View Full Version : Beach decor?

Do you think that you need to decorate if you are getting married on a beach? For a while I planned on doing no decorations (other then my beach sign, that you can see in my journal) because I didn't want to take away from the beauty of the beach, but now I am second guessing myself.

Here is where we will be getting married. We will face the ocean. I circled where we will be setting up the ceremony.

Here is the chairs that we will have. I wanted the garden style but I have to go through the company the venue offers and this is the only chair choice.
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff190/danielle9608/WhiteFoldingChair.jpg

I can also rent an arch for $110 but I saw it and it looks kind of flimsy. Plus they do not decorate it and it will obstruct the view.

So here is my question, do you think I should do some decorating? If so what? I did plan on getting some pink rose petals for the aisle. But that is all I had planed. :purplex:

OMG! Your venue is incredible! I'm so jealous!!!

Of course guests will be facing the ocean, right? I think that the white chairs set up will look nice and elegant all by themselves, plus you will be standing at the front, near the beach, with your man and the officiant. I don't think you need anything like an arch, because like you said, it will obstruct your view.

What if you did the rose petals down both sides of the aisle, and then had them come up even further and kind of circle around the three of you standing there. Does that make sense? I'll try to draw something out for you and post.

That was exactly my plan. I just didn't know if it was "enough". Glad to hear that you are thinking the same thing though :)

Here is some greenery mixed in with the rose petals.

This may be a bit too much, but you could scale it down a little:

Ooh, what if, on the outer edges of the white chairs, you had white umbrellas propped in the sand, kind of tilting out? On the inside edges of the chairs (as a whole group) you'd have the rose petals, and then on the outer edges of the group of chairs, some umbrellas. what I'm picturing wouldn't be big enough to actually shield the sun, but maybe be a neat "beach" touch.

Or you could have some sort of stick or something in the sand, spaced apart around the outer edges of the group of chairs, and in between the sticks (or columns or something) you could drape white tulle or some other soft fabric that would look very clean and white.

ooo I love the grassy stuff in the sand. I wonder what that is?

Like this, but I was picturing MUCH closer to the ground, as to not block the view at all. and I kind of even like the plants on top, but you could omit them to keep it simple.

Maybe you could use palm fronds? (what a weird word!)

Or just use a fern's stems... you could buy a big ole fern from Lowe's for $10, and I don't think you'd need that many.

Danielle,

My planner/photographer has several different setups:

http://www.beachbrideguides.com/packages.htm

I'm doing the chairs, tiki torches and arch with greenery, rose petals in the aisle, and beach umbrellas to shade the guests. Might give you some ideas.

I am getting married on the beach too & ran across this image of bamboo stakes....I priced them at Michael's and they aren't super expensive, approx $6/size 1.5 for one stake...I always had this fantasy about having a maypole at my wedding...haha...so this idea works well for me>>>the wood & the ribbons, simple yet beautiful.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f166/brechild/beach%20decorations/bamboostakes.jpg

I am also going to use tiki torches...my ceremony is going to be closer to night time & I am allowed to have fire/lit candles/lit tiki torches but no rose petals in my location *sigh*

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f166/brechild/beach%20decorations/ceremonymarkers.jpg

I am also debating about whether I can get colored sand to line "the aisle" since I'm not allowed to use rose petals...

I also have run across some very basic arches *that could be decorated & easily transported by 2 groomsmen* :sweatdrop: I am still debating the arch *for clean up/transport reasons but seriously a lite arch shouldn't be any harder to transport than the bamboo...Good luck & make sure you save pics from your ceremony!!!

I really like the may pole idea. What kind of fabric is tied to it, or is ribbon?

I am not sure...I think it is fabric strips, but I can't tell....could be ribbon. I think I will experiment with my poles.

There are so many fun and awesome ideas BUT
be sure what you do choose can take the elements-
such as wind or possibly no wind. I got married in
St. Thomas in September. With the beach and not
wanting to take away from all the already wonderful
elements our wedding party colors were tans and cremes-
we did incorporate palm fronds but weighted them down with
conch shells decorated with flowers. Good luck with your
BIG DAY!!!!

Congrats,
Tiffany

Thanks so much for that suggestion. I am going to have my bamboo poles carved at the bottom so they stick into the ground & perhaps have some weights as well. I like the idea of an arch, but am not sure for exactly that reason, the elements.

You can use decorations, but I think that if you just leave it the way that it is, it will be perfect! The picture looks great, and if you do too much it might take away from that! If you do the poles make sure that they are far enough apart so that they aren't hitting you in the face as you walk down the isle!:jpboxer: You might have to hit them out of your way!

Yes, & my mom suggested if I wanted to spice things up that I could paint them in my wedding colors. But I'll wait & see until things come together more.

I love the place you are having your ceremony at!! BEAUTIFUL!! I think that if you just put some small decoration down the aisle, that would be enough....you never know how windy it is going to be, so I would be worried about the arch. But I love all the ideas these ladies have already posted!

OHH i cant wait to see pics after your wedding :) We should all become wedding planners!!:D

Okay I have been reading thru the posts this morning and I am getting so confused. I am planning a destination wedding in 2010 I know its a ways a way but I like to start early. This will be a 2nd wedding for me. I thought if you bought a package deal thru a tour company example Signature vacations, they decorated the venue for you depending on what package you chose. I do plan on buying a few things of my own such as cake topper, knife etc and a few gifts for those that attend. Am I confused on this subject or are you planning on adding other decorations other than what the hotel has to offer?

The hotel where I got married offered no decorations. I provided my own.

Here is our location and set up my WC sent me. We are going to add a few real rose petals on the "asile". As far as the reception decorations go, I am only using the starfish centerpieces I created. Let me see if I can dig up a picture. :) I would say it's up to you completely, but it might be a pain hauling out too many decorations. Your location is beautiful BTW

Very pretty. I am actually already married though. This is what I end up doing for decor.

http://gi82.photobucket.com/groups/j256/8DPJAROZPA/justindad.jpg You can see the Tiki things I made to go on each side. I also had rose petals on the aisle. No real great pictures of it, still waiting for my pros.

This was a professional sneak peak:

Hello Friends,

Your decor ideas are really very good. I think seashell decoration will also suit beach wedding decoration.
