Okay - I'll go first!
Originally from Ohio, I moved to Florida for a few months. My "boyfriend" at the time still lived in Ohio...we had been dating for about 10 months.
Now, we started, okay, I started talking about getting married after we had been together for only 4 months... so we both kind of had the idea in our heads that when he came down to visit in Florida it would be a great time to get engaged.
We he got into town, we went out and picked out an engagement ring - okay, I picked out. So I knew he had it...I just didn't know when it would happen.
On March 15, 2003 - we went to a little place called Sarasota Jungle Gardens...which is exactly what it sounds like - half zoo half botanical garden. Long story short.....in front of a waterfall at surrounded by flamingos, he got down on one knee, said some words I cannot remember, and I said yes!
Then we had some cute little ol' ladies take our picture. That's it! We went back to the apartment and told my parents, and called his parents.
Now, the first time he told me he loved me - when he yelled it in the grocery store - THAT'S a whole other story!!
Okay, someone else's turn to tell!!

My husband proposed to me on Christmas Eve / my 20th birthday. We had been at my parents house at the annual Christmas Eve Bash ~ he wanted to go back to his house to open our christmas presents b/c we wouldn't be getting to spend Christmas Day together ~ he had to work (he's a sheriff's deputy).
We went back to his house, opened our gifts & watched some movies. I fell asleep on the couch & I woke up to him sitting on the floor in front of the couch just starring at me ~ I asked him what was wrong & he said he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I said, "Ok". He then said, I'm serious - will you marry me??. Of course I said yes ~ then all I could do was cry!! He had designed my ring his self with some help from a friend who is a jeweler. The ring wasn't even ready yet when he asked me ~ he said he was just so nervous, that he couldn't wait any longer!
Okay - who's next ? ? ?

Why does it have to have been an official proposal? Everyone acts like its a big deal because someone asked someone else (and that usually means that they had to have a ring).
Neither one of us asked the other. We just kind of agreed that we wanted to get married and started chatting about dates. I don't have an engagement ring and don't need one. But I still consider us engaged.

Well, it doesn't have to be an offical proposal at all . . . this thread was started so that board members could enjoy other's postings.
If the thread really doesn't apply to you, then you really don't have to post to the thread.

It's a funny story because i actually called him while he was picking out my ring. I was working that day but wanted to call him and see how things were going. (He was in the city with his best friend, shopping.)After he bought the ring he wanted to wait for a while but couldn't because he was so excited. So he took me to the local park and we went for a walk. I noticed that he was acting a little strange and wondered what was up with him. Anyhow, we stopped by a park bench and he took my hand in his and asked me to marry him. (He was so nervous and excited that he forgot to get down on one knee.Lol.) Then he pulled out a beautiful .33 carat diamond ring. I was so happy that i started to laugh and say yes like a million times. It was amazing and so is he!

I had mentioned on another board that my promise ring i have is a pre-engaement ring. He wants to get me a dimond with in a couple of months. But he was here for a week with me ( heading back home the day after Valentines day). I knew he had a ring for me cause we ahd talekd about a promise ring. Wel I thought i knew he had a ring for me. He mentinoed it then said he didnt have one but was looking at rings. I was hopign he had one only caue he talked about it so much. My Valentines was more like a week not jsut a day. Little suprises every other day. It was great. It was the wed. before Valentins day i think, I couldnt wait and wanted to give him what i bought for him. I got him a necklace. So after he opened it we talked for a few mins then he got up. Tossed me a little bag with a bear in it, and a ring box. He sat beside me on my bed put the ring on my finger after i opened the box and said , will you marry me? I threw my arms around him and kissed him. He said is that a yes? lol It is a purple heart shaped stone with 2 small dimonda on either side set in white gold. He siad this was a promise that he will be back and we will get married. I love him so much. He IS a very amazing man. He says he knows how much i love him but he will never truly know how much.

