You guys have a beautiful family!!!!! By the way, when is Amber's shower?
Hi Kacie,
My shower is on 08/05...I can't wait!! When is yours?? I know that the bride isn't suppose to buy stuff for the shower but if you can get to a target in your area you should...they had such great stuff for the shower. Just don't tell your BM's or MOH....I got yelled at...LOL!!

I know I posted these on the Mother's Day thread, but I want to have them in our wedding journal too. Please indulge me. ;)
Amber's Wedding Flip Flops: Here is a picture of Amber's new wedding flip flops. They are so cute, they have dangly crystals all around the straps. Aren't they adorable?!?!?
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/Karen602/jangles1.jpg
Karen's Wedding Flip Flops: I bought a pair of Candies black sequin flip flops to match my dress at the reception. I didn't notice this at the store, but they have one of those gradual color changes of the sequins on the straps. It starts out silver, then goes to dark gray, then to black. You can see this pretty good in the picture. I love them!! Don't they look great?

I don't have a shower planned yet. I was thinking probably in October because the wedding is in December and in November and December people have so much going on in their lives. We do have a Target in our area and I love them!

Ok, we have pictures of the actual memorial candle that we are using at the wedding to honor those who will be with us in spirit but not in body. We didn't want to have more than one candle, because we thought it might get a bit ridiculous having all these memorial candles in there. We didn't want to bum anybody out either, the wedding is a happy, joyous time but we did want to honor those who couldn't be there. So here is the candle, and it says...
In Loving Memory of
Juanita Curry
Ross Malloy II
Mikaila Underwood
who are present in our hearts.
Juanita Curry: Jason's mother
Ross Malloy II: Amber's grandfather (my father)
Mikaila Underwood: Amber's cousin (my niece)

Thank you for your comment! The ones that I am wearing are from Crescent Jewelers 14K white gold and diamonds it is called an enhancer, I guess because it is suppose to enhance my e-ring. Jason's is 14K white gold too, we got that at Crescent for $278...which I was excited about because it was a really good price considering I was expecting to pay $500.

Amber- in your state does the marriage license expire? I wish I could have gotten mine a while ago to get it over with but they expire in 30 days if you don't get married.
How cool... We are getting married in (OMG!) 23 days and we have to go sometime soon because we couldn't get it any sooner than 30 days... =(
The last 3 months seems like a long time, but it goes by so fast. I remember when I had 4 months left and I was thinking, "It's so long from now.." Here I am down to 23 days and all I can think is, "**** where did all that time go to!"

Don't worry, Angel we are sending them out a bit early. We are not inviting a lot of people and at our venue we have a minimum number of people that must attend, so if we have a lot of people that can't make it we want to make sure we have enough time to invite more people. Exactly!! Ours is going to be around 50-60 ppl, so we have to hit a minimum food and beverage of $3500 so at $67.00 dollars a head it shouldn't be too hard to hit the minimum but just in case I want to be prepared. Oh an dif you need two extra people my mom and I would be there in a flash....LOL!

I can't wait for Amber's wedding. I think this wedding will be one of the prettiest weddings. All of your stuff is so nice. I just can't wait. (A little bit of me not being able to wait until her's is selfish because when her wedding is here, that means it's only 3 months until mine!)

We ordered the following gifts yesterday, so we should get each one by June 9th.
Here is the picture of the BM Shoes. Needless to say, the BM's are really spoiled because, besides the shoes, we are also getting them BM jewelry and also they are getting their hair and makeup done on the day of the wedding.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/Karen602/newshoes.jpg
We also ordered the RB Train Bank with Malachi's name engraved on top.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/Karen602/rbgift.jpg
Finally, we ordered the FG jewelry set which comes in a white satin bag with Cambrea's name embroidered on it.

On Thursday you will start to get your first RSVPs. We got 8 on the first day. It was the coolest thing ever. You realize at that point it is 100% real and there is no turning back. I will warn you though, at first you will probably get a lot of no responses but don't get discouraged. I found that the people who were 100% sure tey weren't going to be able to make it were the ones who got back to us first.

