I was just thinking; how about a mix CD exchange!?

Maybe those interested could post what kind of music they like and then we could try to match similar tastes and exchange a mix CD. I figure it would be a fun way to share music and/or discover new music :frogg:

What do you guys think?

Sounds like a good idea. I'm old fashion and I have no idea how to mix songs to a CD. I know....I know.....I need to get with the technology.

I have all my music ripped to mp3's on my computer, so I would just drag and drop songs into a new folder then burn the mix onto a CD.

So I guess you'd need music on your computer and a CD burner. I don't know of any other way to do it really.

Some people may even have cd burners on their computers and not realize it.

Cool; we will give it till the end of next week to see how many people want in :D

I guess we can start posting here what we like and we can figure out how to match people.

Do you think we should do it as a secret exchange and use Elfster like we have in the past?

Of course we will have to keep it to active regular members like we always do.

That sounds really neat!! I just hope there would be someone else who likes the same kind of music as me... O.o;

I'll be in, if I'm allowed.

I like country music, folk and bluegrass. I have SOOO many songs. I also like some pop and I guess independent artists. I like songs that tell a story and touch you in some way. If you listen to a song and can relate to it, I love that.

I would probably need to be matched up with someone who likes country/folk because that is the majority of the music I have. So I could put together a cd of mixed country/folk songs.

I actually would like the exchange better if I got a mix tape of songs that my buddy liked rather than that person having to download/burn all the songs that I like/already have...

It makes it more interesting to hear what some of my buddy's favorite songs are :)

I think this is the way I was thinking it would be. I would probably pick out some favorites of mine and put on the disk to send. But it would probably still need to be someone that likes the same kind of music. If you absolutely hate country then you won't like a cd from me LOL

This would be fine; but I wasn't thinking anyone would download anything, but rather we'd try to match with people similar tastes and they'd share stuff already in their own library :frogg:

Just sending what you like would make the match up part easier, but I'd worry my buddy wouldn't like what I like :sweatdrop:

Yeah, I don't have any use for Country music ;)

I like heavy metal and have several gigs of older stuff and underground bands.
I'm getting into bluegrass, swing and old country though too, although don't have any mp3s of that yet.

I might have something you like, other than country. In Fact I would love to send you this one CD, off the record for the exchange LOL. If you want PM me your address.

I might be interested, but I am overly picky about music, so my partner would have to adhere to a strict no-way-will-I-listen-to-that list, lol.

Have you heard of Dressy Bessy? It's an independent band. I don't have a big selection of Rock but do have them. My biggest collection is Country.

LOL I'm picky about music too. So what's your no-way-will-I-listen-to-that list?

Heh, that could take a while, but the main things are:
- no country
- no rap/hip-hop
- no emo
- no pop punk (I like a little bit, but it's easier just to say no to all of it)
- no bubblegum pop (eg, no Britney, Justin, boy bands)
- nothing that came from American Idol
- none of these bands or anyone who sounds anything like them: ICP, Nickelback, Staind, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, Linkin Park, Puddle of Mudd (ie, most anything they play on popular modern rock radio these days with some exceptions)

No offense to anyone who likes any of that; it's just not my taste.

That being said, the best place to see what I really do listen to is here: http://www.last.fm/user/sweetvenus/
Mainly rock/alternative, singer-songwriter, and some electronic stuff (even pickier about what electronic music I like).

This is an awesome idea. I would love to be a part of it.

I am the opposite of sweetvenus. I have very eclectic tastes in music. I don't care for opera, bluegrass, rap, or screamo all that much, but other than that I am open.

OK, how do you guys think is the best way to do this? Should we just do the Elster thing and hope we get someone that will send something we like? I just think trying to match people manually might be too much to deal with.

I don't mind matching people manually...Since there's not a huge amount of people interested I'm willing to make a list
