Dog that is *wink*
We got our doggie yesterday! His name is Enzo ... like Enzo Ferrari, my husbands fav F1 racing team. He is 9 mos old, will be a year old in June. He is about 10 lbs, 18 in tall ... such a sweetie and spoiled already (he is sitting in my lap as I type this)
Here are a few pics ...

He's a cutie!! Congrats on becoming a parent!! ;)
I love the name. So unique.
Our cat is named after Bill Murray. After watching Lost in Translation, I realised that Murray acted JUST LIKE Bob Harris.
I have an unhealthy obsession with Bill Murray, though...
Oh well. Love the puppy!!

Thanks everyone!
... What kind of dog is he?
He is an Italian Greyhound
... Is he going to be a little dog? I cant tell what kind he is thats why I asked.
Yeah, he is a little one ... he is full grown, he shouldn't ever get more than 15 lbs. He is about 18 in tall and the breeder said that was a little tall for the breed
You know i have the same pj pants as you! I love Old Navy! I am wearing them now! *hehe* I Love Old Navy too, I have 3 pairs of PJ pants from there. I like to wear them and a t-shirt aroung the house and to bed too ... DH calls it my 'body armor' ;)

Adam says I can't have any puppies right now. Don't have time to train one. He is a fanatic about that. Our dog now knows every trick in the book. Which is fine, But I want a cute puppy like yours, Brandi!

Very cute puppy. Congrats! I can NOT show this thread to Nicholas. He is a dog man. Had toleave his dog in WV when he moved here. His mom has him now. We have cats and he has never had a cat before. He wants a dog sooo bad. It will be a long time bfore we get a house where he can have one. I feel bad for him.
Again very cute puppy! I am happy for ya!

Wow Brandi he's gettin big! What a cutie!!
He is full grown (at 18 inches tall) it's just he has gained a few pounds. I think he was like 14 lbs when we got him and he was 16.5 pounds after we went to have his stitches out from his neuter a couple of weeks ago. He could probably hold a couple more pounds and still be right for the breed.
We went to the dog park today and say a couple of other IG's (Italian Greyhounds) and one lady commented on how Enzo looks more like the breed is suppose to look ... Her's was a little over weight ;)
Thanks everyone, I think he is a cutie  He is tuckered out from the day at the dg park and is sleeping in my lap now.

I have been meaning to ask you but is Enzo hyper? My mom wants a little dog that isn't going too energetic and hyper because she can't keep up with it. She needs something a little more sedate. How about the shedding, does he shed because that will drive her nuts too?

They have monthly winners and they get $1,000 :D I don't know if they have like 2nd or 3rd place. I doubt he will win, but I figured it couldn't hurt to try. The last winners were not all that cute IMO

Well, yes and no ... He has a good bit of energy and likes to run and play, but he is also a lap dog and loves to sleep in my lap.
Each dog will have a different personality and the older they get the more they calm down. As a breed they are pretty energetic dogs and need at least 30 mins of exercise a day. Enzo gets about a 15-30 min walk everyday and ALOT of play exercise. He LOVES his toys and will run back and forth in the living room chasing after them when I throw them ;)
The males are generally more 'clingy' the females are usually a little more independent. But they both will love their people and want to please you.
Another thing I like about Enzo is that he isn't much of a barker ... we've had him for just over 2 months and I've only heard him bark twice. Once when DH scared the pee out of him (literally) and once when he lost his toy under the sofa ;) But, I know another lady that has one that barks all the time. Enzo was training to be a show dog when we got him so that is probably why is tends to be a little more laid back ... lucky for me *hehe*
As for the shedding, he doesnt shed much at all and needs very little grooming. This was a BIG selling point for us since I am somewhat allergic to many dogs. Italian Greyhounds don't have that 'doggie oder' most dogs do, so they don't need baths as much as other dogs. I bathe Enzo about once a month, unless he gets out into something like at the Dog Park.
They have very little body fat so they like to be warm and are NOT outside dogs. They can have a stubborn streak and can be difficult to house train. They are also somewhat fragile and prone to leg brakes because of their sleek frame and skinny legs. And since they are sight hounds, they cannot be trusted outside off leash ... they could catch sight of a bird or a squirrel and take off after it.
I have heard some people say they are cat like because of the stubborn streak (will want to do what they want at times) and that they like to sleep in a ball right next to you, or under the covers ... and they will groom themselves like a cat sometimes too.
Enzo is what is called within the breed a 'biggie' he is 18 inches tall and about 17 pounds ... he is all muscle and a bit more 'sturdy' than some. The breed standard/average is 15 in tall and 10 lbs ... I have heard of some that were 'mini' and as little as 5 lbs at about 12 in tall. If we get another I defiantly would want another 'biggie'
You can find out more about the breed here - http://www.italiangreyhound.org/aboutigs/whatrigs.html You can also check out this forum and talk to other IG owners www.IGPost.com (I am 'flutter' on there ;))
Sorry I went a little long there, we did alot of reaserch before we got Enzo. We decided to look for an older dog that was partieally trained to lessen the 'puppy' period. I love them, the breed was just perfect for us and I don't think I would ever have another dog.
Oh, one other thing ... don't buy and IG (or any animal for that matter) from a pet store! I would suggest finding a reputale breeder in your area. You will have a happier, healthier dog and usually breeders will spend time and money working to better the breed. They will have genetic testing and all that good stuff. You just never know what you are getting from a pet store, and the people will tell you anything to make a sale.
