We were discussing table settings in another thread and several helpful tricks were posted about remembering what goes where when setting a table.

the spoon "protects" the knife

the knife blade goes towards the plate

re: which fork to use work from the outside in

F-O-R-K and L-E-F-T have the same number of letters, so the fork goes on the left (same with spoon/right)

So what other tips and tricks did you learn as a child to remember stuff?

As a kid, I had a hard time learning my left and my rights. That was only until a friend of mine showed me a cool trick - Hold your hands up in front of you like you were framing a shot/scene. Kind of like this guy -

Now which hand forms the letter L? Yep, that's right - it's your left hand.

Your right hand forms a backwards L (albeit correct if you lift it to your forehead to let someone else know that they are a Looooooooooser!)

The only one I can think of is kinda like this one....

When you're trying to remember which way to take off a lid...or turn on/off anything with a knob, it's always "righty tighty, lefty loosey."

I still have to use this trick---people always laugh at me at work because they'll ask where something is and I'll be like "its down isle 22 on the....*lift hands and look the the L*...the left side"

I also have to do it when I'm driving--when I had to do my drivers test the lady was like turn right up here and I had to sort of open my hand to look for the L praying she didn't notice haha I'm such a tool

When I was learning how to drive and parking upwards on a hill, be like Superman "Up and Away!" (turn the wheel away from the curb).
