View Full Version : Cake ideas
I am having a cupcake cake. For several different reasons (cheapness being one of them) Another reason is I don't like the taste of wedding cake. Anyone have any good ideas? Thanks!
Are you making like a full size wedding cake or mini cakes?
Something like a mini wedding cake (http://www.onewed.com/wedding-cake-picture/wedding-cake-44.html) cupcake would be cool, I think!
If I remember right we had a limen/vanilla cake as we did not like the standard wedding cake taste.

Today, standard wedding cake flavor is anything but standard. It is very common to find any flavor you can imagine in a wedding cake- I have even seen a banana cream cake!

We did a cupcake tree and it was a huge hit. We had 3 flavors of cupcakes, chocolate, strawberry, and white. A friend of mine baked them and they turned out awesome. I'll post a pic of the tree if I have it on this PC.
Just make sure everyone knows they CAN eat the cupcakes. A lot of people seemed to think they were for decoration. :)

Ive seen some beautiful cupcake trees. I didnt want the traditional cake either. We had two layers of white cake and two layers of italian cream cake. Then the chocolate grooms cake. It was great. Everyone came back for seconds to try different flavors.

Our wedding cake was filled with strawberry filling on some layers and bavarian cream on the others (wish I had done all strawberry after the fact). It gave a nice twist to the traditional wedding cake. (I really would have loved to do other flavors of cake, but my hubby was pretty set on White cake.)
I like the idea of the mini-wedding cakes as something a bit fanicer, or you could do a petit for (sorry for the spelling) type of thing. (You know...little square cakes that are decorated really pretty)
Those would all be pretty original. I think that I would personally have trays on differing levels with risers so that you don't just have the standard cupcake tree stand. That would also jazz it up a bit.
Hope this helps! (Now I'm hungry! )

Another reason I am doing a cupcake cake is for the frosting. I am highly allregic to peanuts. I also can't have antying with nuts or any type of nut products in it.
