Is it normal for guests to bail out a week before the wedding?

Yep afraid so. Some things are just unfortunate and unforseen. And we have to just jiggle a few things about and hey-presto, back to normal.

At my first wedding i had people TURN UP a week before. :bbeek:

Wow, I guess I wasn't prepared. We have to have at least 100 people (we get charged for 100 no matter what) and are now down 5 people to 98. I'm more sad that it was my friend I've known the longest, since Kindgergarden :(

Yep .... it happens. At least they were considerate enough to let you know. Some people just don't show up and never call to tell you that they won't be there.

Yeah, that's true. I can't believe my 2 oldest friends won't be coming...

We had a lot of people that just didn't show up. I think we ended up having about 130 people attend.

That is disappointing. Are their reasons understandable at least?

I feel your pain. We found out last minute DH's parents couldn't make it to our wedding. :( His was scheduled for an operation the Monday following our wedding. The 12 hour trip and the stress FIL & MIL were under just made it impossible for them to consider.

Yeah, it's reasonable I guess but I guess in my mind I would have done whatever it took to be there for theirs. I'm just sensitive I guess.

As far as your caterer goes, can you have them make up to-go boxes with the extra meals so you can take them home for after the wedding?

I'm going to attempt to fill in the spaces with people...we'll see.

This has been an unbelievably awful week. I think 3 out of the 5 days I've been crying.

This has been an unbelievably awful week. I think 3 out of the 5 days I've been crying.Awwww chin up girlie! You're almost there! :D

I had one person email me one or two days before the wedding letting me know he couldn't come due to a new job. Then I had an aunt, two cousins and my cousin's family say they were coming to my face and then not show :irked:

The majority will be there though, loving you and supporting you :)

Thanks, it helps to hear. I wish I'd stop crying, I feel like a freak. Dammit :D I found out from my SIL that 20 people just didn't show up to her wedding because they were upset children weren't invited.

TI wish I'd stop crying, I feel like a freak.

I don't know if it helps but you are actually quite normal .... you are down to the crunch now and so the nerves are kicking in.

I was looking earlier at the posts that I had made here, just weeks before my own wedding ... and it seemed that everything was going wrong and that everything was getting to me!

Not to worry. You will live through this. Just breathe girl. Your day will be spectacular, and you will finally be married to the love of your life.

Now .... take your left arm and wrap it across the front of your body. Take your right arm and wrap it across the front of your body - now squeeze tight!!!

awww sorry your two closest friends are not going

my brother called the day of the wedding to say he was not coming. Like 3 hours before the cermony to say that. He wouldnt even call me he called someone else to tell me. He still has not spoken to me to this day and i refuse to call him! his excuse...he had to work (yet he known about the date for over a year!) (i am still upset with him to this day!)

so hang in there! There will be people there to love and support you.

sometimes things do come up last minute (an unexpected death)

Did you have to turn in your final numbers yet? Maybe you can adjust the numbers. We were suppose to have 100 people in our room to keep it and we only paid for 97 and we still got to keep the room (only 91 show up i believe)

*you are getting married on my mom birthday!*

It doesn't matter about the numbers they have at this point. We have to pay for a 100 even if 75 come so I'm trying to fill them in right now and then fix the seating arrangements. Thanks guys, you've helped.
