Can someone please explain to me exactly what this is and what goes on them? I had an idea but I dont know if its technically right... I got 2 referigerator magnet sheets and I thought Id put part of the wedding info on a business card program so that they can be cut down and sent in the invitations. Will that work?

They usually get sent out about 6-9 months before the wedding. It is to give guests a heads up so they can keep that date open and start ot make travel plans. I sent mine out at the 9 month mark because we have a lot of people traveling in over a holiday weekend. I did magnets too. They had our names, wedding date, and location of the event. Then on a seperate note I listed our website info so that guests could check in and the hotel room information so they could get a room resesrved at the block price.

Here is what mine looked like:

Wow, that was quick! Thanks. And those are beautiful!!! If the wedding is small, and informal, could they just go in the invitations as a little keepsake/reminder?

If its real small and intimate, like with just close friends and family, I wouldnt even bother with them. Thats how mine is and EVERYBODY knows our wedding date because we see them all the time. It would have just been a waste of money. If you want to have your names and wedding date as a keepsake, you could do you favors with that info on them.

Since the wedding is going to be small, I wouldn't wate the time on them. Maybe just send out a save the date email. But you could still use the magnets as a favor, just don't put save the date on them.

I'm not doing save the date cards even though my wedding is not small or informal. Everyone says I should because my wedding is on a holiday weekend (December 30) and I have guests from out of town and from states as far away as Washington and Pennsylvania. I've done a lot of save the date phone calls!

We had been planning on sending out STD cards, but since we are right tight on money, we decided not to. Most of our guest know about it already so we should be ok. We are just going to send out invites out a little earlier instead. Probably about 2 months before.

I agree if your wedding is going to be small and intimate or if you are on a tight budget not to worry with save the dates.

I like the magnets, I have also seen post cards more recently and I like those too :D

I wanted to make save the date magnets but with alot of HIS family not knowing till Feb. it was senseless by then to do them. But no big deal. It is kind of new to me. When I got married in '98 I never heard mention of them.

A lot of the ladies here explained it quite well-- along with some stories you maybe able to identify with. They are typically sent to OOT, especially if you are having a lot of them or if it is over the holiday weekend. Personally, I appreciate them, because they are more concrete than a phone call or email. I never know where I will be in the country at any given time, so I appreciate having a heads up so that I can make travel arrangements, choose between lodging, etc. If you have an intimate close family, phone calls are great :) If your guests are very tech savvy, choose a cool e-vite. STDs aren't as formal as invitations, so they do not have to be elaborate. You can have fun making them on your own. Look for specials too-- for example, VistaPrint is having a sale, giving away 100 postcards for free :)

I love e-vites and I love VistaPrint too ... I use both alot ;)

OK, now the 'OOT' is a new one to me, what does that mean? *I know I will feel feel stupid when you tell me*

Hi everyone! I hope it is ok for me to post a reply to this message. I am only a mother of the bride and not the bride herself. I love reading about all you girls upcoming weddings. Congratulations & good luck! I wanted to share with you our experience with the save the date magnet. I hope the picture comes out ok. I just now took it with my camera phone. This is our actual magnet for my daughter Amber & Jason's wedding in September. We received so many positive replys back from them. Everyone said how cute they were and how they have them on their refrigerators. http://pictures.sprintpcs.com/mmps/RECIPIENT/000_01b785703096119e_1/2.jpg?partExt=.jpg&limitsize=3300&&outquality=90&ext=.jpg&border=2,255,255,255,1,0,0,0,0

Try uploading your picture onto www.photobucket.com then you can post the image link on here. That is how we all tend to do it. It will only take you a second ot set up the photobucket account.

Thank you, Lacey, for verifying you could see it now. I wasn't entirely sure if I did it right or not.