Who wouldn't want to come to your wedding! It is going to be fabulous!
How early did you start collecting addresses? And out of curiosity, how long do you think it took you to address them all?
Amber818
06-06-2006, 12:35 AM
Kacie,
I first started getting addresses in March. I knew I wanted to get that out of the way. It was actually pretty easy for me most of it was done through email on my side. Jason, on the other hand, is a BIG procrastinator. I actually had to sit him down and make him call every single person he wanted to invite to get their addresses...MEN! My mom and MOH addressed the invites and it probably took them about 2 hours to do them all...my mom was very "by the book" with addressing the envelopes and all that jazz! My mom and I stuffed them and that took about an hour as well....we had fun though!

I guess I need to get on the ball and get some addresses. I am sending mine out in October so I have 4 months until I do that and I have 240 guests! I don't have more than about 5 or 6 addresses in my address book!

It is absolutley crazy exciting! It seems like it is all coming together. One thing I am noticing closer and closer it gets more and more people want to be invited...I am like, "who invites themselves to someone's wedding?" JEEZ!! Other than that my mom and I are nuts with excitement.

I think it is funny and sad but I know it is still early on...just makes me chuckle....so I called my MOH and I was like can you send in your RSVP so I can have 2 RSVP's to Jason's 11...LOL...I think I am a little competitive...LOL!!

Don't worry Amber, most people will probably wait until the last minute to send their RSVPs back. Then you will probably have to get on the phone and call the others who did not RSVP. People need to realize how important RSVPs are. Geez.

I had a lady do that right as I was sending my invitations out! I ran into an old friend of my mom's at the mall one day. She ran over to me gushing about seeing our engagement announcement in the paper (6 months before) and how much she was looking forward to our wedding, blah, blah, blah. SHe totally invited herself. So my mom and I decided that with all the people there, 2 more wouldn't matter. We sent an invite to her and her daughter. They RSVP'd yes. She even called about a week beofre the wedding to tell me how excited they were and all that. Then, the wedding day arrived and BOOM!!! Neither one of them shower. I wasted two perfectly good salmon entrees! I was so mad.
As for no one on your side RSVPing, it was like that too when ours started to roll in. Sean's friends and family all got back to us, even my dad's friends and family got back to us. Not a single soul on my mom's side returned their RSVP card or their follow up phone call. By the way, we had to remind almost everyone in our wedding party to send in their cards.

I have that same problem already! Everyone I know wants to be invited. I already have a guest list that has grown to about 260. I am hoping to only have about 200 peeps there. It's hard to tell someone that you are not inviting them.

I didn't want to post this in Katie's journal but I wanted to answer you mom...
When I turned 18, it was legal to drink in Arizona. So I had one of those drunken birthdays then. I'm trying to think what I could do at 21 that I couldn't do at 18, but I don't think there was anything. For Amber, the legal drinking age was 21. I don't know if Amber went out and had a drunken birthday or not. I will have to ask her that.
Katie, you can always celebrate this weekend, just try to stay safe. :)
Oh..well I went out the night before my birthday at midnight...my friends drug me out...they called it my power hour...LOL! Then the next night I went out with a whole group of friends. It was quite the bash. I remember going to one bar where I had to lay on the bar and the bartender poured the shot down my mouth...good times!!! I'm not a big party girl anymore. I think I got it out of my system from the time I was 18 until I was about 22. Most of that had to do with Justin graduating from college and then we moved away from Huntsville. The bar we used to call our second home wasn't 5 minutes away anymore. And to there seemed to be better things for me to do with my time.

Ok, I admit I had my day, but my day is long past. Amber is 24 years old and I am 50, and as far as partying is concerned, I can't keep up with her. Since I am an idiot sometimes, I have tried to.:drunk: But frankly, I don't want to anymore. And Amber knows it.
If I try to keep up, I am so sick the next day that I wish I would die.:buck: And it is so hard for me to recover from it. I don't bounce back like I used to.
I know there are some people who are still partying hard at 50, but I'm not one of them. I'm not in the perfect health, and it makes that kind of life hard for me to enjoy anymore. I know Amber wishes that her Mother wouldn't get old, but the reality is that I am and some things (such as partying) have lost the thrill for me.
That being said, I do want Amber to enjoy her youth and party like a rock star. Only I don't want to actually know about all of it, because worrying about my kids puts even more years on me.

