Next month we are going to the florist to talk about flowers. I was just wondering if anyone knew what flowers were in season in October? We really need to start to be tighter with our budget, so the flowers I wanted are out. Thanks for the help!

I would say to talk with your florist. I would stay away from "spring" flowers: tulips, peonies, lily of the valley, daffodils, ect those are very costly to import. For October if you want to stay in season I would think you would be safe with roses, carnations, daisies, gerber daises, calla lillies, regular lillies, mums, poms, ect. Think of the flowers you can find in the grocery store all year when you are shopping.

I googled "flowers in October" and found this site:

There were a lot more.

Also pay attention to what type of flowers are common for your area. I would think that has something to do with the cost. But I don't really know.

Thanks ladies. I wish I would have paid more attention last fall as to what was in bloom! O well. I'm sure my florist will have lots of ideas too. I'd like to some some ideas of my own. I'd still really like to do the Calla Lilies I found a picture of online. Maybe I can just add a few to my bouquet to make it different from the others. I'm going to have to start looking for silk flowers too, since that will save money when it comes to the bouts and the BM's flowers. I think I'm just going real for mine, the church and maybe a small arrangement for the cake and gift tables. Cindy, I checked out that site and it did give me some more ideas. Thanks again!

Are you looking for a particular color? You have chosen a beautiful time of year, IMO. You have a choice between chrysanthemums, roses, gerbera daisies, marigolds, and zinnias. I think even asters are a good choice. You can use leaves, yarrow, and rosehips as fillers if you need to.

My wedding is in October and I am going with orange, yellow, and brown calla lillies for the bridesmaids (5 flowers for each of them at $4 a piece= $20 per bouquet) and five white calla lillies for myself. I am not using flowers in the church or reception hall to cut costs. Our church is beautiful and I don't feel it needs any decorating, and we are going to come up with something for centerpieces for the reception hall (I think a brown linen napkin in the middle of the table with a big orange candle on it.) My flower girls are going to drop fake petals due to church policy.

I was possibly thinking about using peonies as my flowers (ivory for me and bright bright pink for the BM's) but I can't find any sites that have some bouquets to look at. If y'all know of any, please let me know!
Thanks

Try taking a trip to a local place that sells flowers. Not an expensive florist, but a floral department in a supermarket or what not. The people there know there products. Take a walk around and if you see something you like ask about it. Find out: Is it an all year grower? Colour selections? What family it belongs to (that would open doors to other flowers).
I say this because I worked in a floral shop to put myself through college. Also remember, all the flowers come from a certain grower. That grower might suprisingly be in your area. If your planning to buy a bunch you can contact the grower and find out if they can cut you a deal. Quite often the growers have an "in" with a florist aswell.
I did MANY arrangments, and there is always a deal out there!

I work part time for an event florist. If you still want to use calla lilies (they are my fav flower!) they are expensive but to get the most for your money...the mini callas come in bunches of 10 and the large in bunches of 5. So plan it out where you would use close to that number. Your florist will have lots of pictures to look at for more ideas. Best of luck!

Also bouts should only cost around $7 each depending on flower (mums are super cheap, and button mums look really cute in green, white or yellow) and the bms could carry a single flower (calla) with ribbon and it would look pretty and elegant without trying to mix silk and real.

I found this website too.

Hope this helps. I used Roses, of course mine were all silk, but they were cheaper than they would usually be.
