View Full Version : Unwanted Political Emails...

I have an Aunt that I absolutely adore! She's probably my favourite Aunt and I love being around her. But apparently we really don't see eye to eye when it comes to politics. She continuously sends me emails that not only support the views that I oppose, but they're often times mean, spiteful messages that harbor a lot of hatred and negative connotations towards anyone who disagrees with them. I used to not mind so much and actually enjoy learning about seeing things from different viewpoints and understanding why people think the way they do. But lately the messages that she's been sending me are overly aggressive and mean-spirited. Is there any polite way to tell her to please stop sending me these messages without it creating any turmoil? I would just delete her emails, but she occasionally sends me actual messages. But still, I'm probably getting 2-3 messages a day that I find offensive and as much as I try to ignore them, they kind of start to get me down.

I had a friend that was doing something similar except it was with health scare stuff (Bird Flu! Breast Cancer linked to lipstick! etc etc...) It was driving me crazy but I didn't want to offend her - finally told her that I was getting way too many emails to sort through and my in-box was too full so I was asking everyone to take me off their forward lists. That way it didn't look like I had a problem with just her. I still get her personal messages, but no more annoying forwards! Problem solved! :)
Maybe something like that would work!

Oh, good idea! Maybe I'll try that! Thanks!

Or you could always set your email up so that any emails from her go into a special folder that you empty from time to time.
I'm a black sheep of my family. My views are so oposite from my familly. They are very liberal pro-gun control. And i'm very conservative, pro-2nd amendment. I used to get some plitical emails from some of thm. But then I would "let it slip" that this weekend we were going to the firing range, or we spend alot of time there, or my Xmas present from Scott was a nice revolver....
political emails stopped, and we haven't really discussed politics for a while...
although the 2008 election is coming.

She knows what my political stances are, so all I can figure is that she's trying to convert me or something, lol. And I don't want to delete all of her messages, just the overly negative ones. I guess I just need to bite the bullet and tell her to stop the forwards.

Don't bite the bullet... you'll break a tooth plus lead is bad for you :p
Ok, on serious note. Good luck. Family can be hard, and she can get pouty, so maybe get your mom to help you deal with it, or your dad, depending on who's sister she is.

Oh...my...gosh! I checked my email literally two minutes ago and was thinking the same darn thing. I get the same kind of stuff from 4 or 5 different family members and those forwards can be awfully mean and brutal. It makes me sad because it gives me a glimpse at what they think about my beliefs. :sob: I don't agree with them about many things, but I also don't have all of those incredibly negative thoughts either.
I just don't read them anymore! *delete*

I really try not to discuss politics with people; most of my friends and family no this so I don't get too many things like this. I have gotten a few, but I just delete them.
I get alot of those hoax type email forwards though and sometimes I will reply back with the snopes link explaining they are false or I will just tell people to take me off their fwd list :p
I had a friend who was ALWAYS sending me forwards, she wouldn't even send emails to see how things are going or anything. Finally I sent the forward right back to her and told her to stop sending me this cr@p! lol

I do this too.
My pet peeves are - chain emails, warning emails, racist emails (disguised behind patriotic messages) and "if you are my friend, you will send this back to me" emails.

Even every once in a while I will read one and it will be a good story/message, then at the end will be "forward this to 10 friends in the next 10 mins or else" :irked: Then I usually just delete it :snide: If I do decide to send it on, I will remove all the forward stuff and hust send the story.