Karen, I'm 27 and can't party worth a **** anymore. After two drinks I am tired not buzzed. Bars are loud and smelly and full of drunk idiots. Anymore I jsut want to go out to a nice dinner, maybe have glass of wine then see a movie, show, ect. And I want my night to wrap up by 11 so I can be at home in bed. You should come and hang out with me.

Definitely, Lacey, I was thinking that same thing in another thread. Lacey eats really well, and now I find out that she doesn't want to party hard anymore. Dinner, wine, and a movie sounds absolutely divine to me. One thing about wrapping it up at 11pm though... could I go out to the car at 10pm, and just wait for you there? My eyes won't stay open past 10pm. lol

Well, Amber & I have just got back from her trial updo, and we love it!! And I have pictures!!! Please let us know what you guys think, I know that will be important to Amber.
The first picture I took was the back when Angela got through with the Amber's curls. The hair ornaments aren't in yet. When we do it for real on Sept. 9, Angela will put the tiara arms under Amber's hair so you won't see it like you can here.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/Karen602/backnotdone.jpg
This is Amber with the front not done yet, but the back is done and the tiara is on. She was telling me not to take her picture because it's not done, but I told her I wanted to document everything for the girls at Onewed. I'm always thinking about you guys!! LOL!! That is Angela, our hairdresser, in the white shirt.

No, just the bride got one done for free. I would've had to pay for mine, and I didn't want to do that. But I looked at pictures for mine and I am really getting a good idea of what I want, and when I find a really good picture that illustrates the perfect updo for me, I will post it. Amber818 agrees: It is funny how you can say things 100 times, but when you actually write them down they do not make any sense...LOL!!
That is exactly how it felt when I was writing it down. I have said it so many times. Ok, I looked it up and this is what I found...
"The phrase dates to 1821. The sheet is a reference to a rope on a sailboat. To have a sheet loose in the wind is bad seamanship, to have three loose means you are not capable of controlling the boat. Occasionally you will see one sheet to the wind meaning half-drunk."

