So, I think we're finally going to get a bigger car next February!!! Right now, I have a 1993 BMW 318is (which is 2-door and really small, which sucks when you have a kid). I've had this car for 7 years, but it's finally time to move up to something bigger! My absolute dream car is a Lexus RX (year 2000 and up, definitely used though, lol). I'm really excited. We'll finally have some room in our car, and I'll finally get an automatic again! Yay!

I drive a KIA Sorento and to be honest, it is so similar in looks to the RX330 that my FH calls it my "L" car. He says if we removed the Kia on the front and put an L there no one would know the difference! :bblol: I bought it new because I don't buy cars, I buy warranties and the KIA had the best warranty out there at the time. I'm on my 2nd Sorento and while it isn't a luxury car like the Lexus, this one is decked out pretty well! It has more bells and whistles than I will ever use!

ETA- Oh...and the best part is it was under $20K out the door - about $15K less than the Lexus were selling for around here.

I know! I LOVE Sorentos! That's my other choice. I've actually been debating about this a lot, whether to go with the Kia that has the warranty, but risk it losing A TON of resale value right away, or go with a used Lexus that will retain some of it's resale value, but have no warranty. A new Kia is more expensive than the used Lexus's (or Lexi as FH calls them, lol)...I'm just not sure. I'll look into it more though. But yes, good call. They do look A LOT alike. I think the main problem is that FH HATES Kias. Why? I have no idea. He's retarded. But I'm all for them. If I can talk him into it (since it will be the car that I drive every day), it'll definitely be up there with the Lexus.

Also, another thing I don't like about he Lexus's (Lexi) is that they ONLY come with Leather seats, which I'm hugely morally opposed to. So that's another thing going for the Kia...

You should be a car salesman, Kfancii, lol. I'm off to build my dream Kia online!

Hahahaha - I actually worked as a receptionist part time in a VW dealership as a 2nd job for a while. Car sales is not something I would be good at!

I'm just very practical in almost everything I do, and I just couldn't justify spending "Lexi" prices for a vehicle. Of course I don't look at a car as an investment, but a mode of transportation to get me from point A to point B. I looked at the safety ratings and the Sorentos had 5 stars, plus they fit my budget alot better, and I had a great warranty so it was all win-win.

When I was doing my research on them, KIA ranked up there with the top automakers and now that have merged with Huyndai (sp?) they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the auto industry even if they are a Korean based company.

Good luck! A new car is always lots of fun!

Well, that is the MSRP price right? I bet if you went on the lot you could find something very similar and get a much better price on it! My first Sorento was ebony black, but this new one is Ice Blue. It is really a pretty vehicle.

That's very true. Plus I'm good friends with the finance guy at the dealership that I'd be getting it from, so maybe I could haggle a deal out of him, lol. How fun!

The other thought is try their internet department. I have bought my last few cars via the net and gotten better prices that way. Of course if you have an in with the Finance guy... I say go for it!! Make sure go equipped with the True Market Value Pricing guide from Edmunds.com so you know when they are trying to pull a fast one on you!

The Motley Fool (www.fool.com (http://www.fool.com)) has a great section on buying a car too! Lots of good info there if you take the time to read it all.

Have fun car shopping!!

I'm thinking of selling my car: insurance is $240monthly, car payments is $200, and gas is $240 a month... hehehe

I drive over 70 miles round trip each day to work so gas is killing me! Even though I get decent gas milege for a big SUV, I'm spending about $350 a month in gas just to commute to work. :purplex: Thankfully, I'm old and drive a safe car so my insurance is only $60 a month.

Man, that's outrageous! I can't imagine driving 70 miles every day, lol.

Personally, I'd go with the Lexus! Especially since you have had your BMW for so long - a Kia just wouldn't do justice for you!!!

I just had to laugh at this because we bought my Beetle about 2 years ago and I wanted leather seats sooo badly, but it just didn't happen. Fast forward 2 years and now I'm vegan and very glad we got vinyl. All things happen for a reason! :bblol:

Yah, personally i like the leather in the newer beemer suvs. leather type of feeling (luxury) but its actually vinyl... they dont get hot (we live in fla) and they wipe off if they get dirty.. I wish our accord did that-- its leather and after 4 months of having it, its already showing signs of cracking in the leather-- it was brand new. literally 0.01 miles on it when i got in the car!! Leather stinks .. boo whoo.

another REALLy nice roomie suv with TONS of luxury is the vue... (saturn) i didnt believ it and my mil went from lexi to saturn and she LOOOVES it...

My husband is a Lexus technician and has been for 3 years. He would say there is no car even comparable on the market. (just quoting him).
good luck with your decision. :D
