So, I wasn't going to start a journal until the engagement was official, but I guess I'm having a hard time being patient. :bblol:
He picked up my engagement ring on Friday, June 13th and now I'm just waiting for the official proposal! I have no idea how/when he will do it. I know he wants to talk to my dad ahead of time...but my parents are on vacation right now, and won't be back until Monday!
A little about us...
I'm 25, he's 31. We are both full-time students (I'm getting my special education teaching license, he is studying accounting and hopes to eventually work as a CPA). We live in beautiful Colorado with our three crazy cats.
We love sci-fi (hence the nerd thing :bblol: ), gardening, hiking, and being involved in our church.
I'll post our "how we met" story next!
Copied from my blog:
(warning..I LOVE to write. Sorry if I get a little long-winded sometimes!)
September 2, 2005. A few months before that day, I decided to put up a profile on an internet dating site. I never imagined that would be the place I’d find the love of my life. I started the profile to meet some new people since I was moving back to my hometown. I was also just out of a long, difficult relationship and didn’t really think I wanted anything serious, but I won’t deny that I was open to the possibility. In my dating profile, I mentioned how I desired meaningful conversation and quality companionship. Unfortunately, most of the guys I was finding on the website were only interested in my bra size or one-night stands. But on that fateful September evening, all of that changed.
I often say that Kelley “had me at hello.” Yeah, very Jerry Maguire. It really is true, though. The dating site had an instant message feature; Kelley sent me a message, and asked if I was up for that “meaningful conversation” I was so looking for. He caught (and held) my attention immediately. We talked for quite awhile that first night, and made plans to talk over Yahoo Messenger the very next day. I thought our first conversation was great, but I wasn’t getting my hopes up that I’d actually talk to him again. To my surprise, he sent me an instant message the next day, just as he promised.
We had another long conversation that night, and began to discuss meeting in person. I declined a dinner invitation for that evening, but we talked about meeting up the next day, Sunday. Even though we were getting along great, I was a little hesitant to meet him. I’d met several other guys from the website prior to Kelley, but I was always disappointed by the end of the date. I really enjoyed Kelley, but was worried it was too good to be true. When Sunday rolled around, we talked again on instant messenger. Kelley was really interested in meeting, and I couldn’t deny that I was, too…on one condition. I had to hear his voice. I had learned from previous on-line dating encounters that I could tell a lot about a guy just by listening to him talk.
I wanted to make sure I had complete privacy when we talked, so I decided to leave my parents’ house and go for a drive. I planned on getting some coffee and stopping at Barnes & Noble to do some browsing. As soon as I left the house, I dialed his number. I was pleasantly surprised. He sounded very genuine and sincere. I automatically felt comfortable with him. Instead of pulling off the highway at the exit for Barnes & Noble, I kept driving…towards Kelley’s neighborhood. I wasn’t looking particularly fashionable at that moment; no make-up, wearing jeans and a t-shirt. But I figured there was no time like the present. And I figured if he didn’t like me for who I was at that moment (my true self, really), he probably wasn’t the guy for me, anyway. As soon as I made up my mind to see him, I told him I was on my way over to his house! I remember him telling me he needed to change his clothes and put on some cologne. We kept talking, and he gave me directions as I approached his house. We didn’t hang up the phone until I pulled into his driveway.
When I first saw him, I immediately noticed his eyes; a steely, crisp blue like none I’d ever seen before. I remember thinking he wasn’t as tall as I had envisioned (but I’m almost six-foot tall myself, so I guess it’s all relative). He invited me to sit on his couch, while he sat in a separate chair. He was very pleasant to talk to. He eventually gave me a tour of his home (including his amazing garden), and we spent the rest of our time together talking outside on the porch. It was a breezy, late-summer night. Eventually my mom called, wondering when I was planning on being home. It was starting to get late, so I decided to end our evening together. We both genuinely enjoyed each other’s company, and we decided we wanted to get together again.
As I pulled out of his driveway that night, I remember seeing him standing in the driveway, hands in his pockets. He lifted a hand to wave at me, and I remember the soft look in his eyes. Even though the night sky was dark, looking at him struck me with a sense of longing. He looked after me as I pulled away with a sense of sincerity I had never encountered before.
As I drove home and thought about our time together, I wondered what would become of us. At that moment, I had no idea what was in store…but I was excited to find out. For the first time in a long while, I was looking forward to a second date. I was looking forward to whatever romance was coming my way.
A few details...
The Date:
We don't have anything specific picked out yet, but I'm pretty sure we are set on a Friday evening wedding.
Our first choice is September 2009. Ideally, it would be 9/4 since that'll be the 4th anniversary of the day we first met in person. The only downside to this is that it falls on the holiday weekend. The other option we are considering is spring 2010.
The Location:
We know for sure we will get married at the church we currently attend together. This location has a lot of meaning to us, and we can't imagine having it anywhere else. We'll most likely be having a traditional, full Catholic Mass, although only a few of our family/friends are Catholic. This may be subject to change (we may have the option to do a shorter service, which would probably be more comfortable for our guests), but I know the traditional ceremony is what FH is really wanting.
A few pictures of our church:

