As some of you know, I use to be a wedding photographer; I haven't done any of that in some time now and don't normally miss it. But every once in a while I miss the artistic side of photography that I have always loved.

I met a guy at the dog park today that had a really nice digital SLR camera with an really nice zoom lens on it. We talked a bit and I got his card and then when we got home I checked out his website. He has some really good stuff and it makes me miss what I used to love.

I used to love going on little photo-safari's and take pictures of random flowers and broken down things and such, but there is often no money in that sort of thing, which is why I went to portraits and weddings. But now I want to get back into doing stuff again.

I really wish that I had a good digital camera (I have a decent point and shoot) I have a couple of nice film cameras from when I was doing weddings, but I don't want to have to deal with film :p But I can't afford to get a new camera right now. So I guess if I want to take any pictures I will have to deal with film for a while.

My favorite friend that used to go on these little photo-safari's with me moved to Alabama a few years ago and I haven't really done anything since the last time I went out with her. There is no one else in my life that is into this sort of thing anymore.

Well I guess I have rambled on about this enough; thanks for "listening" :flower:

Awww!

Well, I'm going on a safari in a couple of hours, actually...to an old grave yard. I wish you lived closer; I'd ask you to come along!!

If I'm not doing something artistic, I get a little stir crazy...whether that means writing or taking pictures or even going to see live theater or museum art. I must have some kind of art in my life or I feel trapped, if that makes sense.

*hugs*

I'd even take out your point and shoot. You can still get some great photos. I have a Nikon D70, my sister has one as well and she has a Nikon D80 from work that is hers personally. So we have been using the D80. She is selling her D70 and I have thought about selling mine. I love photography and also like video photography. If I wasn't saving for the wedding I would have bought a new lens and camera by now, but my camera fund switched to wedding fund. So I won't be getting a new camera until the wedding is over and even then I really hope I'm able to get one. I thought about taking a day this summer and drive around the state to some small towns just to walk around and shoot photos. I can't afford to go on a vacation this year so I thought it would be fun to go to a few small towns in the area. Give me some ME time away!

Totally makes sense! I love to feel creative and be artsy :D I have never been good at other art forms (drawing, painting and such; although I use to write some) so I picked up photography.

I love the feeling of looking at pictures you took that came out the way you wanted and/or making them better in Photoshop. I wanted to get into photoshop art for a while, but it is hard and I am impatient :p Mostly now I just take pictures of my dogs, which I love, but I guess I still miss the other stuff.

Summer before last I was asked by a small local art gallery to teach a beginners photography class and I was excited about that, but it didn't pan out cause not enough people were interested in it.

I may just piddle around a bit with what I have and what is close to me.

I wish you lived closer too Chase, it would be great to get out and shoot again. I may try to get in touch with an old friend that use to be my assistant when I was doing weddings and see if he wants to get together one day.

I hope that you find a photography outlet for yourself soon!

It's funny that you wrote that - I have been feeling the same way! I get to do some kind of creative stuff for my work, but it isn't really for ME. If that makes sense...

I was just talking to FH over drinks about this on Saturday night, and when we got home there was a message on my voicemail from a photographer who needed a last minute second shooter at a wedding Sunday (yesterday!) - what she wanted was someone to do some creative portraits of the groomsmen, and capture the details (flowers, rings, etc) so she could focus on the huge family portraits, etc... I can't even tell you how excited I was - my creative juices just started flowing, and even though it was still for someone else it was nice to get behind a real camera again!

Do you know anyone who is still in the business and who would be willing to loan out a camera for an afternoon?

I do a lot of creative stuff for work and then after work I don't feel like doing anything for myself. I miss it as well. I do go out and take photos once in awhile, but my camera has sat for awhile as well. This semester at work has been REALLY busy and I'm tired of being creative LOL. I would like to do photography as a business but it's a hobby I love and I don't want to become burnt out on my hobby. So I try to keep it just that, a hobby.

I emailed an old friend (we haven't talked in a while other than the occasional MySpace message) that use to like to do stuff like this and asked if maybe he wanted to get together soon.

I really don't know anyone else well enough to ask ... I will do something though ... I am also hoping to learn to sew a little again too and can make some cute stuff for me and the dogs.