The way my fiance proposed to me was very personal. He flew down to Texas to drive me home for the holidays because I was on heavy pain medications for some disastrous wisdom teeth. We stopped at his house on the way up to pick up some stuff for the weekend for him before we went on to my mother's house. We had talked about getting engaged and I knew he was going to ask at some point. He stopped after packing like he was checking to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything and then looked at me. He said he had to decide right now and I looked at him for a moment and realized what he was talking about. I pulled on his hand and told him I was heading upstair so he better decide now. He pulled the ring out of his pocket and got down on one knee. He had brought it with him all the way to Texas waiting for just the right moment. He told me that before me, he couldn't see himself getting married, but when he met me he knew. He said he couldn't imagine spending his life with anyone else. Afterwards, we went up to say goodbye to his family and he stared at the ring: his mother saw it and jumped up. She was SO excited. Everyone hugged us. The ring is a family heirloom and it's really beautiful. It was one of the happiest days of my life; but with him the happiest days are innumerable.

Well i am from Jersey City, New Jersey and me and my now fiance met infront of my house. I had just recently moved there with a roomate and he lived across the street. After a couple of months of talking to him my roomate moved to Puerto Rico and i had to look for another roomate. At first i thought about asking him since i already knew that he liked me, but i didn't want to move to fast. At the time i wanted to be single because i had just gotten out of a bad relationship so i wanted to fish around. Next thing you know he offered to move in with me nothing serious just to help me pay the bills. So i agree and well one thing led to another and we fell in love in a matter of months. I knew he was the one because he told me that he loved me first. That had never happened to me. And so a year and a half later he proposed to me in a very nice restaurant with my sister and my best friend present. It was very emotional i will never forget that day. Until this day i can't believe that i have met my soul mate. I think about it and i start to cry because it was so beautiful. He's a very romantic man knows how to do things the right way! I love him so much! And that is my Proposal Story I hope that you guys like it.

On February 9th, 2005 I awoke to find many letters scattered throughout our house. Each letter described a stage in our relationship and how our relationship strengthened because of it. Tears kept pouring down my face as I continued to read on. And each letter was more sincere, romantic and beautiful than the last. !! When I got to the last letter, it ended by saying "Meet me at Walter Scott Public School in the gym at 3:30pm." My heart dropped. This was the elementary school we met at in Grade 4. Could it be THE DAY I thought? But then again, Valentines Day was approaching, maybe it was just something romantic for the special day.
At 3:30pm on the dot I showed up at Walter Scott Public school, to a very nervous looking Ryan. We walked around the hallways for a bit, reminicing about our old school. He then walked me in to the gym and took my hand. He told me that this was the firs t place I entered his life, and his life never truly began until I was in it. Many beautiful words later, along with many tears, I had a gorgeous ring on my left hand, and a gaggle of teachers stormed in to the gym clapping!
wow shauna thats a real tear jerker how romantic

such nice stories :bawling: I don't have a really nice or romantic proposal story ... we had been together for nearly 6 years before we got married. We had talked about it for a couple of years before. We both made it clear the more serious we got that we were in it for the 'long haul' ;)
We kept talking about making it official for a while but something kept coming up. Plus, I think it wasn't as much of a big deal to him at the time. I was beginning to wonder if he even cared if we ever got married. We were living together and living like we were married, but I wondered if he just wanted to stay that way ... which would have been fine but when I asked, he kept saying he did want to get married so I started getting a little obsessed ;)
Then when his mother passed away, I sort of broke down (I love her like she was my own mother) I was upset that she wouldn't see us get married. Weeks went by and then one day we were talking and he said "So why don't we tell everyone we are getting married at Christmas" I was like, "OK :D" I think I mentioned something like 'Are you sure' and he said "of course" Then he brought up how I wanted to do it near our dating anniversary so we picked the closest weekend and set the date. We sent out announcements in with the Christmas cards.
I think there was a time a few weeks later where we were making plans and I said "You know, you never really 'asked' me" So he pulled me close and said 'So will you be my wife' But the 'proposel' was just kind of silly and pointless by then *wink*
We had a very simple ceremony in our home and went on a cruise to the Bahamas then we had a small reception party a couple of weeks after we got back.
The moment I remember the most from the whole thing is at the end of the ceremony, after we kissed (which was very quick) he hugged me tight and whispered "I Love You Baby" That is the most romanitic moment to me and I will never forget it!

