anyone ever been to a trunk show???

i'm going to one with my mom in june. it's for designer jenny lee and it's at the only place in toronto that sells jenny lee gowns. i saw ads for jenny lee in bridal magazines so i looked up her website and she has so many designs i think are absolutely stunning (with stunning price tags to match, i'm sure :snide: ) i found out there's a trunk show coming up so i figured hey, why not, could be fun.

has anyone ever attended a trunk show at one of those fancy-shmancy boutiques?? was the designer there? is there pressure to purchase? do they offer any discounts if you do purchase that day? do they get snotty if you're not ready to purchase?

if anyone wants to see what i'm all excited about, www.jennyleebridal.com
and if you have time- or inclination- watch the runway show on the website

When I went dress shopping a few months ago, a trunk show was going on for Allure. They were offering 10% off Allure dresses that day, so I tried on a few.

I did find a dress I liked, but it was a Maggie Sottero, so I'm actually waiting for her trunk show in July to buy it so I can get the discount.

The designer is typically not there. A trunk show just basically means that they've sent a preview of the next set of dresses to the shop so people can go ahead and order them. Pressure to purchase probably depends on the shop. There wasn't any pressure at all at the one I went to, but I've been to some (that weren't having trunk shows) where they really did pressure you.

I have been to a couple trunk shows with a local bridal shop. The ones I went to were pretty simple; a rep from the designer would come in to talk about and answer questions. Several of their top designs would be on display, some that were not available in the shop normally. Some of the gowns were dicounted while the show was there too.

There were a couple of other vendors there too, sort of like a mini bridal show; there were little prizes given away too.

Hi I read that you can get a better discount from sample sales and also from discontinued dresses at the bridal salon.

That latter one is true I know because I asked for a specific designer for my sister and they brought out a discontinued style and offered it to us for 60% off.
