I read about this ebay listing this morning. This couple is trying to make extra money for their wedding by auctioning off a spot in their wedding party: http://cgi.ebay.com/BE-A-BRIDESMAID-IN-MY-WEDDING_W0QQitemZ300234889876QQihZ020QQcategoryZ14 68QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

That is pretty funny ... I wonder if these bidders are really wanting to be a part of her wedding or just feel sorry for her.
I sure wouldn't bid on something like this; there are lots of people that can't really afford a big fancy wedding ... and aside from the fact that I don't care to ever be a BM for someone I know, let alone a stranger, there are better causes I can think to donate too :p
But hey, crazy things and controversy get attention so more power to her and the bidders/winner; I wish her the best ;)
Maybe I should put up an ebay auction for a weekend vacation at my house to help pay my bills or something :winktongue:

I heard about this on the radio last night and the highest bid was only $250.00 at that time. Wow, just look at it now!

Um, I don't get it. Why would I pay $4000 to be in someone's wedding?! And fly myself there!!

Someone is messing with it, it was just over 50 mil!!!
They must have pulled those because it is back to the 4450!

Must be.
The radio host said last night that the bride planned to pay for the dress and the shoes from sale of the ebay listing and make a few bucks too. LOL His comment was that with a bid of $250 - that bridesmaid isn't going to be dressed very nicely.

Holy ****! $5,100!?! It's unbelievable...kudos the engaged couple tho...very creative.
I've been a bridesmaid 4 times now and I love my friends and all but...there is just no way I would PAY to be in a strangers wedding....unreal.

Thats.. Weird. o.o; Why would you want someone you didn't know in wedding pictures, etc... To me it sounds like shes just saying 'give me money, i want a big @$$ nice wedding!' lol

I wonder how many more people will do this now!
I would take some pics without him/her too!
You know she is going to get a ton of money, maybe even shows will contact them!

If you have been a bridesmaid 4 times then like me, you should be at the point where your friends will have to pay YOU to be a bridesmaid again LOL
To my next friend that asks I will say - "I love you my very dear friend but no thanks. I would rather give you a big fat cheque than outlay all the extra $$$$$$$$$$$$ that being a bridesmaid means.

Now this story made it to Good Morning America! The winning bid was........
$5,700 from a guy named Nick! A guy? Well turns out he works for Snapple/Dr. Pepper and they've decided to donate $10,000!!!!
Good grief now why didn't one of us think of this?!?!?
He said they're gonna run a contest to see who wins the actual BM's position!
Shaking my head,

That's insane! As much as I don't think I would like to have some stranger in my wedding party, I think for $10k I wouldn't mind so much!

This is going to be popping up all over the place now....

Yeah, I saw this on my baby name forum. They're all pretty negative on the idea and think it's really tacky. Supposedly this couple has become minor celebrities and vendors around the country are donating things for the wedding. I think it's horribly tacky.

Good god!
There are tons of deserving brides out there... just because she decided to post it on e-bay, she gets all the cash?
That just doesn't seem fair to me. :irked:

I'm just upset that my daughter didn't think of it first! ha ha (just kidding) She's wayyyyyyyyyy to shy to have all this media attention on her and her 'special day'!
I really was just kidding,

Weird. I wonder if these people had lots of close friends wanting to be in the wedding or if they're like socialites or something.

Did you see that there at least 5 new listings on Ebay for the same thing?? I'd be amazed if those auctions went anywhere close to the first one. On Ebay you have to be ORIGINAL... only the first chick was original. :snide:

Maybe I should put up there to get people to help me pay my bills. lol If every one gave me $1 I could get out of debt. The things people come up with these days. IF I got $10,000 I would not spend it on a wedding. One day? I would get out of debt and get things we need so bad lol. Like fix the vehicles and what not. Some people I swear. I say greedy.

psh I wish I would have thought of that! Except there is no way I would have spent $10,000 on my wedding. Maybe she can use some of it for their honeymoon? That is what I would have done. Though now I would LOVE to put it towards Matt and I's 100g+ student loans! I should action off the opportunity to pay off our student loans... and in return they can receive Christmas cards from me for life :)

Have you looked into certain loan forgiveness programs. Also you can write the interest off on your taxes, unless you make a ton of money!

I may do a search, but usually those are if you are teaching in a low-income or high risk area. Granted I will be working for a school, a boarding school academy though. But these students come from pretty wealthy backgrounds (it costs $29,500 a year for boarding students) Though a very high % of them are international students, maybe they have something for that? Sadly though most of my husband and I's student loans are private loans from Sallie Mae because we didn't qualify for very many federal loans.
haha yeah we for sure wouldn't be denied for making too much money... I work at an academy and my husband is a youth pastor :) Let's just say that many people make more off of one income than ours combined :)
