Anyone know of a good (and free) program that will let you zip files to send via email and such?
There is someone on my computer already that allows me to open/expand zip files sent to me, but I have no way to send my own zip files.
I use to have JustZipIt, but lost it when my computer crashed a while back and now I can't seem to find it.

You can use WinRAR. It will "expire" after like 30 days or something, but you can still keep using it. The only reason to pay for it is to get the annoying little message to go away, but it still has all the functionality.

I will check out the WinRAR then, thanks :)
I don't think WinZip is free, at least all the newer versions I found were like $25 or more.

You still have a website don't you? Upload the file to the site and then send the link. You can remove it afterwards :)

So with the WinRAR, will the recipient need to have that too or can they just open the file with whatever they have?

You can choose to zip them as either RAR files or ZIP files. If you choose RAR, then they will need WinRAR or another program that reads RAR files, but if you choose ZIP, they can use any program that reads ZIPs (such as WinZip).

I didn't think of it either ... DH suggested it once when I was trying to get a large file to a distributor :)

I got the WinRAR thing and sent the zip file and put it on my website too. I got the email with the zip (still large 8MB) file back undelivered; I have yet to get word that they got the email with the web link.

A free website I use for sending files is www.yousendit.com (http://www.yousendit.com/?home=true). You can send files up to 100 MB for free and I use it quite frequently for sending image files to clients...
Sorry I'm no help on the zipping thing - I have a PC and can just right click on the file and it gives me the option to "send to compressed" which zips it for me - dunno if that is just a windows feature or software FH put on there for me...