Andy is probably the most shy man I have ever met, so him even proposing was huge. Andy and I had been together 4years, it was the day before our anniversary, and I was at work having a terrible day. I called him and said you need to take me out for a drink tonight or something. So I got home and on the table was a Pink Bunny, with pink roses, and a card for our aniversary, I was so happy, just about the thought he put into my bad day, so I am reading the card, and he is drinking a beer which should of through some sirens off in my head, he never drinks!!!!! So i am reading the most beautiful card and he puts his hand in his pocket and pulls out the box and says here is something else to go with your card, I opened it and could not believe what I was looking at, so at this point I am shocked and he still hasn't said anything, so I looked at him and said "Well you have to ask" and in a voice I could barely hear he said Jen will you marry me, and I sad yes and here we are now!!!! The ring came that day!!!! the company forgot to ship it and Andy had to have it overnighted to our house to make it on time! I cant wait 20months to go!!!!!!!!!:bunny:

In 1978 Hugh took me to his prom. He asked me to go steady on Mount Royal (THE place to be on grad night, to watch the sun come up) and I said no. That was the last I saw of him and we both went on to lead separate (but very similar) lives.
We re-met online 23 years later through a highschool web site that I had started. We shared emails, phone calls and we dated long distance for 8 months before we both moved back to Montreal to live together. We knew that we would get married but, it was just a matter of timing (paperwork & the legal system) - heck, I even had the ring and the dress before the official proposal.
One Friday night, Hugh picked me up at work. He was dressed up and so I knew something was "up". He wouldn't tell me a thing about what his plans were.
We drove into the city and he pulled up at a top notch Montreal hotel. He had packed our bag and brought everything he thought I would need for the weekend. We got to the room and he told me that he had reservations for dinner. He also told me that he had tickets to see the Butterflies Go Free exhibit and I just "knew" that he was going to propose there, surrounded by all the beautiful butterflies (we have a thing for butterflies!). So I let my guard down ...
We had a nice meal in a fancy french restaurant and when the meal was over, he suggested that we take a walk along the main drag. We hadn't gone too far when he suggested that we turn back and go to a bar that he remembered being on the same street as the restaurant.
As we neared the restaurant, a gentleman got out of a limo and said "Mr. H?" and Hugh said "Yes, Mr. George?" With that, we got into the limosine and we were heading towards the mountain. We arrived at the look out point and Hugh suggested another walk.
There we were, the city lights twinkling and bright ..... Hugh got down on one knee and said "Twenty eight years ago I asked you to go steady on this very spot and you said no. I have another question for you tonight and I am hoping that you will say yes. Will you marry me?"
I was expecting the proposal but he still managed to surprise me and I started to bawl. What I didn't expect came next ..... he pulled a ring box out of his jacket and placed it on my other hand! I was so confused ... "what is this?" I asked.
LOL Apparently, he had bought this ring and it was meant to hold the place for the "real" ring that we would shop for together. The thing is .... the week before, we were in a mall in another city when I saw the "real" ring that I wanted. It was perfect, on sale and I wasn't about to leave the mall without it.
He always meant for me to receive two rings .... but just not in the order that ended up giving them to me!

Eric comes to my apartment to pick me up, he rings the door bell...Now I can't figure out why he's doing that, after all he has a key...I run down the steps grumbling something about how he has probably misplaced the key and open the door. There he stands, sun light shining behind him all leaned over in that cowboy way against the door frame. "Good morning Mrs. Vinson," he says. Hmmm....I've heard that before. All I could think about was " whats wrong with him and why is he still leaning on the door?" He steps in and about that time I look down and see the ring in his hand, poor guy...I immediately start jumping up and down and crying and hugging his neck. I'm laughing and crying and dancing around like an idiot...he gently takes my hand and starts to slip the ring on when I (and I swear I didn't mean to do it) curl that left ring finger under and stare at him. He then tells me "here's your ring sweetie," and looks at me with this bewildered expression on his face. I ask, "Is that all you're gonna say," and he starts laughing! "Will you marry me?", he says. Of course I say yes and then realize what I had done and we both start dying laughing...I scared him to death...almost as bad as my father did when Eric called him to ask for his blessing. Dad tells Eric that he "needs a couple of days to think about it"...oh bless his heart!
But as you can see I said yes, Eric has a sense of humor (thank goodness) and Dad was only kidding, he told Eric that he would be "honored" to have him in the family!

