Oh man I am in trouble ... apparently my checking out is overdrawn and they are charging me $92 for it!
I called and they tried to explain it to me; it seems that there was a hold on some funds to cover something else then I made a debit purchase. Why they let the debit go through if there was a hold on something I don't get!? Probably because they just want your money!
DH is upset with me saying I should be more aware and shouldn't have let the account get that low anyway; he is probably right.
I balanced my check book after I went shopping the other day and found that I was like $1.60 overdrawn. But I thought my deposit would clear in time and even if it didn't that the fee would only be like $25 at the most.
But $92! OMG, I am gonna cry ... I need to go buy groceries and I need to buy a birthday gift for my niece :(
I guess I am gonna go cry to the bank manager and hope they can reverse at least part of this for me.
Wish me luck!
if it's your first offense, a lot of time the bank will waive the charge. that just happened ot me and i was charged $32 which they did reverse when i asked them nicely :)
dont be too hard on yourself, it happens!
good luck!!

I've never had any luck with the bank waiving overdraft fees for me, even when it was their fault. I hope you have better luck! It happens to everyone at some point. :)

Well I just got back (branch is right around the corner) from the bank; cried a little and they were able to waive half the fee. So I guess that is better than nothing ... still sucks though. Now I gotta re-work my budget; and I hate having to ask DH for money, especially when he will see this as my fault :ooh:

I bank with Washington Mutual and they refund you 1 overdraft fee per month! part of their free checking account, plus free checks and wire transfers.
good luck

We've all been there, I think. But wow, that's a HUGE fee! I bitched that the fee at my bank just got raised (again) to $45.

Now I am sitting here thinking of all I need (and wanted) to spend money on and I am coming up short and I don't get paid again for 2 weeks :worm:
I have to buy my niece a birthday pressent, I need to go to the grocery store, I wanted to get my hair trimmed, and Father's day is coming up too!
OK, I am done feeling low, it will all work out one way or another :p

$92???!!! That is outragous. After I was charged $39 for going $.36 over after a cup of coffee at Starbucks, I got overdraft protection. It was a cc linked to the account and it had 0% interest so it was really nice. I can't begin to add up the overdrafts this would have saved me through out the years. I keep my savings at a different bank, but that is also an option for protection.

Yeah, I used to have a savings account with overdraft protection, but I don't have the savings anymore.

I hear ya there (stay at home mom) but the cc is really nice. Although sometimes it is tempting to say "Oh, the overdraft will cover it..."

This happened to Steve before. :( When he called and asked WHY they let his debit go through, they told him 'well, some people live that way'.. Awesome.
I'm glad you got half of it off at least, Brandi! Steve was charged like $100 something.. And they wouldn't wave ANY of it. :sob:
I have overdrafts too, and luckily they waived them. It's like, can't you tell I need the money and not you?! so don't charge me more! lol

I didn't know they could waive overdrafts! :O
You learn something new everyday...
I'm glad that you got half of it waived, but it still sucks. We came home from our honeymoon and had been charged over $100 in overdraft charges. "Welcome back" LOL We had paid all of our room charges with cash, but they had charged us on our debit card as well. They reversed the charges, but we still had to pay the overdraft. Very frustrating!

I totally can sympathize. I ordered a sample of paper for my wedding invitations the other day - a total of like $1.50. I used FH's check card to place the order (with his permission of course!) and I overdrew his account by $0.23. So I spent over $35 for a sample of paper that isn't even the right color! ARGGHHH!! Luckily FH is so easy going he didn't even care. I just have to be way more careful in the future.