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u82/snu005/DSCF0258.jpg
The Reception:
I'm pretty sure we've picked our venue! Once the engagement is official, and we have a better idea of WHEN, I'll post the information.
The Colors:
I'm pretty sure I've decided on lime green and black, but I reserve the right to change my mind. :bblol:
Right now I'm thinking of bride's maids in black dresses (of their choosing) and either green roses or green orchids, with white roses or calla lilies.

I love the story of how you met. I've dated quite a few guys I've met online as well, so I know how it is to be wary!
Your church is so cute! I can't wait to hear more.
Hi Jessica! I never thought I'd meet my future husband on-line! There were definitely a lot of frogs out there!
A couple friend of ours renewed their vows at our church last October. I can't remember all the details, but they gave us some general information about the fees for the ceremony.
I *think* they told us it was $300 to use the church. This fee includes a day-of planner and pianist (which happens to be the same person), and she will also make our wedding programs at no extra cost.
If we want a soloist or other musician, there is an extra fee, but I can't remember now how much it is...I think maybe it was $200 at the most.
We pretty much have our ceremony readings/vows picked out. I'll post those next!

Yay, visitors! Hey girls! :grinhappy:
We just love our little church, too. We've recently taken on some of the gardening/yard work over there....it was in desperate need of some TLC. It's going to be so special having our wedding there!
I was thinking at work today that I should post some pictures!!
Coming right up!!
For some reason I don't have many pictures of us together on my computer. I know my parents have some, and I think Kel has some on his computer, so I'll have to check for more.
But anyway, here are a few of us individually, and one of us together.
Me (Erica, by the way...don't think I've mentioned that yet lol )

I love the story! Great pics and your church is just so cute! Cant waite to read more and see more pics!
So, I went by Hobby Lobby today while I was out. I looked at some paper to make my own invites. Before today, I wasn't sure either way about DIY. But since we are having a fairly small wedding (60-75 max) I know I can get a better deal by making my own.
I plan on doing a pocket fold style, since we will have quite a few OOT guests.
Of course the colors would be green and black, either like this (with black pocketfolds)
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u82/snu005/Wedding/invites/skyfox2.jpg
Or maybe more like this, if I can find the right color of pockets
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u82/snu005/Wedding/invites/mavora2.jpg
(If I decide to order my invites, I'm pretty sure I'll use either of these sellers on Etsy)
And I was thinking I'd add a little design either with a rubber stamp, or maybe I can find a graphic somewhere.
Two stamp ideas:

Love the invites - I like the bottom style best :)
I agree, I found a "citron green" pocket that I think will work perfectly...I'll probably order a sample sometime soon.

