I don't know if a thread like this one already exists, but since FH and I love watching movies, I wanted to start a thread where we could discuss new movies that we see, movies we'd like to see, what we thought of them, etc.
For instance, last weekend we watched Eragon and Nativity Story. Eragon was okay, but I really liked Nativity Story. I love that girl from Whale Rider (which is also an amazing movie, btw). I'm not religious in any way, shape or form, but I love studying religion and learning about it, and even though I knew the general story of the birth of Jesus, I learned a lot about the specifics. It's obviously not a movie for everyone, but if it is something you'd be interested in seeing, I thought it was a very well-done movie.
:cloppy:
Good idea! I haven't seen either of those. My family raved about Nativity Story, but they annoy me with their religious supperiority so I didn't pay any attention to them. Hehe. Shame on me! I'll give it a try now!
I saw Made of Honor with the family for Mother's Day weekend. It was funny and cute at some points, but I didn't care for it all that much. I guess I'm getting tired of the stereotypical movies. On the other hand, I saw Vantage Point the other day and loved it. Interesting plot, interesting film style, and I love Forrest Whitaker.

Well, FH dragged me to Ironman a week or two ago... and I actually REALLY enjoyed it. Other good (not new) ones I've seen lately are Fracture with Anthony Hopkins and Deja Vu with Denzel Washington. Both good, interesting.

We have the Blockbuster Total Access thing, so we rent a ton of movies (but rarely go to the theatre)....
Here's how I would rate the last few we've seen:
4.5 stars - Juno, Gone Baby Gone
4 stars - The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Cloverfield, Sweeney Todd, Enchanted
3 stars - The Savages, Atonement

We just went to Blockbuster last night and rented:
*Cloverfield
*The Golden Compass
*Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom
I wanted to rent Juno, but FH said NO!

Recent movies I love:
Cloverfield
All the Indiana Jones Movies (I CANNOT wait for the new one)
No Country for Old Men
American Gangster
The Golden Compass
BTW-Did anyone else get the little paper in your Sunday paper (I can't remember what it's called) with Shia Lebouf and Harrison Ford in it, with the center pic of Shia? And did anyone else save it? I drool over him!

I liked 'No Country For Old Men' too, but FH and a few other people I've talked to didn't. I thought it was good. Then again, I think anything the Coen Brothers touch turns to gold. The Big Lebowski is my ALL-TIME FAVOURITE!!!

Also, did anyone see 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford'? I LOVED that movie! But I think I was the only one, lol.

I just saw Iron Man as well.. I thought it was going to be corny.. But i LOVED it!! They did a REALLY good job with the story! It helped i had friends telling me what happened in the actual comics, etc, while we were watching it!
Hopefully we will go see Speed Racer tomorrow.. Heh heh.
Oh oh, and Chronicles of Narnia this weekend!! i am SUPER excited about that!

So Blockbuster is sending us:
*King Of Beggars
*The Queen
*The Good Shepherd
Has anyone seen any of these? Are they any good?

I LOVE the old Indiana Jones films! Dunno if I'm going to see this new one, however. I thought the first three were good enough and didn't warrant a fourth--especially since Mr. Ford is over 60 now.
Regardless...I hope all those who plan on watching enjoy it. :)
Lately we've been watching a lot of movies, thanks to digital cable and a DVR:
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Ratatouille
Open Season
Surf's Up
...note the pattern of animated films. My FH loves the cute stuff (one of the things I love about him). All four were simply hilarious. My fave among them was definitely Ratatouille (being a rodent lover and an avid Food Network fan). Alvin and the Chipmunks came in a close second. That was so CUTE!
So Blockbuster is sending us:
*King Of Beggars
*The Queen
*The Good Shepherd
Has anyone seen any of these? Are they any good?
Nope I haven't seen any of them, but they look really wonderful, quality films and I can't wait to hear what you think about them! :D
We went to the dollar theatre today. Well, it's $1.50 to be exact! It's a nice little theatre that's cleaner than any AMC I've been to in a while. I'm very impressed with that little place. Anyways, we saw The Other Boleyn Girl. We both thought it was excellent! I thought every aspect of the movie was brilliantly done including the acting, costume, set design, etc. Two thumbs up. :D

Just got back from seeing speed racer earlier today.. It was REALLY corny, but oh so fun to watch. :D Plus they played the Japanese theme song in the credits.. LOL!

