Paypal is actually really secure. I used it when I do anything on e-bay. I also put our deposit on our photographer through paypal. A lot of websites are starting to use paypal too as a secure way to pay.

the thing is she is like instructing me to get paypal in one of the emails. also when she asked about my camera she refers it as "the item" and is asking me a ton of qestions i had already answered on the CL ad.....

I'm interested in purchasing your item,
I'm okay with the listed price.
Why did you want to sell the item??
How old is the item,?
Does it work perfectly?
Does it have accessories and original box??
Do you have paypal account??If so,get back to me with your paypal
email id so i can transfer the payment to your paypal account within
24 hours of recieving the paypal email id from you.
Get back to me Immediately..

its just fishy... its like she doesnt even know what shes buying

she doesn't sound to bright, can't read.... You have to approve the amount that she sends you so paypal is safe.

Dont use paypal through a link someone emails you. That is one sign of a scam, virus etc etc! If you use paypal, go directly though their site. Paypal itself is very secure but scammer design links to look like paypal so you can input your information for them to steal.

Also you can tell her to send you her paypal account and you can send her an invoice.

ooops.... i already told her to go away lol.

oh well next time....

i guess i was scared because as a bank teller i see a lot of fraud online. it struck me as odd to see that she didn't know anything about my camera but was also so quick to pay me 120. what came to my mind was "what is she up to?" does she have something going on with her bank account? can she take the money back from me after i send out the camera? etc...."

in the end i just had to go with my gut feeling.

PayPal is just a gateway for people to buy online using credit cards and echecks. As a seller it gives you the ability to accept such forms of payment without having to get an actual credit card machine. As a buyer it allows you to pay in these methods without giving your personal information to the seller and you can use PayPal as a buyer with or without actually having a PayPal account and you are still protected.

PayPal has been around for a long time and has a good reputation. There are people that will try to steal information and try to get you to give away information in emails and such, so as mentioned above I would never click any links in an email to sign up or log into PayPal.

Where were you trying to sell this item, on Ebay? PayPal is quite common to use on Ebay.

ETA - To answer your other question ... no one can take money back from you once paid via PayPal. They can file a claim with PayPal, that is the only way to get a refund unless you do it yourself. As long as you know what to look for and don't ever give out your log in information, PayPal can be a great way to buy and sell online :)

I've had paypal for years now, but I rarely use it. I keep getting emails saying that I purchased something for a large amount. I know these emails are a scam, but makes me nervous to go through paypal. Anyone know how to stop these spam mail, so I use paypal again?