We truely do have some things in common. I can totally relate to the waiting game!! I'm really trying to be patient, but the closer to Andrew's brother's wedding the worse my impatients is getting.
I love the fact that the two of you go to church together. Andrew and I do too. It is one of my favorite things to do together in a week. I think that if the two of you want a full length mass to do it. You only do it once and it's your wedding day...not anyone elses.
I really like the colors you have picked. I can't wait to see more of your ideas.
I can't wait to hear how he proposes as well!!!
I agree...going to church together is such a special time! I love that we've made some "couple friends" at church and it is so great being able to share our faith together. I'm sure we'll end up doing a full mass. You are right, it's about us on our wedding day, no one else. I know it will be a great moment for us.
We went to Party City yesterday to get a 'gag gift' for one of our priests who is leaving (there is this running joke going about Superman :bblol: ) so we found a Superman hat and a card.
But while we were there, we also checked out the wedding isle. They have some great favor boxes, toasting glasses, etc! As we were walking around, FH mentioned that he also likes the idea of teal and black (or maybe brown) so I guess we'll have to decide between teal and green eventually! I really don't mind either way. Our church has quite a bit of blue throughout, so maybe that's a better option for us.
And he also mentioned that he wants at least one Star Trek element to our wedding, so I think we are going to get a custom cake topper. I know there are quite a few sellers on Esty and other places that make them.
Something kind of like this, but we'd both be in the full, geeky uniform :bblol:
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u82/snu005/Wedding/Star-Trek-topper_fs.jpg
But I think I prefer more of the cartoon-y look, like this
(only not Star Wars, of course lol although we are fans of it as well!)

Haha...I guess we do have alot in common. Andy hasn't asked my dad yet either. He told me either tomorrow or Wednesday he is going to ask.
He showed me the ring box today. He is such a tease!!!
Maybe they will propose on the same day!!!!
Just keeping this thing warm :)
still waiting. :bblol:
I had a job interview today, so hopefully that'll work out!! I should know by Tuesday!
FH started a new job at the beginning of this week, so lots of changes for us!
We're talking about moving into a bigger place, too.
Let's see, what else. :bblol:
I'm ready to start the real planning!
I think I've decided for sure what I want to do for the color scheme, and I know how I want to do the invites! I can't wait to start putting everything together, so I can post it all here.
I also found a cake vendor I really like.
I'm starting to wonder if he's waiting for our anniversary to pop the question! (I hope he does it before that, though!) :worm:

Good things come to those who wait!!!!

I GOT THE JOB!!
I don't know many details yet, as they are still contacting my references.
I'll be working in special ed again (I'm still working on my teaching cert, but I've worked in the field before). I'll be working with a little boy who will be in full-day Kindergarten!

YAY!!!! :D I'm so happy to hear about your job!!
Thanks, Neko!! :D
I need to catch up on all of your journals!
Haven't posted in awhile!
Today we're celebrating our 3rd dating anniversary! We technically met on 9/2, but we're taking advantage of the holiday. :)
We're going over to my parents' house later today to have a BBQ with my whole family. Kel is hoping to steal my dad away for awhile to talk to him about his plans to propose! Kel's been trying to catch up with my dad all summer, but between his work/school schedule, and my parents traveling most of the summer, it just hasn't happened. Today seems like the perfect time (but I'm also nervous).
In other news, I've been planning a trip to Florida to visit my grandparents. They're starting to have health problems, etc and need some help with household things. A month or so ago, my dad asked Kel if he'd go along with me to help with some bigger projects (changing blinds, hooking up a new tv, cleaning the garage, doing an oil change, etc) so we are going to book the airfare while we are at my parents' house this afternoon. I'm excited! I haven't been to FL in years!
My new job is going great! :D It's been a challenge, but a good one for sure. Kindergarten is a new world for me...it's been interesting!
Hopefully I'll have more news tonight after the guys talk! :winktongue:

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!! Let us know!!!
I guess I should update this thing a little more often!
We still aren't engaged :bblol: He was finally able to talk to my dad, though, so it could happen anytime! I'm sorta hoping he does it while we are in Florida, but who knows! We've been on quite the roller coaster lately (he got laid-off in October), so I totally understand why he hasn't popped the question yet. We both want it to be perfect, so I don't mind waiting just a little longer!
We have decided that 2010 is our year, probably fall. Sometimes it feels like an eternity away. I'm sure time will fly by and we'll have plenty of time to save money, etc. We have a few dates in mind, I have the colors picked out, as well as a design for the invitations.
We are engaged!!!
He proposed Christmas Eve at sunset while we were in Florida! I already posted a thread about it, but I want to put it here, too!
We just got home from our Christmas vacation in Florida, so I can finally post our engagement story! I spent a lot of time in Florida as a kid, so I was excited to show FH some of my favorite places, which is how the story begins....
Wednesday 12.24.08
We left for Clearwater Beach around noon. It was very amusing for us to be driving to the beach on Christmas Eve. It was 80 degrees outside, so we had the air conditioner cranked up. The grass was still green, and it was strange to see all the snow themed Christmas decorations, with no snow or even a chill in the air! When we got to Clearwater, we started to wander around the beach. The water was a little chilly, but I rolled up my pants and got my feet wet. We walked along the beach and picked up seashells, which is one of my favorite childhood memories of being in Florida. We tried to go to the end of the pier, but they charged an admission fee, and the small gift and tackle shop was closed so we couldn’t go out all the way. We had originally planned on staying at the beach longer, but we decided we wanted to do more exploring. We ended up at St. Pete beach, and by the time we got there (stopping at various places along the way), we decided we wanted to find a place to watch the sunset. We eventually made our way to Pass-a-Grille Beach and decided it was perfect.
We got there about two hours before sunset. We parked the car, got our snacks, and headed out to the water. We walked along the beach and collected more shells. We eventually made it to the pier, which was the perfect place to watch the sunset. We were supposed to be back at my grandparents’ house for Christmas Eve dinner by 6:00. We were an hour and a half away, so I didn’t think we were going to get to stay to watch the full sunset, which was going to happen at 5:37 PM. I suggested to Kelley that we head home by 5:00 so we wouldn’t be too late, but he wasn’t having it. He insisted that we stay for the full sunset. While we were waiting, several groups of people wandered over to the pier, and I could tell Kelley was getting frustrated with them. He kept insisting we be alone at this romantic place. There were a lot of birds to watch in the area, and we even saw some dolphins (which made the day really special, as they are my favorite) As the sun finally began to set (and we were finally the only two people on the pier), I started snapping pictures like crazy. I wanted as many perfect pictures as possible. At 5:45 PM (I know the exact time because of the time stamps on my camera!), I turned around to tell Kelley something, and I saw him down on one knee, with the ring box open! With his eyes locked on me, with the sweetest voice, he asked me to marry him! It was perfect! Of course I said yes and we had a nice hug and a kiss, and once again I began snapping pictures, but this time of my ring with the fading sunset in the background. :)
By this time, our parking meter had run out, but we didn’t care. I began taking more pictures of “our place” and the area around it. I had to document the whole thing. Eventually we headed back to the car, and thankfully we didn’t get a parking ticket. As soon as we started driving, I started texting all of our friends! :bblol: We waited to tell our families until after we told my grandparents. We got back to their house at 7:30 and told them right away! They were both so excited. We also found out that they were engaged on 12.24, so it was really special for all of us!
A few days later, we went back to Pass-a-Grille so I could find some souvenirs and take more pictures. We realized then how lucky we were to have been alone on the pier at sunset! The beach was much more crowded the second time we were there. It really was the perfect proposal on the perfect day!
And some pictures. I took nearly 100 of just the sunset/proposal! Here are a few of my favorites...

Thanks for the congrats!
So yesterday we went and picked out our wedding bands. :) We decided to put them on layaway; we didn't want the store credit option, and we didn't want to pay the full price all at once.
FH picked out his ring back when he first took me shopping for engagement rings (over a year ago), but I had no idea what I wanted. I ended up getting a .50 total carat weight round diamond band. It's thin and small, which is just what I wanted. And it was on sale for $200 off, so can't beat that!
Here are the pics...