Who's in The Other Boleyn Girl? It sounds like a movie I'd want to see, but for some reason I remember kind of not wanting to see it. Then again, maybe FH shot me down every time I tried to see it, lol.

The last ones we went to in the theater were Iron Man and Horton Hears a Who. We both love the cute animations, and the super hero movies. Iron Man was one of Jon's favorite super heroes so we HAD to go. And he really doesn't have to convince me at all :D It was amazing! Any of you that went better have stayed through the credits for the hidden scene! Horton was also adorable...I'm a big Seuss fan and grew up with the old one.
We have Netflix as well and don't laugh...but we've been getting the old Rambo movies, starting with First Blood. I was surprised it wasn't anything like I thought it was going to be and I really liked it. The second one is a bit bloodier but more true to the old 80's action genre. I now can't wait til the most recent one comes out on DVD.
Saw Sweeney Todd recently. Wasn't as good as I hoped, but still good, and Johnny did well.
Oh! almost forgot, the one that wound up being better than I thought. And it surprised me how much FH liked it....Chuck & Larry. Very cute!

Secondhand Lions was fantastic.
And of course if you're not very Politically Correct, and like odd humor, you'll love Blazing Saddles.
And of course, who can forget Tombstone. Kurt Russel as Wyatt Hearp, and Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday.... yummmmm

Scarlett Johannsen, Eric Bana, and Natalie Portman were the only people I recognized in the movie. All three of which I love! I take that back - I did recognize a few pther faces, but I can't place their names.
We watched The Reaping last night. It was definitely a good vs evil movie and it kept you guessing right up until the end!
We also watched Fast Food Nation for the second time this afternoon and I just looove that movie. Of coarse, it may have something to do with the subject matter! :D

Oh, I love Scarlet Johannsen. I wonder why I haven't seen it yet. I'm off to add it to my Blockbuster Queue.
And FH made me shut off Fast Food Nation half way through. He really hated it. I wasn't huge on it either. It was really depressing. But I guess that was the point, huh? lol.

Haha...Yeah I guess it kinda is! I think it kinda revs me up for all of my "causes" in life. It's a popular movie among the nutrition students at school. We're nerds! :D

I finally saw Juno last night. I loved it! I know the plot between her and the married guy is kind of implausible, but it was so funny. And the end is so sad, I was holding back tears.:sob: I think I'll watch it again without FH!

-You and Me and Everyone We Know - very interesting. I was surprised that FH even liked it! If you've seen it, the "back and forth" part, although pretty gross, was so cute from the little boy! :grinhappy:
-27 Dresses - I thought it was cute. Predictable, but cute.

So, we watched Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom last night...I didn't like it! I totally thought I would! It was really bad. The chick was so annoying, the acting was horrible, and the plot couldn't hold my interest. I ended up wandering around the house looking for stuff to do until it was over.

Okay, so we saw quite a few movies this weekend. We'd worked in the yards both Saturday and Sunday, so we were too exhausted to do anything but watch movies by the time it got dark.
The first one was P.S. I Love You. It was cute. It definitely had some funny moments, but it was definitely a chick flick. I'm normally not big on chick flicks, but this one was fairly tolerable.
Then, I watched Sweeney Todd with my Mom. It was the second time I'd seen it. Now, I'm the biggest Tim Burton fan ever, and I LOVE all of his other gothic-style movies, but I wasn't crazy about Sweeney Todd. It had some cute parts, but overall, it was too dark and creepy. I like his lighthearted gothic movies (Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, etc.), but this one was too gory. Not to mention I didn't like the music. I realize it was a musical before and there wasn't a whole lot of variations he could have put on it, but I'm a HUGE Danny Elfman fan (who did the music for almost all of his other films), so I was disappointed when I realized it wasn't Danny Elfman's music in the movie.
Anyway, then we caught the last few minutes of 'Let's Go To Prison'. I was surprised, it was actually really funny! We kept putting off renting it because it looked stupid, but the last few minutes were cracking us up! Now I think we're gonna need to rent it to catch the first half, lol.
Then last night we watched Cloverfield. I kept seeing it at Blockbuster, but since the only description of the movie was that 'it was a thriller from such and such director', I avoided getting it. Well, we finally decided to rent it, and it was like a Blair Witch-style home video of this group of teens trying to get out of Manhattan while this creature is attacking the city. It was interesting, but it lacked so much! The plot, the character development, the acting...it was all just kind of...empty. I guess that's really the best way to describe it, at the end of the movie, I just felt empty. I knew I should have felt more because we were supposed to be feeling emotions throughout the movie (the heroism of the main characters, feeling sad when certain characters died, etc.), but I just didn't. I think the only thing that made it tolerable was the narrator cracking jokes. Most of them were lame jokes at that, but a few of them were funny.
...at least Blair Witch Project hired decent actors.
Then I fell asleep watching The Golden Compass. What I saw of it was really good! Joe and I had been complaining that we kept renting these fantasy movies that would turn out really dark and depressing and nothing like the previews had implied (i.e. Pan's Labyrinth, Bridge To Terabithia, etc.). I remember telling Joe (right before I fell asleep), this movie is exactly what I was hoping those other movies would be! I'm gonna go home and finish it tonight.

