I'm very fair, blonde hair & blue eyes. I've been using Loreal Sublime Bronzer & it works really good. You can't tell it's fake, it looks very natural. Start with once a day then every 1-3 days depending on how dark you want to be. Even though I'm fair, I use the medium & it's not too dark at all.
Just thought I'd share.

I love that sunless tanner... good stuff. I use the medium or dark (I'm not fair skinned/light haired, and it works really well with my skintone).
I also like Glow & Steady from Bath & Body Works. It's a daily moisturizer with sunscreen and self tanner in it; you use it daily and it builds gradually.

I love that stuff! I've been using it for the past while....it gives you just enough 'glow" but doesnt make you look orange (like you said:)
I'm very fair as well and use the medium as well.

The key is EXFOLIATION before you apply. Dead/dry skin cells are what can result in blotchiness. And actually the Sublime Bronze now has a fine mist spray (sprays at any angle) that you don't even have to rub in (it's quick drying) so you can get your own back, etc... (I dunno how this one works yet... I just picked it up this weekend :bblol:).
If you're nervous about self applying, you could always try spray tanning at a salon.

I use the bronzer from Arbonne. I can just put on a light layer and I don't even notice its there. It did wonders on my wedding day.

I'm just worried about when the spray tan from the salon starts to fade...I've heard they dont fade evenly and you end up looking "dirty" or "patchy" is this true?
my friend tried it and said the only problem she had ws her feet around her ankles looked dingy?
Anyone?

I've never had a problem with the Loreal Sublime Bronzer. It's nice since you can apply it at home to keep up with it. I'm actually allergic to the sun & also have rosacea. I have a lot of problems with my skin. This one looks very natural.

I've always been told to keep the self tanner away from elbows, knees and ankles. Since the skin is thicker there, it ends up looking a different color. Thicker skin means it absorbs more of the tanner, so it's darker than the surrounding areas.

Yes, that's true. It's due to the skin being thicker but also drier (which causes it to absorb into all the little creases, etc.... ). Exfoliation beforehand will help with this.

No one's suggesting they aren't happy in their skin, but since the thread was about what bronzers are GOOD, that's what's being addressed.
There's nothing wrong with people wanting to get a little color, especially when they're wanting to do it in a SAFE manner, rather than go fry themselves in a tanning bed. Let's face it.... a long gown of white isn't our typical day to day attire, and can wash out one's complexion... so if a little glow helps make someone feel more beautiful, why not go for it? :D

Amen to that:grinhappy: I used to go to the tanning bed (about a year or two ago) But after getting a good look at FH sister(love her but ya know) Shes been using a tanning bed since she was around 19, she is now 30 but could definately pass for older. So I dont want to be old b4 my time...nothing wrong with growing old just would like to do it as gracefully as possible.
Anway, and real sun on your skin feels so much better than artificial:)
plus usiing a tan in a bottle now adays usually means extra moisturizer!

I am a fairly white girl and I dont agree with tanning bed FOR MYSELF...hehe...I am just too much of a worry wart and am afraid that I will get cancer! But I see nothing wrong in wanting to add a little color for the big day!
Lord knows that I need too!! Some people may not be able to tell the difference between my dress and my skin:D
I need to find one that I can use EVERYWHERE, including my chest...not my boobs but my chest since I break out in blothces when I get nervous...I thought that if I had a little color up there it wouldnt be so noticeable!?!

:werd: It's not for me (tanning beds, I mean), but I don't judge anyone who does.

Ohh no I dont either...I just watch too many movies like final destination 3 where the girls get fried in one of them and then I am so afraid of cancer...since I have moles on my legs and I just get worried!!:bbeek:
But I envy those girls who are nice and bronze!!:D

lol I know what you mean! I am terrified of getting skin cancer especially since it seems to run in my family (everyone on my dads side, aunts & uncles, including himself) has had some form of skin or organ cancer::shivers:: and I dont want to do anything to up my chances.
I have a friend:FH landlords wife: she just went and had a spray tan done and it looks awesome you cant tell its fake unless you knew her b4 she had it done, lol. I'm thinking of gettin one myself!