Tomorrow we are sharing our engagement news with all of our church friends (we haven't seen them since before Christmas). We're also hoping to talk to our priest tomorrow, but I don't know if we'll catch him. Either way, we need to make an appointment with him so we can ask a few questions, and maybe get our date set! We have a few ideas, one of which is a Sunday, and I'm not sure how he feels about that...
I'm not really sure what else I should be doing right now! :bblol: We have over a year to plan, but I still want to get started! :winktongue:

getting started and gathering ideas is half the fun!
We're planning on having a simple wedding, but of course the budget is still an issue. I think the reception, the honeymoon, and the photographer will be our biggest expenses. I'm planning on doing mostly DIY flowers (at least for decor, I may have someone make the bouquets and bouts), I'll make my own invites, favors, etc.
I have a several reception venue ideas. A few of them are restaurants, so we are thinking about sampling their menus sometime. I have a few ideas for photography that are in our price range. And the honeymoon is the biggest problem I'm having. :bblol: I'd like to at least pick a location soon, so we have time to price airfare, etc.
We're meeting with our priest on Monday, and a potential reception venue on Wednesday!
I can't wait! Hopefully we will have our date set on Monday! :grinhappy: Then I can start the real planning! :ura1:
We set the date!!
Saturday, September 4, 2010!!
1 year, 7 months (and a few days) away!!

We have another appointment with our priest next Monday, since he had an emergency to take care of and had to cut the meeting short.

We met with our priest again today! We got all of the info for our marriage prep courses, but we probably won't start that process until this summer.

Your story is really cute and thats awesome that you also met on POF! I never knew what a great website it would turn out to be. Congrats on getting engaged, it is a beautiful story!
Hi Karlee! I had no idea I'd meet the love of my life on POF!
Well, I want to get started on some DIY projects, but I don't know where to begin! I did buy some silk gerber daisies at Hobby Lobby, so I guess I could start there. I will probably use fresh flowers for the bouquets, but I want to make my own reception decorations.
It's been awhile!
Well, we have our reception venue and caterer picked out. I went to a bridal fair with my mom last weekend, and found a cake vendor I really like. We are also on our way to picking a photographer, which has been our biggest hurdle so far. FH was adamant about not spending a small fortune for pictures, which I can totally understand. But on the other hand, pictures are very important to me, and I'm willing to spend more than he is. I think we've come to a great compromise, though. I've sent an email to a photographer that we agree on (price and style) so hopefully we'll have that squared away soon! My goal is to have all of our deposits paid by the end of March. We already have the church and reception tentatively booked (our names are "penciled in") but of course nothing is for sure until we pay the deposits.
We have a meeting with the caterer on 2/28! Once we have the reception, photographer, and caterer booked and the deposits paid, I probably won't do much until we get closer to the one year mark. I know it's still early to book some of these things, but I need to get it done for my piece of mind! :bblol:
I've also been buying some things on ebay when I find good deals! So far I've gotten 12 wine glasses and my tiara.
Oh, and we also decided not to have a bridal party! I'm a little nervous about how friends/family will react, but it's a huge relief for us not to have one. We will probably still have FG/RB but that'll be it. FH has chosen a friend (he would have been best man) to be one of the witnesses to sign the marriage license, and I need to choose a friend to be the 2nd witness.
I'm also wondering if people will think it's strange not to have a BP at a more "formal" wedding (traditional Catholic Mass). Hopefully we don't catch too much grief over it...this is the best option for us, but I don't want to have to explain our reasoning to everyone and their mother, either.

it's your wedding. do it your way.:flower:
I need to update more often!
It's hard to believe we've been engaged 3 months already!
We've made some progress with the planning lately! I'm meeting with the reception venue this week to pay the deposit and have our date locked in! (they "saved" our date for us, but of course it's not official without the deposit). We also talked to a caterer and booked the photographer!
I have a lot of pictures share so I'll be back with those!
My checklist...to be updated as needed!

Well, that list looks pretty daunting. We have a lot of basics done, which is good! I'm still struggling with how quickly/which order to do some of the other things in. I don't want to do them too early, or end up waiting till the last minute. :bbconfused:
I want to start buying misc. things, just so that we have them and I don't have to worry about it later (toasting flutes, bubbles, cake server set, etc)
Oh, and I also contacted a vendor on etsy who is working on a custom cake top for us! I can't wait to see how it turns out!
Our custom cake topper is finished!! The vendor emailed me the pictures, and she has shipped it, so it should be here in a few days!
We are SO excited!
We are huge Star Trek fans so this is really cool for us! :geek:
She did all of this based on a few (not very good) pictures of us, and a few pictures of ST uniforms. We are impressed by how much they actually look like us!
We have Tribbles by our feet!

