I didn't trim the excess off of each tab, but you get the idea. I'm not a fan of the brads, so I have some brainstorming to do on that part.
We're still working on a design for the cover.

We've decided to include all the travel info and such on the web site instead of having to make even more layers. The wording may change slightly, too.

Looking good so far. If you check out my journal I did something similar for my maps. We used ribbon to tie them together.

I really like these. I might do something similar for my medical school graduation invitations.
Actually I should get started on those like NOW because my graduation is May 17.
Thanks

Thanks ladies! :flower:
I think we're going to stick with this design with a few minor changes in the wording and come up with a design for the front. We're still debating on brads, eyelets, screw posts, or ribbons...LOL But I'm pretty excited about it and can't wait until we can start printing the real ones out.

I think I just solved the cover design dilemma...
Even though the cover is black, I just printed a page out with our names in black, and it looks cool. I think I'll use our names with a cute love quote or something. :D

Have you seen the brads that are designs? They are kinda cute? What about an eyelet thingy?

If you decide against brads, I vote for ribbons in their place.

UPDATE on my invites!
I really wanted eyelets instead of the brads, but then I had a hard time finding eyelet pliers. I finally found a Crop-A-Dile at Michael's on Sunday, so now, I can proceed. Yay! (Sorry, I'm way to excited about these invitations.)
I made another rough draft last night and need opinions. (Keep in mind, the paper will be lined up perfectly and trimmed down to the black boxes.)
Honest opinions about the cover? I just printed something on there to see how it would look.

The jury's still out on that one. FH likes the cover the way it is with our names printed on the black. He likes that it's subtle, but still noticeable, and keeps the cover from being too boring.
I thought about adding an ivory ribbon across the top of the cover (without any text on the front), but I'm not sure. I think it may be too much with a ribbon and the eyelet, and I tried printing that same cover design on ivory cardstock, but it didn't look right.

Well I like it, but older eyes may not see it or be confused. I agree with you about the ribbons it may be to much. Only thing I could think of is adding a velum layer to it, that way you can have the black and have your names be more noticeable. Either way I think it looks really good :)

I really like the cover and the monogram, but I'm not sure about black on black. Would you be willing to change out the top cover to a lighter grey cardstock to stay in the same color tones, but allow your monogram to pop a bit more?
I really like your invitations alot! In fact, if you look at my layered invite thread you will see that I am doing something very similar only alternating colors between green and kraft cardstock.
I say no ribbon- keep the monogram, but do something that makes it pop- Is there any way to print it in White if you want to keep the black cardstock?

What would really be cool is to have a custom stamp made of your monogram and then emboss the logo on that black cardstock! You could emboss in white or even silver and it would be really classy looking!

My thoughts too, you you might even want to emboss it with the black, it may give it that little bit of oomph to help one read it... I think they look great, and I love the monogram on the cover, I would defently keep that over just the ribbon.

Thanks for all the ideas, ladies!
I love the idea of embossing, but I've never done it. I've already put a fair amount of money into the invitations, and I had originally hoped that this could actually turn into one of my money-saving projects. (However, I guess money-saving is still true in that my inspiration invites START at $6 EACH. :bbeek:)
So, let's say I want to emboss the design I printed on the rough draft... What all would I need? And about how much would/should this cost? LOL
I'd obviously need a custom stamp--any ideas on where I can get one just like that made without spending a whole lot?
I'd probably go with black embossed on the black cardstock. (The cardstock is not as dark as it looks in the picture, and even my printer ink shows up a lot better in person, so I think black ink should be fine.)
What kind of ink would I need? What kind of powder? (From what I've read on other posts, clear powder is easiest, right?)
Sorry for all the questions. I just want to make sure I do it right. :)

Maybe this lady could do it for you. I'm not sure they are exactly inexpensive though. Looks like they start around $22 for a custom stamp but they would be soooo cool!
I haven't done any embossing either, but I'm really tempted to try it too after seeing SweetVenus's invites. They turned out great!

OK, so the invitations are turning out to be a much bigger expense and hassle than anticipated. If I had to do it all over again, I would not do DIY invites. I bought a custom stamp ($15), pigment ink ($7), and clear embossing powder ($4.) Not to mention the gas money spent going back and forth to Michael's two hours away.
The stamp is cute, and I really like it. However, the actual stamping quality of it is not that so far. (It sometimes leaves spots, edges, etc. in places I don't need them.) The embossing is not going as planned either.
I guess I'm back to square one of the cover design.

Uggghhhh! I have been watching for your post and hoping that the stamp was the perfect answer to the cover! I have been anxious to see the pictures of how they turned out, so I'm sorry to hear that you aren't happy with them. :bbcry: I realized when I was playing around with invitation designs that they were not going to be any less expensive to DIY either- for our reception (coming up on the 19th) I ended up ordering oversized post cards from Vista Print and putting them in an envelope then stamping the corner of the envelope with a pretty swirly design stamp, and 4 pawprints on the envelope flap.
I hope you can figure out something that you love because I sure loved your stamp! I wonder if you could use a pretty metallic ink and skip the embossing?

Yeah, I've been thinking about gold ink instead. If I can find a way to fix the edge that keeps getting in the way, I may still be able to use this stamp. I LOVE the design of it. It's just the stupid edge and the open part of the "R" that are messing up. I'll try to remember to post pics tonight so you can see what it looks like so far. :)

I may have found a solution. If it works, I won't need to buy anything else, except a few more eyelets. Here's another rough draft. These are not the eyelets we will be using, though.
I changed the script on each layer and added the design from the stamp onto the cover (except I printed it rather than using the stamp.)
I just noticed that the "RSVP" has a little extra space below the script. Is it too noticeable?
Thoughts on the new version?

Thanks! I really liked the Saginaw font I used before, but I love, love, LOVE this one. It's Passions Conflict, and it looks really good on the cardstock. You can't tell it was printed on a home computer.
The only place to buy cardstock here in town is Office Max, and the highest they had in Ivory was 110lb. It's not quite as stiff as I hoped, but it will have to do.

Allison- I love the cover design, but I'm not crazy about the new script on the tabs. I find it more difficult to read than your first draft. Have you tried combining the two versions to see if you like them together?

Finished Invitations! All that's left is to find my supplies for addressing the envelopes and them stuffing and stamping each envelope!
