This may sound stupid, but I need an opinion and I don't have a pic.

You see, we live on the second floor and have the stairs from the first floor walking up into our living room. So, we have this massive wall half by the stairs and the rest in our living room. I want to do something to decorate it (big), but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on art.

Have you ever seen Trading Spaces where they will put a beautiful fabric in a frame? Is this stupid?? I used to think it was, but now I'm seeing the benefits of it.

I actually love that idea! I think it could be really nice if you find the right colors/fabrics. I found this example:

You made me want to do it now. :grinhappy: We desperately need art, but im too cheap to buy it.

I could see some nice fabric "art" framed as decor :-)

Or maybe even make unframed fabric panels or blocks sort of like this -

Although it's not framed. I'm not sure if that was something you definitely wanted.

I don't think that's stupid at all. Reminded me of all the times I said "cool" when watching Trading Spaces, lol.

This is an excellent idea! It's definitely something I'll have to look into when we move into another apartment. Our old apartment had bare walls and was boring. This would be much cheaper than buying pictures, and I think it'd look just as cool.

We are staging a house to sell (our own house... we have two at the moment) and this is what we are going to do for art work... A series of three.... a large square one in the middle and slightly more narrow ones on each side. I'm looking for fabric that looks like a landscape.

For 15 bucks plus the stretcher bars, you have art...

Although it's not framed. I'm not sure if that was something you definitely wanted. We recently bought some canvas stretchers off of Amazon to do this. Now we just have to find the fabric. Will post pics once we do it :)

thats a really neat idea. Especially as Fh and I plan on gettin an apartment & naive little me didn't realize til some co-workers told me the other day they don't like for you to paint the walls in apt... or that it might cause you to loose your deposit:( Pooh! I was liking the idea of doing colors, but this might be a cool alternative and still allow lots of color!