I can't wait to see it in person! Now I just need to find a plastic figurine case or something similar so it doesn't get dusty. We already have a place picked out for it in our display case. ;)
We are booking our honeymoon tomorrow! We're just paying the initial deposit to the travel agent, then we have over a year to pay the final balance. We decided to go ahead and get locked in now, since cruise rates are quite low (plus we're sailing in the off-season). The main reason we are booking now is because of the departure date, and we want to be sure we get the cabin we want. Plus if rates drops, the cruise line will honor the lower price.
Anyway, we'll be going on a 5-Day Caribbean cruise leaving from Miami, and we'll probably stay in FL for a few extra days and see some family that won't be able to make it out here for the wedding.
It feels good to at least know where we are going! I know it's still a long ways off, but I feel good about it! It seems like I've been getting a lot of flack form people for doing so much planning so early, but I need to for my sanity. :bblol: I am a full-time student and full-time employee, so free time isn't a luxury I have. The more I get done, the more sanity I'll have as we get closer. But it is getting kind of annoying hearing all of the "you have plenty of time" comments. I KNOW we do, but time also flies. And on top of that, we also are on a fairly tight budget, so the more I spread stuff out, the better. I don't know why I am defending myself. :bblol: I guess I just feel like I have to do that a lot lately.
Pictures!
I haven't posted much about our colors, venues, or other things...so here they are!
The reception venue: (yes, it's fairly narrow. We also rented the outside courtyard which will help. It's hard to see in this pic, but there are three full levels that we have access to, plus there is a great entryway)

Looking out to the courtyard:

A better view of what the 3 levels look like...the top level by the sculpture will probably be the dance floor area:

This is the best pic I have of the color we chose:
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u82/snu005/September%20Fourth/bellalunaoasismenswarehouse.jpg
Inspiration pic for my bouquet. Except instead of orchids, I want lime green chrysanthemums, and also a few roses. Not sure on the colors, yet...

Centerpiece. The square vase will sit on a square mirror, maybe with some votives around it:
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u82/snu005/September%20Fourth/centerpiece.jpg
The invitations will probably be in this style, with teal or black pockets:
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u82/snu005/September%20Fourth/pocketyourstruly.jpg
Since we aren't having a best man in the traditional sense (at least not one who will stand at the altar for the whole ceremony) we are going to get something like this ring bowl for our rings so we can get to them easily:
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u82/snu005/September%20Fourth/il_430xN61020351.jpg
I'm at my image max for this post...more next!
More pictures!
And my current favorite dress. FH commented once that he really likes corset backs, so I'm really only considering those dresses. This is an Alfred Angelo. I'm also tall (almost 6''0") so I will need to get something with extra length most likely.
Simple but still beautiful!

I LOVE the bodice on that dress!
and those ring bowls are so sweet!
Wedding planning has been kind of quiet lately.
I think my biggest concern right now is feeling good and looking good! I know that if I start soon, I'll be able to reach my goals. I don't want to be beating myself up a year from now about how I shoulda-woulda-coulda done it sooner. ;) I want to be able to lose some weight before the wedding (I know most brides say that!) I'm just having a hard time staying motivated with going to the gym and eating right. I'm hoping that since I'll have more time this summer, I can shed a few pounds.
Most of the big wedding things have been figured out (mainly venues and the honeymoon) so our budget is pretty much set now! I'd also like to start some DIY project this summer. I'm trying to sorta plan things around my work schedule and vacation times (I work at an elementary school). I know I definitely want to have the invitations done by Spring Break next year, so that by the time the school year is over, I can get ready to drop them in the mail (I want to send them a little early -- probably mid-June--since we're getting married on a holiday weekend)
Still not too much going on around here in terms of the wedding. FH and I checked out a Kung Fu school to get some extra exercise, but we haven't decided if we are going to do it or not. It's pretty expensive for something we feel only so-so about. We both have done martial arts in the past and really enjoyed it, so I don't know if it was just this particular school or what, but we weren't totally in love with it. We may check out some other places. I also decided for sure that I am going to do a summer fitness bootcamp. :) It's run by an ex-Marine, so I figure he'll do a great job yelling at me and hopefully help me shed some pounds. :icon_barbar:
Oh, I did order some samples from paper and more (http://paperandmore.com) so I can start practicing with the invitations this summer as well. So far I am thinking about black pocketfolds with a our color ribbon, and a monogram sticker.
Similar to this:
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u82/snu005/Wedding/invite1.jpg
And, I just got an email from my mom. She says she talked to my dad, and they'd like to pay for our reception music! We were thinking of just using our Ipod since our budget is tight, but we really wanted to hire a swing band or a DJ. My mom wants me to get some quotes and they'll decide how much they are willing to give us! :bbmrgreen:

OMG A swing band would be so much fun!
I sent out a few quote requests for bands and DJs today. I'm hoping we can find a band for the right price! It'll work perfectly with the first dance we have planned. ;)
My invite samples came today! I already cut the paper and made up a sample. I need to look into getting the pre-cut papers when I order the real thing.
500 Days til our wedding!
It seems like a milestone, of sorts. :bblol:
I am going to order the supplies for the invites pretty soon! I am going to work on getting a sample invite printed first with the materials I already have, so I can get a better idea of how it'll all look together. I'll post a pic once I finish.

exciting!!
Well, I think we found a wedding band! I actually found them quite awhile ago (before my parents offered to help out with the music). I showed FH their website, and he was really impressed! I sent them another email, got a new quote (since I couldn't remember what they said previously) and then presented everything to my parents. They also think it's a good choice, so I think we are going to book them! We would like to see them perform before we sign a contract, though.
It seems like our guest list keeps growing! (but isn't that always the case?) We agreed that our very maximum is 100 people attending. So far we have 106 on our (rough draft) list, but we know at least 10 of them won't be able to come (but we want to send an invite, since they are family).
It seems like time is flying! Which is good, because I'm impatient! :bblol:
Updating the big list! Will do a better update in the next post!

So a few things have changed. Originally we said we weren't going to have a bridal party. Then we changed our minds. But we're having a hard time deciding WHO to have in our party. I told FH we need to decide by this September, so we can give people time to plan and go dress/tux shopping.
We are going to talk to a jazz band this week! If it goes well, I am hoping to book/pay a deposit. I am really excited about this meeting! They sound amazing on their website, and they are the most affordable band we've found so far.
I also made a sample invite, which I'll post next!
Since I'm off this summer, there's some things I want to do. I'm going to break it down by month:
June
Jazz Band
Order supplies for invitations
July
Look for dance lessons
Talk to priest about starting marriage prep.
August
Start dance lessons
Start looking for florist and cake vendors (I'm not sure if it's too early for these. It seems like I've gotten A LOT of flack for planning "too early" We will probably look into a few places and see what they recommend).
Start working on assembling invitations: I'm a slow with this kind of thing, so I am giving myself plenty of time (I want them finished by March so they can be mailed by the 1st of June) Yes, I know I do things way early. But between school and work, I'll need it! And then into the fall...
September/October
Make a payment to our photographer
Schedule our engagement pics!
I'm sure I'll add to the list as I think of more.
Here's my first rough draft sample invitation. The paper is not cardstock, and I didn't do a great job with the cutting (I'll have the paper cut by the company).
The graphic at the bottom may or may not be what I use for the real invitations.
Here is the wording:
Please accept our invitation
to join family and friends in
witnessing the sanctity of our love,
devotion, and dedication to our new life.
We,
Bride
and
Groom
will be joined in Holy Matrimony
on the fourth of September, two-thousand ten
At two o-clock in the afternoon

We decided to go with the petal fold style. I am going to make a little booklet with rsvp, directions, etc.

