View Full Version : My Wedding Story

The weather cooperated for my outdoor wedding. The rehearsal was nice, but there were a lot of mosquitos! Somebody brought Off!, though, so that helped. After the rehearsal we went to the Stone Cellar for a pizza buffet, appetizers, and beer. It was nice and relaxing to have everyone together in a casual environment! Towards the end of the evening I started to feel run down and had a sore throat. No biggie. I was super-tired and just wanted to go to bed.

While in bed, I couldn't fall asleep and was so COLD! I had chills and was covered with 7 blankets. I was also feeling nauseous, but not in a nervous way. More like a sick way. I got about 3 hours of sleep, after rummaging around my parents medicine cabinet for ANYTHING to make me drowsy (ended up with some Benadryl) at 2am. I planned on getting up at 6:30 to finish some stuff (sandwich platters for bridal party, stuffing rose petal cones) but felt like garbage so I stayed in bed until 8am.

I dragged myself through the shower and got to my hair appointment at 9:05am. Everyone could tell I wasn't feel good, and my MOH ran to the drugstore and got me some Dayquil. My hair got put up, my make-up was done and I started to perk up a little bit. Brian forgot the check for our limo bus, so I had to run it over to the hotel before getting to the ceremony site. No big deal.

We arrived at the site at noon, wedding was at 1:30pm. I directed the BMs to decorate the aisle with some bows my mom and I made. At 1:15pm, the programs and petal cones were STILL in the bridal room, so I had my personal attendant bring those out. We had some "getting ready" pics done while waiting to start. Then I heard Phil Vassers "Love is a Beautiful Thing" start, and that was the last pre-ceremony song. We ran into an adjacent barn to start the processional. It went off without a hitch, mostly. The monogrammed aisle runner I made was unrolled, but it was so windy that it ballooned up at the back. There weren't enough stakes to stake it down so by the time I got there it was all windblown to one side of the aisle. People were making jokes that they were glad my Dad had something to walk on... :) Before the ceremony started, the officiant asked if I wanted the runner out. I said no because it was all windblown, so the ushers pulled it out of the aisle.

During the vows, Brian got teary-eyed but I remained tear-less. I thought for sure I'd be crying, but I was more happy than anything! People started crying during our family sand-ceremony, it was very moving. And then at the end of pouring the sand out of his container, my son had it completely upside down and was tapping the bottom of it. That was cute!

After that, we had a receiving line. And we had all of our pictures taken, which was fun. Our photographer was really easy-going. I can't wait to see how they turned out. Then we jumped on the limo bus and went to a bar near the reception site. We had a picture of all the girls up on the bar!

When we got to the reception we did the cake cutting right away because it was being served for dessert. We each fed each other nicely, no smushing it in each other's faces! :) Then we did our first dance before dinner, too. After dinner, we had our slideshow and got many compliments on it! Then the bridal party was introduced and we went into the bridal party dance. Then we had regular dancing for about an hour, and then we did father/daughter, mother/son dances. After that we did the LIMBO! And Brian and my son were the last two. Neither could make it under the lowest rung, so it was a tie.

We headed to our hotel at 11:45pm feeling exhausted and happy. One of my bridesmaids got the key and put out rose petals, champagne, and chocolate-covered strawberries! YUM!

So it was a wonderful, stressful day and I wasn't feeling the greatest but the adrenaline really kicked in. Of course, it's now Monday and I'm STILL not feeling the greatest, but oh well. There were no major catastrophes and I'm happy with all of the projects I did!

Next up! Honeymoon from 6/7-6/14 in Riviera Maya, MEXICO!!! YAY!!!

How was the reception?

The reception was fun! I danced until my feet hurt. It hurt to take off my shoes because my feet were kind of swollen! I wore my shoes all day because I didn't want to run out to the car and get my flip-flops. But my shoes were comfortable for the most part. My dress was a spec too long, so it helped to pull it all the way up on my chest. I lost about 5# after I had my last fitting and didn't think it would make that big of a deal. It kind of did because my dress wouldn't stay up all the way! It was still comfortable, but just a li'l too long. There weren't as many people dancing as I would've expected, but our DJs were really great. And they told us we were a pleasure to work with because we were pretty "go with the flow" type people. They also did our ceremony music and were fantastic! I walked down the aisle to Jason Castro's version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and it was sooooo perfect! Yes, that's American Idol Jason Castro... :) I couldn't have asked for a better day!
