So, I decided to do a kissing ball instead of a bakset and when I went to Joann's they had them pre-made, but no in my color, so I am doing one myself...Here it is so far:

They are sometimes carried by the FG or even the BMs. They are a round ball of flowers usually with a ribbon for a handle! They date back to the victorian era~ Most often you can see them around Christmas times.
Unfortunately I couldn't find the exact explanantion for them, but I did find the above for a good example!!
BTW Lizabeth, it looks good, but have you thought of putting the flowers closer together or even over lapping a little?? I can't wait to see the finished product!

They actually are overlapping. The picture doesn't show it very well, but the places that look white are actually my yellow flowers.

That is a really pretty idea, but I think for me I am going to stick to the FG baskets. I am making them myself.

I am making my flower girl baskets myself too because the ones I've seen are really expensive!

Sometimes they are called pomanders. I really like them. I have my 2 flower girls carrying ones made out of white and pink roses and sweet peas. Yours looks great Elizabeth.

That explains why our friend from Nottingham had no clue what I was saying when I told him we were doing a kissing ball!

Yeah I was like 'What is a kissing ball?' I have allways heard them referred to as pomanders ... though when I first heard of them I thought people were saying 'palm hander' ;) it made since to me at the time.
I like them, they are pretty ... yours looks like it is coming along nicely.

My kissing ball is done - most of the way. I am still trying to decide whether to put yellow ribbon on it or not, but here it is:

That looks great! I really like it with the purple ribbon, but I could see where a yellow satin would look nice too! Great work!

How did you make the pomander?I think that would be a good idea for my wedding as to not have petals all over the floor.I don't want to make a lot of work for the janitorial ministry at the church.Plus it really is pretty!

They both look great! I assume you made the tossing bouquet with silk flowers. They are really nice looking. I had to look close to see if they were real.

Here are some easy directions that I found; (Tha Mrs);
Materials Needed
2 stems of silk flowers with six roses on each ($1 per stem)
2” Styrofoam ball (pack of four for $1)
Glue sticks (pack of 20 for $1)
¼” ribbon ($1 for a 20 yard spool)
Scissors
Glue gun
1. Remove flower heads from the stems.
2. Stick flower heads in the ball, evenly spaced to cover the entire ball, press down a bit on each to leave a small indent in the foam. This is your spacing and gluing guide.
3. After dry fitting the flowers put a dab of hot glue in each hole, and then press in the flower, hold it for a second or two till the glue sets up. Do this one flower at a time till the ball is covered.
4. Cut a 24” long piece of ribbon and form a loop and tie with a bow.
5. Attach the ribbon to the ball by parting the flowers and using a dab of hot glue, hold the ribbon down while it sets up

Hope this helps! This may be much easier for flower girls, then having petals everywhere!