Chris always told me he didnt belive in marriage and I was a little put out but I got used to the idea of it then my birthday came along and Chirs picked fights with me all day about stupid little things so I got mad and went into the computer room to relax and be mad by myself I went online and found an email from him and it was a chain letter I was just going to erase till I looked at the bottom and it was a question that he added himself
21. If I asked you marry me would you want to do it now or next year?
I was puzzled so I went to ask him about it and then he proposed. My girl friends all laughed because they call us technology freaks and they say this was the perfect proposal for us!

I was working full time about three weeks before classes started at the college where we attended. It was a Friday (August 12, 2005) and I was on my way home to the apartment where we lived. He wasn't working or anything, so I called him to ask if he was ready to go home (we always drive home to our rents house on the weekends). I said that I was going to stop and get gas, and he told me not to since he hadn't showered yet. Well, I was kind of pissed because I was thinking to myself that he was home all day and still hadn't showered. I kept saying that I was going to get gas since I was already in my car, but he kept insisting that I wait until we are ready to go.
So I go home and when I get to the front door, there is a long red stem rose threaded through the handle of the screen door. When I walk inside, he had turned all of the lights off and the only light was coming from the closed windows and a lit candle, he had our song playing on repeat on the CD player, and there was a path of long stem red roses leading up to where he stood, surrounded by more roses.
When I walked to him, he held my hands (which were freezing because his hands always get cold when he is nervous) and told me that he loved me and some other personal things. He then dropped down to one knee and asked my to marry him, opening the box to a beautiful ring.
Afterwards, he said that I had the "deer in the headlights look" when I came inside! We then went home (after a little bit) and told his parents. The next day we told my parents (they were away on a trip and didn't get back until the next day). Here's a picture of the roses (I had to document them that night!):

It was the day before our anniversary so Kevin decided that we would spend the weekend together and find something that the 2 of us could spend a day doing.
Kevin decided that he wanted to re trace our first day in Niagara falls. Our first date he had invited me to a volkswagon bug show. Kev's a big car guy me not so much but I figured originally it was something that would keep us busy and int he public. (safety first).
So we headed down to the bug show, then after finishing that he took me to the butterfly conservatory in Niagara. We walked the conservatory like 4 tiems till I finally said "ok enough, lets go get some grub!"
On our first date Kevin had suprised me with a picnic lunch. Even baked me cookies. We had found a little marina on the way back to Toronto.
As we had doen the first time we drove into the marina with our cooler of yummies. Only this time I went to get out and the wind coming up fromt eh lake was FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I immediatly jumped back in the car and asked Kev (more like begged him!) if we could eat in the car. Kev said no we needed to go and sit down under the awning liek we had the first tiem to make our day complete. Let me say though... I had on a strapless shirt and a skirt i was cold! I sat down on the cememnt bench hoping that being closer to the fetal position would wam me up a bit. I then asked Kev for a hug cause i was so cold. He got down on one knee and hugged me. I could feel hm shaking but simply thought he was just cold. He then took off his sunglasses, looked me in the eye and said if I'm already down here why not propose to you. I thought he was kidding. I told him to shut up. He then pulled out my Great Gramma's ring (which I hadn't seen since I was a little girl). I had to put it on my dinger cause he was shaking so badly he probably would have broken my finger right off!
I obviously said yes. We hopped back in the car held hands and sped back to Toronto where we could tell our friends and family! The rest is history in the making!

