my mother in law is wearing a dress (to our wedding) that is the exact same color as the bridesmaids dresses. is this appropriate?

Well, I don't know about a dress the same color. My mom is going to wear a skirt that is the same color and a white top. Really cute actually. Sorry I can't help much. I don't know a whole lot about wedding etiquette.

I wouldn't be too pleased!! She is the MOG, not a brides maid. Have you spoken to hear and asked her why she wants to be mistaken for a BM? Most likely she didn't do this on purpose, has it been ordered? Is it hanging in her closet?? I know I had a problem with my MIL wanting to buy a green dress when my BM's were wearing red dresses, in my bridezilla state (one of only a few!!thank god!!!!) I swore up and down that my wedding would end up looking like Christmas, then she ended up buying a baby blue dress anyhow...opps!!

Is the color exactly like the BMs?? I wonder, have you spoken to her about this?

I don't think she should where the EXACT same color. My BM dresses are a brown. My mom is wearing a brown dress also, but her's is a totally different shade. Same with my FMIL.

My bridesmaids are wearing black and so is my mother. ( I have no idea what FMIL is wearing.) It is a personal choice. I could personally care less.But if it is bothering you, say something.

If you don't like the idea of her wearing a dress the same colour as your Bridesmaid dresses talk to her about it, or have your FH talk to her.
Perhaps she might be convinced it would be nicer is she got a dress that would compliment the colours in your wedding.

The dress my mom wore to my sisters wedding just happened to be the same color of the BM dress. But it had white lace on it and it was a different textured fabric and a totaly different style. It actualy made the picture of me, my sister, my brother, and my mom look realy nice. I was in the burgandy with white gloves ( to off set myself from the BM, I was the MOH ) my sister in the white wedding dress, my little brother in a tux and then my om in her dress. The picture came out great.
