We ladies are the prettiest when we try the least. Now I am not discouraging fashion, make-up, or shaving your arm pits. But consider that your FH fell in love with you as a person and not with over the top hair, make-up, and dress, otherwise he would have chosen someone like Dolly Pardon:D

Just an idea but you may consider doing your own hair in a style that you normally wear.

We will probably get married on the ocean and I want to have my wavy hair do just that, wave. Let it free and it should add to some fantastic natural looking pictures.

Also great make-up tips on line for free and you can browse the magazines at the store for free also for tips.

Smart lady! :D I am getting my hair done.. But my veil would probably fling right out if i didn't.. XD And my grandma would stab me, lol. However.. i refuse to pay for makeup.. What a rip!

I totally agree! I usually wear my hair down (at least, when I'm out in publi - at home it's in a ponytail) and I straighten it to get the frizz out.

Wedding hairdo: down, straightened, only a little pulled back with a barrette to make it a little nicer, and help my veil stay put.

I'll be made up and styled but I certainly won't pay for it. I do my makeup everyday and know how to do my hair (especially because it's naturally curly and I don't want one glob of mousse touching it!) so it'll be all me.

The only thing i'm doing is dying my hair Fire Engine Red. And adding a bit of body with a few waves. It grew back fine when i lost it all Ten Years ago through stress.

FH met me when i had bright Red hair so i'm going to go back to it for the Wedding. He loves me no matter what my hair colour is. I've been Grey since i was 22 and he's seen me with a full head of Grey when i cut all the colour out to let it rest. (It's now a sort of Brownish / Auburn colour at the moment)

But my friend and Wedding Witness is a hairdresser so i'm going to let her work her magic.

I don't really think brides need to go to the extreme with hair and makeup to the point where they don't look like themselves. But I don't see anything wrong with doing a little more than you usually do to make yourself feel extra pretty on your special day :grinhappy:

I got my hair done (even though I didn't really like it), but did my own makeup.

Yeah, I got my hair done in a fancier updo style than my usual ponytail. I loved the style, but the lady used far too much hairspray and it didn't feel as much like me as I wanted. I got my makeup done too though. I've never been good and doing my hair or makeup so it was kinda necessary for me if I wanted to look like a pretty bride! :grinhappy:

I got my hair, my nails and my make up done but that was more of a "treat" for me :) I rarely pamper myself (which includes buying myself clothing LOL). All that said, I didn't over-do the "do" ... I still looked like me but I felt great wonderful!

:bbeek: I don't wear a 30 pound, 6' diameter dress on a daily basis, so my hair and makeup had to fit the occasion.

And here's me thinking you went grocery shopping in it every week.

Good point though.

Ya'll are too funny!

I don't usually do much with my hair, I have a body wave now for variety b/c its naturally stick straight. I'm undecided as of yet if I will just do my hair at home...( I dont like me with professionally done hair) probably loosely curled and halfway pulled up so my veil (birdcage) will have something to sit on.
My little sis is in lots of theatre & plays and is awesome with hair & makeup so I think we'll go over some trial runs once I get my veil and see what works for me:)

Wow that sounds like my Renaissance dress that I wear at the Renaissance Fair.

All I meant about the hair is that I have seen too many brides do really silly hair-dos. Big dresses shouldn't necessarily dictate big hair. Most women I think look most beautiful when their hair looks natural and not over-done. That was my only point.

Having said that, really 6' diameter dress?

I agree that you want to look like yourself when you get married, but there I also think that there are a lot of great salons out there that can make you look like you, but make you look the best that you can on your day. Melissa is right, I am not going to wear this dress to the pool or to work, so I think that I can venture out of my normal pony tail!

I will be having my hair done. It won't be "big hair" but it will be fixed like I normally wouldn't/coudn't. My hair is completely straight and very fine...I normally just throw it back in a ponytail, but since my dress is pretty fancy, I feel like plain, boring hair wouldn't look right. I will also have my make-up done by my sisters friend. My make-up will be very natural looking, so, hopefully I won't be too overdone.

This is what I am doing too. I NEVER wear make up, so I feel weird when I have it on!

My hair is flat, boring and lifeless so I am having that done (simple up do and the veil) but o/w it's all me.:D

Thats exactly how I am! But, for the wedding, I am probably going to go the updo route but very loose and curly. FH LOVES when I do different stuff with my hair. And quite honestly, the day of the wedding, I am going to be so stressed out, my hair probably won't turn out if I did it myself!! My makeup will be done by me, because I am so picky!

Natural hair is the way I'm going. It never goes out of style! I want to be able to show my kids my wedding photos and have them recognize me (and not make fun of whatever style the makeover ladies are pushing this year!)

That dress was strapless and so heavy that I had bruises on my hips after wearing it all day!

Hah, I totally thought you were exaggerating with sarcasm to get the point across. By the way, very pretty dress. :)

Hey at least your wedding day gives you some great exercise. Plus I can definitely relate-my Renaissance costume for the fair weighs roughly 40 pounds and is all velvet and beaded, but luckily I have straps on my bodice-so no bruises.

Thus wedding attire will probably be a white cocktail dress.

Honestly, I want my hair all done up for my wedding. To me, it's not so much about looking good for FH as it is for my once in a lifetime event.

To each their own. My post was not meant to be taken to literally. I am merely saying that some brides look really fake and personally I think that less is more. But again, to each their own.