I found dance lessons! We are hoping to start this coming Tuesday!
I went to the Jazz Band's rehearsal with my mom, and we absolutely love them! We decided to book them from 4-8PM. They are supposed to email me the contract in the next few days, then we'll pay the deposit.
We also have a (very basic) tentative wedding day timeline:
9:00 Hair and makeup with my mom
12:00 Arrive at church/get ready. Start taking pictures
2:00 - 3:00 Ceremony
3:00 - 3:45 More pictures, mingling, and snacks
4:00 - 8:00 Reception
We are thinking about offering some light snacks at the church (it's a beautiful property with nice picnic tables, or a small building we could use) since the reception venue is about 15 min. away from the ceremony. I don't want people to get there too early (so the band has time to set up, etc) and figured this might be a good way to hold them at the church even for 15-20 minutes.
We still haven't decided about our bridal party, other than the "ring bearers." FH and I have three nephews between the two of us, and they are all within 6 moths of each other (they will all turn 5 within a few months of the wedding). So instead of having a traditional ring bearer (or having to choose between them), we are going to have all three of them pass out bubbles.
And I decided to add an accent color! The teal and black seemed like it needed something extra, so I am throwing in a little bit of red! Probably just for the flowers and decorations. I don't want to go too over-board with it. Here's an example:
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u82/snu005/real-wedding-3.jpg
We also decided that the bride's maids will wear tea length black dresses, and the guys are more than welcome to wear a black suit if they own one already (otherwise then can rent a suit or tux) Both my dad and my FH want to buy new black suits for the wedding.
And I also emailed a cake person. Since we have the Star Trek cake topper, we want to have the wedding cake kind of "themey" but still elegant. If that's possible! :winktongue:
I've been MIA for awhile!
We've gotten quite a few things done:
We met with a cake vendor on Saturday. We decided to go all out and have our cake fit in with our Star Trek topper. :) The best part is, the cake is only going to cost $250. I wasn't sure how much to budget, but I was expecting at least $300, so I am happy!
I changed my mind in invitations. I think I am just going to order them and not do DIY. I just don't have the patience (or the creativity, really) to pull them off like I want to. I have a certain "vision" in mind for the invitations, and I just couldn't seem to create it.
I officially have a bride's maid and a flower girl! FH called his sister today, so I took the opportunity to get on the phone and ask her to be a BM, and also see if she was okay to have her daughter be the flower girl. She says she is excited to be part of our day, and she wants to help me with planning and DIY! Since she lives out of state, we are going to start emailing back and forth.
We did choose the jazz band, and are just waiting on the contract to be emailed so we can get the deposit taken care of (the band is a gift from my parents).
While on vacation a few weeks ago, I bought my wedding day jewelry (necklace and earrings) as well as necklaces for all the bride's maids. I'll post pics soon!
We have a meeting with a florist on Tuesday! Once that is done, all the major vendors will be taken care of. The next major thing will be dress shopping and engagement pictures, but I don't think I'll do dress shopping until wintertime, and we still haven't decided when to get our epics done.
I can't believe how close we are getting to the one year mark! Time has gone by quickly!

Thanks!
Oh, and I forgot to add the best thing about our date!
9.4.10 will be the 5th anniversary of the day we first met in person!:jplove:
I've been reading back through your journals, and my date (the same as yours) is the 5th anniversary of FH and I moving in together!
And you seem so ahead of me in planning. Good job! I need to get caught up to you!
Less than a year to go now! :bun:
All of the major stuff has been decided...well, except my dress! I'm not sure when I am going to go shopping. We also have to get our engagement pictures taken.
We recently moved into a new house, so we've been really busy getting things in order.
Wish I had more to talk about around here. :bblol: Things are moving along nicely. Pretty soon I am going to start some DIY projects. I'm just not sure where to start...
Updated to-do list!

Planning is going well! I have my dress, and all of the major decisions have been made. Now I am working on invitations, favor boxes, and centerpieces. I think we are pretty much good as far as the budget goes, but I am still getting stressed! I feel like time is slipping away FAST! I'm worried I don't have enough time to get everything done, let alone buy all the little things...bridal party gifts, parent gifts, shoes, a suit for FH...the list just never seems to end!
I really should start posting around here more. I'm sure it'll help my sanity!
