Do pregnant women really grave weird stuff like pickles and ice cream?

Anyone with kids, what sort of cravings did you have when you were pregnant?

I had no cravings for either pregnancy* but I believe it when women claim to have had them. With that said, I don't think I would have made anyone go out at 3 am to find me food to satisfy the craving.

*I would have killed for a nice glass of wine from time to time :)

Aaaaaaaaagreed! I'm a big wine-lover, so it was kind of rough to sit around and watch all of my friends and family sipping wine (or drinking Margaritas at my baby shower...I LOVE MARGARITAS! At least someone was enjoying them though, lol).

One thing I started craving during pregnancy was mint. Anything mint I could get my hands on. The biggest thing was Ben & Jerry's Mint Chocolate Cookie ice cream. Holy Lord. I'd buy 5 little containers of it on Saturday and I'd eat a pint a night. Thankfully I ate pretty healthy other than that, but man, I was unstoppable.

However, I still crave mint really bad every once in a while, so it may have just been me, not the pregnancy, lol. Thankfully, I'll go to the store at 3 am and won't make my FH do it.

I never had any craving while pregnant. Actually I never knew what I wanted to eat while pregnant. I would take me forever to decide what to make for dinner or lunch.

I only wanted to eat Wendy's cheeseburgers for a LONG time. That's also when I started eating their fries with their sweet and sour sauce. YUMMY!

Yeah, if I recall correctly, FH was working at Wendy's, so I got helplessly addicted to their sour cream and chive baked potatoes. I almost forgot about that.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I craved corn dogs and meatball sandwiches. My mom and I would go at like 2 in the morning to the 7-11 that literally was a 3 minute drive from the house and would get so many snacks. It was insane.

I remember waking up with wrappers in bed and on my chest because I would keep things like Nutri-grain bars on the night stand, and in the middle of the night I would half asleep open one, eat it, and fall back asleep HAHAHAHAH.

When I was pregnant with my daughter my cravings were pizza and chocolate milkshakes. Do you know how hard it is find a milkshake during the winter? I managed though and had one every day. I also craved pasta salad which was funny b/c I never like it but I ate it and still do.

I did not have any cravings. I believe some women MAY have cravings, I can tell you, when I had a thought in my head though, I did HAVE to have it then. Yet, it was always so random like a tamale, or spaghetti. Not "CRAVINGS" though.

You can also get sort of "anti-cravings", making you never want to eat something again after you have the baby. My mom used to love black olives, but when she was pregnant with me I made her so sick whenever she ate them that to this day she cannot touch black olives. What's funny is that I love them.

Mom, what you like to eat when you pregnant?

I guess its just like a silly question. But i like to ask anyone in this forum. Did your mother or you (who are pregnant right now) asking something 'special to eat' when pregnant?

My mom asking my father want to eat "soap'. Its crazy right?? HOho. But my father never give it to my mother and my mother crying. When i heard from my mother, i laugh a lots. Hoho..its because it happen when my mother pregnant me. :irked:

So, how about your experience, mom?? :grinhappy:

This sounds like something known as "Pica"; a craving to eat inedible items like; paper, dirt, soap, etc ... From what I understand it is not all that uncommon in pregnant women and may indicate some sort of nutritional deficiency.

My sister craved Taco Bell a lot when she was pregnant with my sister. I don't remember anything my mom saying she craved with me.

Thats why i feel weird. Did you know its happen or its just another symptoms of pregnant?

From what little I've read about Pica, they don't really know what causes it or if it is hereditary or not. I would talk to your Dr about it if you are worried.

With my first I had to have Lucky Charms every morning. With my second I had to force myself to eat as I didn't want anything. With the last I had to have alot of fruit. I even made DH pay like $5 for rasberries cause I just HAD to have them. I also had to have spinash one night. I could not get enough of it. I believe you crave soemthing your body needs.

With my first I never craved anything. I never ate anything that would stay down the whole 9 months. I actually LOST 30 something pounds while I was pregnant. (thankfully I am a big girl! HAHA) With my daughter I wanted taco bell all the time. I would stop there on my way to work everyday and get 3 tacos. And with my youngest I craved klondike bars all the time. Shesh! You would think I could crave something a little less expensive. And for a little while I craved scrambled egg and fried bologna sandwiches with mayo on them. EWWW!!!! I don't care for egg and I despise bologna. But it tasted soooo good! LOL!!!!

I had them for my baby shower too.

Also, weirdly I love the smell of gas, but when I was pregnant I loved it even more. I would get excited when I was on E. haha.:bbeek:

Well, I don't have any kids, as I had a miscarriage, but while I was pg, I wanted to eat Fried Shrimp, which is funny because I don't eat ANY kind of shrimp. But that's what I wanted. After my miscarriage, I never wanted to eat it again! Weird!

As i said Before i had two miscarriages..
Apparently my PCOS was killing them.. Something in my blood..

But my First one i Craved big juicy greasy burgerking bacon cheeseburgers.
&& Chips dipped in Katcup.

Second i craved Lays Chips with M&M's. Together. Like eat a couple chips then a couple M&Ms over and over agian.

It was weird.

I was sick all threw 3 months of my first and 3 months, 3 weeks, and 2 days of my second.

I wouldnt go out of the house.
If i smelled cigarette smoke i would throw up none stop for hours.
Same with someone passing gas.
I couldn't sleep.
FH took me to the doctor to get sleeping meds. bc i would be up for days at a time.

Well I am 36 1/2 weeks pg right now.

I never really craved anything for long periods of time. I would basically crave something for a day and then the next I would be on to something else. Like some days all I wanted was pickles. Others chocolate pudding (which I normall hate). Then a couple weeks down the road I would have another craving for pickles. And some days pickles sounded horrible to me. Idk.. it was weird to me.

This drives FH crazy because we never seem to have what I'm craving and he can never suprise me with something not knowing if I'd want it that day.

I don't know if you would call it a craving, but when I was pregnant with my son I would eat chili cheese burritos and strawberry milkshakes all the time. And peanut butter straight out of the jar.