Evan and I had been dating since 2003. We moved in together right after I graduated highschool early in Dec. 2004. We moved into an apartment for 6 months, then started renting a house. It was April 18,2006 (3 days until our 2.5 year anniversary) when he proposed. We had talked about getting married many times before, I knew it would happen that year(2006) but thought maybe he would do it around Christmas time. Well he was putting our dogs leash on to take her outside (already on one knee) and pulled the ring out of his back pocket and asked me to marry him! And i said yes!! I didn't tell my parents for about 2 days after. Then we set the date for over 1 year later....Our 3.5 year anniversary April 21,2007. And its in 2 weeks, and I am so excited and happy it's hard for my to contain myself!! I dream about the wedding and honeymoon every night!

Me and Tony had been dating since high school. In January I was on a girls road trip to Texas. We got lost and I kept calling him and he seemed to get annoyed with me, and I didn't understand what his deal was. (little did I know, he was at the jewelers with his dad and best friend picking out my ring). Right before I had left for Texas, I was asked to be in a bridal show for a wedding expo. Well, for the last year, every holiday or date that we went on, I expected a proposal. So a few weeks later, I was getting ready to go to the expo and asked if I could register for stuff there, even though we weren't engaged yet. And of course he said yes! So after signing up for stuff all morning at the expo and leaving date of wedding blank! I am on stage modeling on of the gowns. I walk down the catwalk, do my little turn and begin to head back up.. when He is suddenly on stage, coming down the cat walk toward me, wearing a white tux and holding a bouquet! At first, I didn't understand what he was doing, "why is he trying to steal my thunder.... get off the stage you fool...." but then he begins to whisper in my ear how much he loves me and such, he gets down on one knee and holds out my gorgeous ring. I was completely in shock. I looked out in the audience to make sure that I wasn't dreaming, and they were all (almost 1000 people) on their feet clapping for us. When we got back stage, I just started crying and he hugged me... by then all the other models were surrounding me to see my ring and hug us.
It was soo awesome, like nothing I would have ever expected!

Umm wow where to start.... It was our 1 yr anniversary and so i was expecting the roses and the candy... On our 1mnth he bought me a long stemmed red rose a bear and a diamond heart necklace, our 2 mnth it was 2 roses and so on... Well our 1 yr is up and i dont have any roses or a phone call... i tried to call him NO ANSWER i was getting really miffed by this time! Well when it got later i started to worry and to get rather aggravated cause he wouldnt return my calls... at 5:30 he calls to tell me i need to be ready and waiting in my driveway at 7:30 so sure enough i am! At 7:30 standing in my driveway a streched rolls royce limo pulls into the driveway and the driver tells me to get in but wont tell me where we are going... Now i know jackson like the back of my hand and when he startes getting into downtown i am a little freaked out! He pulls into a 5 star restaurant and the owner who is a close friend of my family's comes walking out and hands me a rose and tells me my table awaits so i am thinking ok this is a really nice 1 yr dinner.... I go in and Grant is sitting at the table with a bottle of chilled crystale and 11 real roses and 1 silk he gives me the 11 and then gives me the silk and tells me "I will tell you i love u until the last one dies" at this pt i am in tears it was unbelievably sweet... we have an awesome dinner and then he tells me we have to go he has a important meeting so at this time i dont want the night to end... we get into the limo and he blindfolds me! we pull in somewhere he takes my hand and i follow i hear ppl talking and that is it... when he takes the blindfold off i am standing in a jewelry store comparable to tiffany's and he is on one knee and shaking i think i said are u serious and sure like a million times then finally i say yes and he tells me to pick any ring in there! It was unbelievably romantic... its a day i will NEVER forget!
WOW! Its kinda like Sweet Home Alabama.... but better!

