I see you are from Boston - I am too. The best "regional" advice I can give you to save money is not to go through a hotel. Go to a place that you can bring in your own cater. Caters are much cheaper in the "per person" price then most hotels and hotel chains are. Also bargain with people - Don't be afraid to wheel and deal because if you feel like something is to much - tell them your price and usually you and then vendor can find a happy medium. Good luck, and stick around because the ladies on here are so helpful with tons of good ideas.

Thanks everyone!
I agree that the hotels in the area seem to be the most expensive so we are staying clear of them...I almost died when one hotel required a 20k MINIMUM for food and beverage. OMG!!!
I am not really that crafty but I might want to take on the challenge of DIY invites!

DIY is a big tip. Dont bother with DIY Cater its alot of work and seen it flop and alot of brides seem to change their minds. Firehall banquet rooms can be a tipper. not all firehalls do it or have one but its worth a shot. make your own favors and your own centerpieces. Pat catans and such or world of values and dollar tree is great for DIY. I just got a set of 6 champagne glasses in a vase for $18 now that is a deal! You usually only get 2 glasses for $45
