Hi...my name is Jennifer and I have a quick question to ask. I bought a unity candle set that I plan to have engraved but don't know which saying to put on it.
On this day, we become one. June 4, 2005
OR
On this day, we became one. June 4, 2005
With became it sounds like past tense to me as if we have already done it before the actual wedding day. Please let me know what you think! Thanks !

On this date, "We Become One". You are lighting the candle together for the first time to show unity of both you and your FI and your families. So therefore you are becoming one.
Hope this helps

I agree that "We Become One" is better. You haven't done it yet, so "became" doesn't apply. Also, you are celebrating what you are doing, not what has already been done.

you could also put:
on this day we shall become one

If I were you, I'd go with "We Become One" - this is your first act as a married couple when you light the candle.

i think "on this day we become one" sounds better. its what you are doing, not what you already did. i think "became" makes it sound like you're already married and celebrating an anniversary.
