Ladies I have to admit I was a little nervous about getting married in the caribbean. But let me tell you all my fears where unconfimred! We had a blast. everyone had such a good time. Instead of a wedding day we had a wedding week. Everyone came down for 5 days so it was like a vacation for everyone not just a wedding.
We had about 60 guests in all and the whole wedding cost less than $7000.00 for everything. We'll not everything we had save the day cards and invitations seperate along with my dress, but the whole actual wedding was taken care of by a top notch wedding coordinator!
If your considering St. Thomas....DO IT!
Hugs!
Tiffany!

Where in St. Thomas did you get married? I will be married there next August. So far, my planner has been awesome! I'd love to hear details of your event!

Just psyched for my wedding there next year. Planning for a wedding from afar is a challenge- looking for as much feedback as possible. Are you a Destination Bride as well?

We get alot of spam related to DWs so it is hard not to get a little suspicious when new people come on and that is all they talk about; especially when they dig up old posts on the subject.

My apologies if I stepped any toes- blame it on me being a newbie. I guess I can see your point (too green to even think of the spam thing...sorry). I did a search on St. Thomas threads once I signed up. I truly am just looking for feedback on our location choice, etc... I think it is a good thing to be part of a chat where people to do look out for those things!

No biggie; just letting you know where the comment above probably came from ;)
It might help if you post an introduction and tell us a little about your plans :)
Looking forward to seeing you around more :grinhappy:

I'm just starting to look into planning a destination wedding and how much it would cost vs. having one here with my entire family... Was hoping to find more info regarding rates that you guys have come across? I've found the internet to be of limited usage and when I e-mail places they haven't gotten back to me... I'm particularly interested in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the USVI and the Cayman Islands...

AWESOME! Pics, pics, pics!!!!!!!! I lived in St. Thomas/St. John for 4 months and I absolutely LOVE IT there. I bet your wedding was beautiful! I'm getting married on the beach in Mexico in 3 months!!! :) I CAN'T WAIT! Did you do a TTD??? (Trash the dress) I can't agree more about the cost. It's DEFINETELY cheaper than having a wedding at home.

Barcelona, if you don't mind my asking, how many guests are you having at your wedding?
Did you use a wedding planner or a travel agent?

I'm having 25 guests. I have a WC here in Colorado who is absolutely FABULOUS! She's been coordinating everything with the WC in Mexico, so I don't have to worry about a thing. Planning has been completely relaxing and stress-free.

That sounds like my kind of wedding planning experience lol!!! I'm determined to not become one of those brides whose planning experience is so stressful & painful that they just want to "get it over with"!
I'll probably have more like 60 guests and I'm still trying to find a planner around here (NJ) to get started finding a place in the Caribbean!
Just wondering, so far in my research places I'm interested in seem to only offer packages that include a cake/coffee/cocktails kind of reception... Are you having a formal sit-down or buffet style reception for your wedding?
I see it's only 3 months away, you must be so excited!

I think the original poster is asking for advice because she's planning a destination wedding, and hasn't actually had one yet?:bbquestion:

We are having a full-blown wedding ceremony/reception/cake/garter toss, 1st dances etc. We are getting married and having the reception directly on the beach. It's a 4 course Surf n' Turf dinner with Creme' Brule and Wedding cake for dessert. I am stoked yes!!!!! Finding a good WC is key! ;) Good luck to you! If you have questions or are interested in any resorts in Mexico, I have pics of the Barcelo Maya Palace, Dreams Cancun, and Dreams Tulum. :)

That's exactly what I want, full blown wedding but with fewer guests than I would kind of be "forced" to have in the states... I haven't actually thought about Mexico yet at all... I'd love some pics to get a better idea!
Ok, another question: What is your dress like?
I have a dress I was planning to wear (yes I know you shouldn't buy a dress before you plan the wedding but it's a long story lol!) but it's pretty formal, an anne barge dress with a decent length train, beading etc...
I absolutely love the dress but now that I'm looking to plan a DW I'm not sure it would be appropriate??? I know I probably want to have my ceremony in a church wherever we go, and I was leaning towards PR or DR, but every dress I see when people are talking DW is sort of more sexy, straight simple silhouettes than gown-ish...
Your thoughts?

I was planning to have a destination wedding in St. Thomas (we postponned, and have just recently cancelled the wedding altogether). I had an incredible planner though! Very well spoken of (checked with many girls for references) Janelle at Island Bliss was reasonable, had many 'different' wedding themes available )I was to be married on a secluded beach and hae he reception on a 65' sailboat to St. John). Best of all, she was so responsive. I always had a reply to even the smallest questions in a day! If you want more information- let me know!