I found some more literal meanings of sayings and expressions that are kind of cool.
bless you/god bless you - customary expression said to someone after sneezing - the main origin is that sneezing was believed in medieval times to be associated with vulnerability to evil, notably that sneezing expelled a person's soul, thus enabling the devil to steal the soul or to enter the body and take possession of it.
bite the bullet - do or decide to do something very difficult - before the development of anesthetics, wounded soldiers would be given a bullet to bite while being operated on, so as not to scream with pain.
cake walk, piece of cake/takes the cake - easy task/wins (the prize) - from the tradition of giving cakes as prizes in rural competitions. The tradition in USA slavery states when slaves or free descendents would walk in a procession in pairs around a cake at a social gathering or party, the most graceful pair being awarded the cake as a prize.
caught red-handed - caught in the act of doing something wrong, or immediately afterwards with evidence showing, so that denial is pointless - the expression 'caught red-handed' has kept a consistent meaning for well over a hundred years. It's based simply on the metaphor of a murderer being caught with blood still on their hands.
close but no cigar - narrowly failing to get something right or win - from early USA slot machines which used to give a cigar as a prize.
cold turkey - withdrawal effects from abruptly ending a dependency such as drugs or alcohol - the expression seems to have been first used in this sense in the 1950's and appeared in the dictionary of American slang in 1960. The cold turkey expression is a metaphor for the cold sweat condition, and particularly the effect on the sufferer's skin, experienced during dependency withdrawal. (during narcotic drug withdrawal, the skin of the patient becomes sweaty, pale and nodular - like the skin of a plucked turkey.)
condom - birth control sheath - a scientific approach to birth control is not a recent practice; Latin writer Pliny the Elder advocated the use of sticky cedar gum as early as the 1st century, and the Romans were using sheaths of various descriptions before then. The condom however takes its name from the Earl of Condom, personal physician to Charles II, who recommended its use to the king as a precaution against syphilis in the second half of the 17th century.
cried all the way to the bank - financially successful despite apparent problems - a frequent quote by the pianist entertainer Liberace from 1950's and 60's, in response to questions about hostility he experienced from critics.
good-bye - originally a contraction of 'God be with ye (you)'; 'God' developed into 'good', in the same style as good day, good evening, etc.; 'good be with ye' would have meant 'may you fare well'.
hang out - to frequent or be found at - sounds like a recent expression but it's 1830's or earlier, originally meant 'where one lives and works' from the custom of hanging a sign of occupation or trade outside a shop or business, as pubs still do.
go to hell in a hand-basket - evolved from the metaphors of a person's decapitated head being in a (small) hand-basket, which fits the association with beheading and the guillotine, suggesting that the victim has been bad in some way and therefore loses their head and deserves to go to hell.
home sweet home - sentimental expression of home - from American John Howard Payne's words for the 1823 opera, The Maid of Milan, the song's word's are ''Be it never so humble, there's no place like home'.
honeymoon - holiday after marriage - derived from the practice of the ancient Teutons, Germanic people of the 2nd century BC, who drank 'hydromel' (honey wine) for a 'moon' (thirty days) after marriage. Supposedly Attila the Hun drank so much hydromel at his wedding feast that he died.
kill with kindness - from the story of how Draco met his death, supposedly by being smothered and suffocated by caps and cloaks thrown onto him at the theatre of Aegina, from spectators showing their appreciation of him, 590 BC.
kiss it better - the custom of kissing someone where injured - originates from the practice of sucking poison from a wound or venomous bite.
waiting for the other shoe to drop - awaiting the inevitable - the expression is mid-to-late 20th century, and based on the metaphor of living in an apartment beneath someone (occupying the floor above) who has a habit of removing their shoes or boots before getting into bed, while sitting on the edge of the bed, dropping each shoe or boot with a thud onto the floor, disturbing the occupant(s) in the room below. The analogy is typically embroidered for extra effect by the the fact that the person dropping the boots goes to bed late, or returns from shift-work in the early hours, thereby creating maximum upset to the victims below.
sour grapes - when someone is critical of something unobtainable - from Aesop's fable about the fox who tried unsuccessfully to reach some grapes, and upon giving up says they were sour anyway.

She said there was lots of stuff to choose from but she wanted that for me...awe...so I am not sure if my venue will allow an outside chocolate fountain I will have to ask my wedding coordinator. If they will not allow it we will use the chocolate fountain my MOH won at my bridal shower. My venue had a chocolate fountain. But they wanted 10 per person for it. So, I shopped around and found one for $500 total. I called my venue and told them that they had two choices, they could match the price or allow me to bring in an outside contractor. (The key is that I didn't ask, I told.) What I didn't tell them was that the outside contractor's chocolate sucked. Well, the venue called me back the next day saying thatt they were willing to match the price, no questions asked. So I actually got superb chocolate and dipping items. I suggest you call the venue, tell them that you won a chocolate fountain at a bridal show and either they can allow that company to come in and set up or match their price (free). They will let you bring it in because they won't want to lose the money just in the set up and dipping items let alone the chocolate.

I just now seen this page so I wanted to put my 2 cents in! :)
In my opinion, I doubt anyone will forget to take anything home! At my wedding and a couple of others I was in, people were taking EVERYTHING and anything! and if someone left their stuff on the table for a min. someone took it!!! It's ok to want favors and remembrances but **** people!!! LOL!
N e ways It looks like your wedding will be great Amber! You and your mom have good taste.
We have these favors which are clear plastic miniature oriental take out containers that we are going to fill with dark and light purple M&M's, which will be printed with Jason & Amber on one side and Sept 9, 2006 on the other. They cost a fortune but they are so worth it. We have a lavender bow with these tags which will say "Thank You!" We already have them and they are adorable!
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/Karen602/favors.jpghttp://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/Karen602/Favorhangtags.jpg
And we will have these placecards with the guest names and table number ready for pick up when our guests arrive. They just have to find their tables. We hope they remember to take these frames and their favors home. I have a feeling that some people will forget. I can just see it now, us having to eat tons of purple M&M's and trying to find miniature pictures to put in all our mini frames. Oh well....

