I am trying to figure out how this works. I have not been to a traditional Catholic wedding. We're going to have one ourselves... but something leaves me puzzled.
I understand that it is a wedding, in the middle of Mass, but what I don't understand, is where would my FH and I be during the readings? Standing up with the priest in the formation of our bridal party? Or sitting down with our families until called upon by the priest? I must sound newbish, but I can't find any sites online helpful to planning.
I do meet with the priest to sign paperwork on Monday (5/19) so we'll see how that goes :D
Thanks for help in advance.. Anything about catholic weddings would be appreciated.

Are you Catholic or your FH? Do you attend Mass together?
During the readings, you may either stand, sit, or kneel at the front (facing the Eucharist/front of the church) at the foot of the altar. Some churches have stairs that leads to the alter. You may stand on the stairs or the foot of the stairs. Father should be able to answer your questions.
However, do not be suprised if the priest tells you that the detailes can be worked out at a later date. The priest's main concern is your marriage, not so much your wedding day. Do not be frustrated with this. If you stressing out about it, you may always call the church office and schedule a meeting if the "church lady" who will be able to answer all your questions.
Congratulations on your upcoming Sacrament of Marriage.
Also, if you have any other questions, I am Catholic and have gone throught it. It is one of the most amazing Graces God bestows. Enjoy it.

I just had a Catholic wedding on 4-26. We (my husband and I) sat/stood up on the altar by the priest. the wedding party is only up there for a short time. Around here, thats how I have always seen it done. All I had to do regarding the Catholic portion was pick out the readings, music, and blessing of the rings that we wanted. The priest will give you all the details at rehearsal about when to stand, etc. Its not really anything you have to plan for. You should get a book with the readings from him. I can email you my program if that helps you see where you need to have music, etc.

We're having a catholic wedding (on Sat!). I'm a little confused why you're having a Catholic wedding if you aren't familiar with them at all. Is your FH Catholic?
We'll be sitting down at the front (on the altar) for most of the ceremony, except the Rite of Marriage.

My FH and I are both Catholic. I have only been to one wedding, period, it wasn't a catholic wedding, and I was very young and don't remember much. I'm just trying to get an idea from other brides who have been through it.
I've been through Sunday mass plenty of times, I just don't want to feel like the most special time of my day is wasting by sitting down in the crowd. I think I'll ask father if we can stand together in the front of the isle or do something to where we're still visible by the mass attendents.
I finished my program, I think. I'm just waiting to see if the people I want to be ushers can come/say yes to doing so.
6 weeks to go!
