View Full Version : My visit to the chiropractor
I had an appointment with a chiropractor today. We were very thankful that the first visit as well as all of the xrays he took today were free. Isn't that great? I told him that my pain was in my neck, shoulder, and arm. He got up and traced along exactly where it was hurting. I was surprised. He pressed on the three points where it's hurting the worst. Unfortunately it isn't a pinched nerve. He's thinking that it's my actual muscles. He says that he sometimes hears of an issue like mine where the pain is sudden in exactly those spots along three overlapping muscles. It's caused by a long term issue that just hasn't manifested itself before. Fun. :snide:
The massage therapist worked it out a little while and she said that my muscles were incredibly tight. It felt a little better afterwards, but wow did it hurt when she was doing it!
I have an appointment tomorrow morning to look at the x-rays and I'll report back!

Hopefully, it will all work out.
Have you thought about going to an MD for this issue?

good luck! come back with good news! *crossing fingers*
Well, it turns out that the vertebrae in my neck are curved. It has been gradually happening and has been causing additional pressure on my neck and shoulders to hold my head up. There are some signs of pre-arthritis on my neck vertebrae because of the extra pressure. The treatment will stop any progression of the arthritis. I'll be going in for treatment 3 times a week until I have less pain, then once a week, then once a month, and then I'll have to go in a few times a year forever so it doesn't curve back. Just like not wearing a retainer and your teeth eventually get screwed up again.
They did the treatment today and I am already in less pain. I haven't been able to sleep so I came home and took a nap. I laid on some foam things (I'm so technical, I know!) to stretch things out. Then a massage therapist gave me a massage pressing on my trigger points. OMG It hurt so bad. I was just praying and praying the whole time. Then the chiropractor popped my neck, back, etc. I was freaked out because it was so loud! He warned me about how it was going to be, but it was still alarming to me. Anyways, I already feel better and am so thankful that I had this pain because it least it caught something that would have turned into a much larger problem.
By the way, during the wedding I thought that the dress strap on my right side was shorter than the other strap. It was annoying me. Well, it turns out that my muscles were getting irritated and tighter and causing my shoulder to raise up, but it wasn't really noticeable. I see it all so clearly now! LOL
I probably won't be going to a regular MD. I'll go to a naturopath or a holistic practitioner if I need to. I believe in complimentary medicine which combines ancient healing practices with modern medicine. Harvard actually has one of the largest complimentary medicine programs in the country and my dad's doc graduated from there so I'll go to him if needed.
I just got back from an hour long complimentary massage at the chiropractor.
Heaven! :grinhappy:

Ooh, I'm jealous... I've never gotten a professional massage. Maybe that should be on my have-to-do-on-the-honeymoon list!

Dave Matthews wife? Nu-uh! LOL That is so crazy. My family doesn't consider them MDs even though they do have the credentials. :snide: Because our small town 80 year old doctor is a genius, obviously. Hah. Open minds, open hearts. :grinhappy:

Yesss! Do it. I so wish that we would have done that on our honeymoon. A couple's one would have been awesome. We've decided it's a must for our next anniversary when we have the money to do something nice.
It was my first massage. I was a little nervous at first, but then I relaxed.