Joe and I met on April 6th, 2005. We were together almost 1 1/2 years when he proposed on September 14th, 2006. Here's how he proposed:
We were supposed to go away on vacation that upcoming weekend because it was my parents wedding anniversary. Unfortunatley, Joe's Grandfather passed away that Tuesday :(. The funeral procession was going to take place that weekend so obviosuly, he couldn't go. I was bummed out but totally understood. That Thursday, the night before I was supposed to leave, he wanted to come over. He kept asking me when my parents were coming home, which I kind of found strange but didn't really put anything into it. I saw my parents pulling in and Joe said he was here and was going to talk to them before he came in. Once again, strange but I didnt say anything. They all came in together and everyone was acting normal. My mom suggested we go get some coffee at Dunkin Donuts so we said OK and went. We get there and now we usually go to the drive through window but this time he wanted to go in so they dont mess the order up. I ordered a Tea. He comes back 10 min. later, which I thought was very long for 4 coffees. So, he starts telling me how much he loved me and all that good stuff then after that, he points at my coffee cup. Now, remember, I ordered Tea and I didnt see a tea bag hanging out of the side so I got mad....LOL All he said to me was, "just pick up the cup". So I picked and up and I felt that something was in it and it wasnt coffee. I opened up the top and saw a ring box in the cup. At that point, I kinda knew what was going on and started to cry. So, he asked me to marry him, ofcourse I said yes but didn't even look at the ring yet. He opened up the box and I saw the most beautiful ring. It's a heart shaped diamond and thats what I always wanted because my birthday is on Valentine's Day. It has baguettes and small diamonds on both sides, it's to die for!

Yea, it was really great. Since it was a wedding expo.. tons of photographers were there. They all sent me a cd of pics of the proposal, in hopes that I would chose them for the wedding! I'm so glad I was able to document my memories!!

Back in December of last year, Jason & I celebrated our 1 year anniversary on 12-5-06. By that time, we had been discussing marriage for about 6 months, because we had already moved in together and my daughters adored him as much as I did. It was like he was meant for us and he fit into our family and it was so natural, really.
Earlier in the year Jason had me look at engagement rings online and he kind of got a feel for the style that he liked, but we had A LOT going on in our lives and even though I just knew we'd be getting married in the future, I really had no idea how soon it would come up.
For Christmas, we were driving from Tampa to Pensacola to spend the holiday with his family and that meant my daughters would be meeting them for the first time. We had to leave at about 5am on Christmas Eve to keep our schedule, but at that time I lived in Tampa and Jason was commuting from the other side of Florida for his job. He would be with me three days a week, and he would be in Ft. Lauderdale the rest of the week. It was rough not being able to see him every day.
Anyway, he was driving back to Tampa from Ft. Lauderdale so we could all leave and make the trip to Pensacola, and he ended up working really late and didn't get home until about 3am on the day we were supposed to leave. I was sound asleep when he got home and I didn't even hear him come in!
So, he gets in and wakes me up and he's down on the floor next to my side of the bed. He's got a big bouquet of gerbera daisies, which are my favorite, and he just tells me that he missed me and that he loves me. And then he says, "Are you going to love me forever?"
I was like, OF COURSE I AM!! Why are you waking me up at 3am to ask me that??? And what's with the flowers??? I gave him a kiss and tried to roll over to go back to sleep and he says "What's wrong with your finger?" And I'm like "HUH?? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??"
And I look at my hands and in the dark, I see a ring on my ring finger....
I was like HOLY ****, what is going on???? He had put the engagement ring on my finger while I was still sleeping. He turns on the light, and while he's still down on the floor he takes my hands and asks me to marry him.
I just hugged him, and didn't say anything for a long time. I was so choked up, I couldn't even answer him! Finally, I said YES!
But then, after the excitement, I was like "How are you going to propose at 3am, and you didn't even let me wake up and get cute for you or anything? Plus, I had morning breath! ha ha ha ha He said, I love you no matter what you look like!
So far, that has been the best day of my whole life...

We were in Alaska for a vacation after I graduated college last May. we were on this GORGEOUS beach, the weather was warm, we could see Mt. Mckinley in the back and we were just sitting on a log and I turned to him and said "This is perfect, I couldn't be happier" I never wanted to leave. He then jumped up, said he had to pee and ran allt he way back to car. I was like uhhh OK. So I just sat there looking around and walking near the water. He came back and asked if we could go sit on some rocks. I was like uhh OK. So I got up on this HUGE rock and he gave me a package it was a charm and I said thank you and looked at the scenery. He goes "Read it" I started to read it and I do not remember getting to the end, all I read was "Will you..." Then goes "Marry me" He had this gorgeous ring in his hand and I hugged him. Less then a year later, here we are newlyweds!