Amber's MOH won it in a contest, but we didn't think our country club would let us have it. Amber was going to ask Anna, the wedding coordinator, if it was ok. But after Amber read Lacey's post about not asking her, but telling her we are going to use it, that's exactly what Amber did. She wrote Anna that she won a chocolate fountain, and we just needed to know how we go about setting it up. Anna wrote back, that as long as they provided everything, she saw no problem with it. Well, they provide everything and we are having it!! How cool is that? Thank you to Lacey for that one, and to Amber's wonderful MOH, Shannon!:D

My Mother fixed the tear in Amber's dress, so now, on Tuesday 7/4/06, we're going to drop it off at Group USA so that they can fix any flaws that we reported when we bought the dress. Such as beading coming off or already off, embroidery coming loose, and stuff like that. Then next month, we will drop it off to be cleaned and pressed. Then the dress will be ready to go for Amber's wedding. :)

http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/13/13_1_104v.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm824YYUS)Oh yeah, Lacey, not only am I going, but my sister Jody is going as well. Now that's a double-edged sword, because Jody doesn't drink. So she will be able to remember the night, where us "rock stars" probably won't remember it as well. So, if this bachelorette party goes off as planned, we will have Jody to recall all the little details for us! Sometimes that's not such a good thing. Maybe we need to rethink that one. ;) This is going to be one fun night out with the girls!!!

As someone who has been in that situation many, many, many more times than she cares to recount; it is usually best to not have a memory of it. Sometimes it is better not to know. Also, photographic evidence of behavior is great if you are prosecuting attorney but not a party guest.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/Karen602/chocfountain.jpgIt's official!! We are having a chocolate fountain at Amber's wedding.
I went to their website, and these are the Dippers! Yum!
Strawberries*
Bananas*
Marshmellows
Maraschino Cherries
Brownies
Rice Krispy Treats
Cream Puffs
Graham Cracker Sticks
Cookie Sticks
Pound Cake
Pretzels
Caramels
And More
*If seasonally available
Lacey, I know you didn't get to partake of this as much as you had wanted to, but do you remember which were the most popular, and which were the most unpopular dippers?

I never even saw my chocolate fountain so I have no idea. I have a picture of it and I can see strawberries, marshmallows, and Oreos on little platters. But that is just the one side. I can't see what was on the front or the other side.

Strawberries are the first thing Amber said she wanted dipped. We haven't decided on the others though. The bachelorette party is 8/26/06 and the bridal shower is 8/5/06. We're really excited about both. Thanks, Kacie!!

I'm not a big chocolate person. Besides I was way too distracted by that martii bar to worry about chocolate. That, and I got tired of hearing, DO YOU WANT CHOCOLATE ON THAT DRESS!!?? Like next I was going to be digging the dress out to wear again or something?

This is what I want my hair to look like for Amber's wedding. I sent it to our hairdresser, and she said to just come with clean, straight hair, and she will do it. It is a french braid, with curls on top, and a few ringlets falling down too. Also, I will scatter sparklies in it too. I love it!!

Ok, today we were supposed to take Amber's dress in to be finished. Which means that they are going to fix any beads that are falling off or loose, fix any embroidery that is loose, any tears, and that sort of thing. Then we were supposed to pick it up in 2 weeks, and then drop it back off 2 weeks before the wedding to be steam cleaned and pressed. Well, we took it into Group USA and they said that they will go ahead and keep it for a month, so that they can finish it and clean it all together. So, we will pick it up on August 4th, and it will be ready to go for Amber's wedding on September 9th!! :D
Isn't that just too exciting?!?!?! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_30_104.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm824YYUS)

The picture I took to my baker for the cake I wanted was done in fondant. I just told her I didn't want fondant, to use buttercream. It wasn't an issue. The only difference will be how rounded the edges look. They won't be as smooth and rounded without the fondant. My suggestion would be to maybe scatter some rose petals around the edges to "hide" that.

Thank you for all of your input. We will have to get with the baker and see what she can do.
Lacey-thank you again...you are so great. I am quite fond of the rounded edges I think it makes the cake "soft" looking. If that makes any sense. It seems I am in quite the pickle....
