View Full Version : Reception/2nd Dress Ladies?

I know some of you are changing your clothes for the reception. I just have a couple of questions - what kind of 2nd dress are you going to wear (pics would be awesome!) and at what point during the day are you changing into it?
I have a dress that I love and that isn't uncomfortable, but it's too long to dance in (especially if FH and I are going to do an east coast swing!)....so I need to change at some point, I think. (Besides, those shoes don't scream 'dance floor' either!)
I just can't decide WHAT I want to wear. Another dress? Should it also be white? Would nice pants be out of the question?
And I can't decide WHEN I want to change into it. I think people would be disappointed if they can't see me in the wedding dress for more than 15 minutes (the ceremony)...so maybe change after dinner, the cake and greetings? (I'm sure people want to get pictures of us dressed up.)
So I was just curious what you all were doing. :flower:

Ultimatly changing and what into is up to you; personally I think you should stay in some form of "wedding dress" at least for pictures. Or you could stage all the pictures early on then change into whatever else you want to wear.
Alot of times Brides that do this will have a longer/poofy type dress for the ceremony then a shorter/sleeker one for the reception. I did a wedding once where I Bride had a two piece dress; the top was sort of a halter type and the bottom was a mermaid skirt. After the ceremony (before they were annouced) she changed into pants she had custom made to match the top.
I have also seen couples that change into street clothes about mid way through the reception after the formalites (dance, cake cut, etc); but in this case the get-away shots don't look as nice IMO, so I would stage those before you change if you did that.

You should totally get a sexy number and NOT tell the hub about it..that would be a fun surprise...
go black and white...
something like this...you could do a RED sash!!!

I am going to be changing into a gown after dinner and before our first dance. We are doing a fast/upbeat swing dance, and I am just worried I'll be too clumsy in my original dress (I feel like a giant puff ball in it :-p)

that is my "second dress."

i'm changing into a short white dress when were leaving (kinda prom-ish i guess) b/c i dont think i can fit in the car w/ my dress (veil is staying on for the sake of the pics lol). plus were going straight to florida so it's gonna be a long ride. I love the idea for having a "sexier" dress for the reception it can be his little surprise!

Good job ladies, now you have me looking for a reception dress! I have a feeling I would only wear it for the dancing, and I would change back into my dress. I love it, and paid too much not to wear it all day. :D

Well, we're not having dancing at our reception, but I bought a simple dress at forever21 for $11.50. It's a simple, spaghetti strap dress, knee-length. My thought is that if I get tired of wearing my "real" dress, or it's too hot, or whatever, I can change into that and be a little more comfortable.

i am buying something to change into once we leave the reception. We are moving to Houston, so the night at the wedding is our last night here. i bought something for the car ride home, but I am planning on staying in my dress as long as possible!