:grinhappy: It's only May and I've already got 'strap' lines... lol..... I wear sunscreen ALL the time, but I tan so easily, just being out doing a bit of yardwork here and there has given me a pretty serious tank top set of tanlines already.

I use to tan religiously. A recent trip to the dermatologist and then ended that real quick. Seriously ladies, those beds are brutal. My friend at 19 had a cancer scare from too much tanning. I will probably still go when we are going on vacation somewhere warm to get my pasty Wisconsin skin in shape after a long winter, but definately not what I used to do!
Thanks for this post, I've been looking for a good self tanner and haven't found one that works well yet!

Skin cancer runs in my family too & I had it above my eye. Had to have surgery & now I have a scar. I never laid outside as a kid (I'm 51 now) but played all day in the sun. I've read a lot about it & it takes about 30 yrs to surface. I watch my granddaughter & I put it on her all the time if we are outside. I found a brand called Australian Lizard. My doc. told me about it & it's the only one that I don't burn. It's a little harder to rub in but worth it. CVS just started to carry it but I get mine on the net. A good spray is Aveeno with SPF 70. I'm afraid that the people in their 20's that have used tanning beds for years will have a big problem in their 30's-50's. It's scary.

I agree cancer is a very scary idea....especially when some of the scare could be avoided....why lay in a tanning bed when a little time outside in natural sunllight will give you a healthy glow and brighten your mood(or mine anyway:)
As for self tanners, I also tried Olay Touch of Sun....its a lotion and you have to apply it with your hands so be sure to wash them after applying....but it just gives you a glow & its light enough to apply it in the morning after a shower and doesnt have that normal "tan in a bottle" smell. It actually smells a little citrusy.

There's actually something to that (though you can get the same effect from sunlamps). Sunlight deprivation, or more specifically Seasonal Affective Disorder, is a very real phenonmenon. Sunlight really DOES make you happier.
And it's also said that 10-20 minutes of sun exposure (WITH sunscreen) per day is recommended - it increases production of (I believe) vitamins A & D. So SOME sunlight is healthy for you.

I bought that same product but in the darker shade. I did not exfoliate and I turned orange. After a few days of being orange, my "orange" colored skin was flaking off like how a snake sheds its skin. Yuck! I hate that product and I always told customers to stay away from it. I know, I know I did not exfoliate!
Me personally, I use the tanning beds!

I've been using the spray-on medium Sublime Bronze off and on for a couple of months now and love it. I went into Ulta the other day and all Sublime stuff was buy one get one free...so I got another bottle of the spray and a bottle of the lotion that says something like build layers of tan...or something.
FH said, "Don't try something new right before the wedding!!!" and I rolled my eyes at him. I tried the lotion anyway. By the end of the night, my face was tan, my arms were tan...I looked great! With just one application!
However, when I got into the sun, I could see streaks! All over my legs!! :bbeek: It's actually pretty bad. I looked later and my <ahem> boobs are streaky too. (I blame that on FH. LOL)
Needless to say, I'm going to scrub like the dickens to get that streaky-freaky-legs thing gone....and then use the spray religiously. I love that stuff!
I just keep thinking that I'm soooooooo glad my FACE isn't streaky too! That'd be horrid! LOL!
(Plus, you wouldn't believe how much FH has said I need to listen to him more. Heh.)

People that I know who work in a tanning salon say to mix the bronzing lotion with a lotion or moisturizer & it will avoid streaking. I'm sure it's not as strong but at least it won't be streaky.

I put a towel down or spray it inside the tub. I usually only bronze where you see bare skin cuz I usually don't wear shorts. I put it on my face also. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. I am going to try out the bronzer. I am pale too and I need some color! I think I look healthier when I have some glow. A couple of days before my wedding, I had an airbrush tan. It looked pretty good, but some parts, like my hands, feet, and skin by my armpits were a little streaky. I do recommend exfoliation before you apply bronzer or get an airbrush tan, to avoid streaking.