I went and saw Narnia the other day.. SO GOOD! They changed a lot of stuff from the book, but they still kept the important parts and feelings.. And morals and stuff. I was SUPER impressed! :D Almost cried during parts.. But that could just be bob coming on later this month.. XD**

FH and I watched Untraceable last night. I liked it, but the opening scene made me really sad, and it was tough to watch the people dying. I guess I hate that part of movies, because it always makes me think that stuff like that really does happen... and then I get all freaked out and make FH go before me down the hall to turn on the lights and lock the windows! :grinhappy:

Ohhh I want to see that movie. I love Colin Hanks. He's great, but how can the spawn of Tom Hanks not be wonderful? :D After Chad and I watch a scary move we are attached at the hip! And let me tell ya, it's not just because I'm scared! LOL My "man" is a big fat baby sometimes...and it's adorable!

So, I allowed FH and our friend Mike to pick out movies at Blockbuster last night. BIG MISTAKE! Last time I allowed them to do this they came back with some atrocious B-list vampire movie. Well, this time they came home with Bulletproof Monk. It was so lame! About the only decent thing in it was Chow Yun-Fat or whatever his name is. Everything else about it was terrible. I can't believe that Sean William Scott as a Shaolin Monk wasn't enough to make them think twice about it, lol. And to make it worse, Mike had seen it before and said it was really good! I almost slapped him.
But they did also rent Juno for me, so maybe we'll watch that tonight to get the bad taste of Bulletproof Monk out of my mouth.

So we went to see the new Indiana Jones movie, and it was wonderful! I really enjoyed it, Harrison Ford really looked good, and Shia was AWESOME! The end leaves it open to either of them coming back for the next movie, so it should be neat to see what they do. If you like the first ones, be sure to go!:detective:(close enough!)
I've been hearing several people rave about Indy. We'll have to check it out when it hits Neflix! P.S. I Love You just got in from Netflix. I've already seen it, but I want to watch it with Chad. :grinhappy: We watched a documentary online yesterday called Earthlings. Joaquin Phoenix narrarated it and Moby did the soundtrack. It's about the exploitation of animals in the food, entertainment, medical, and fashion industry. I literally had to make myself watch the whole thing and not turn it off. Life changing though.

Yeah, we saw Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull (or whatever it's called) on Friday. I really liked it (much better than The Temple of Doom), but a lot of the other people I saw it with were disappointed. They said 'it had aliens in it. It was just too weird. And corny.' It's like 'It's Indiana Jones! It's supposed to be corny!' I liked it though. And I love Cate Blanchette.

So, I'm really excited, Blockbuster just emailed me to let me know that they're sending 2 discs of the first season of 'Are You Afraid Of The Dark?'. Do you guys remember this show?! The Nickelodeon one?! I LOVED those. Quite honestly though, I'm probably gonna have to watch them when the suns still up cause they used to scare the **** out of me, lol.
Anyway, we recently saw 'National Treasure II'. It was really good! It was just a fun movie, much like Indiana Jones, but I really liked it. :D

Are you afraid of the dark was my FAVORITE show when I was little! I am sooooo jealous!
I saw Young People F***ing this weekend. It sounds perverted and horrible but it was a really witty, smart and funny look at sex in 5 different situations, The friends, the couple, the exes, the first date and the roomates. It is a Canadian made film and won top honors at the Toronto Film Festival. I would recommend it for anyone looking for an intelligent laugh!

Okay, we need to start a new thread about the shows we watched growing up. My daughter is into Goosebumps now. How about "You Can't do that on Television"?! Was that not the coolest show?
