I'm just lying on the couch, listening to hubby play Sims 2 game. I'd like to play but he's way into it tonight, hehehe. Okay his Sim won't answer the phone, it's so annoying! I told him to answer it, LOL! I want to play now!

That's all I did Friday and Saturday, lol. There is a hack you can download (I think on moreawesomethanyou.com) that will stop the "I haven't heard from you in forever" phone calls and your friends will actually call to chat with you instead. I love that one. It's saved a lot of my Sim friendships.
I found it. It's the phonehack.zip. Choose the latest expansion you have and you should be able to find it in the hacks folder: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,7.0.html
It's one of my favorites!

Looks like that is the majority of the convo huh ;)
So is Sims like a video game that you need a system to play, some sort of software game or something you download? What is the point or appeal of it?
Sorry, just curious, I never got into and really don't know much about it and just wonder what all the excitement is about :geek:

It's mainly a PC game (console versions exist, but aren't as good). The first one came out in 2000, and the second one was released in 2004. Each version has 7 expansion packs and the second one also has these things called "stuff" packs.
Basically, it's a virtual dollhouse. You create "Sims" (people) and stick them in a house, and then you control them. They can get jobs, get married, have kids, etc. You can create generations upon generations of families (well, in the second one....in the first, the kids never grew up) which is what appeals to me the most. I know some people just like to build houses and that's the appeal. There's so much to it that everyone can play it differently.

Plus there are genetics, so that your children in game can get certain features (eyes, nose, mouth) from either or both parents.. Eye color, hair color, etc. When you make a sim, there are TONS of options, because there are sliders that you can change anything on the face with.. Its just NEAT.
What sims look like.

Of course, thats with custom content people made for the game (you can get replacement genetics, for things like hair, skin, clothes.. Pretty much anything.). I was playing a Slayers house before that one got wiped by my evil computer. :( i miss my anime families..

:( Makes me so sad that i hated my sims game. I got it last yr, couldnt get the hang of it, and i think i threw away my game :(
I forget which ones i had, but can you do stuff without the expansion packs? I got an expansion pack and someoen told me that i should wait to put it in till i got the hang of it without the expansion packs.

I'm a dork and have all the expansion packs.. Personally, it doesn't make it any harder, just gives you more options, so if you want to put it in, go for it Vana. However, you DO need the first Sims 2 to play. The expansions can't be on their own..
Bernadette, have you tried online? I know a lot of people order from places like amazon.com or play.com. Also, i always buy my expansions at Target, specially when they first come out.. They are usually on sale. *^^* Hope i helped!
Ack.. i really look addicted.. LOL. I promise, i'm not completely glued to the computer!

I've never understood it either! My husband loves video games, and it drives me nuts. I always have to point out to him how much else he could have accomplished if he hadn't been playing them. I'm too anxious to play...I feel like I need to get up and do something productive. It makes me feel guilty.

I don't get some video games, but I will admit I can get wrapped up in the Sims quite easily! I don't play unless I know I have the time to do it. I hardly ever play, but I do get the urge to, I just always have something else going on that prevents me from devoting as much time as I know I would lol. I love it though!

I have far too many sims. I think I have at least 30-40 houses that I play, if not more. I'm on the sixth generation of sims since the original ones I created when it first came out. It's ridiculous. I have a spreadsheet of all of my sims that lists who their parents are, who they are married to, kid's names, their aspiration, their job, their major in college, and I check them off after I play them, until I've played all of them, then I start over. This is so I make sure everyone ages the same and someone doesn't end up older than their parents.
To speed things along, I have a few houses with the maximum amount of sims. One is like an apartment complex, where I stick my single sims when they graduate college. Then as they get married or get older, I move them out. I also have a retirement home where I stick my single/widowed elder sims.
Here's a picture that shows a few generations:

This is Jewel (the singer), the elder sim, and her daughter Lenedra with her husband Trent and their kids. This was taken awhile back. All of those kids have kids of their own now.

This picture is too funny! I'll have to take one of my family and post it. The twins are about 8 years old now. They are a lot easier to handle and I love having little slaves around the house. The nanny sucked, when the twins were toddlers, she didn't change their diapers and they almost died from bad higene! LOL! I'm so addicted to Sims 2 now!

I loove the sims2! I was like playing every day but I got over this stage of addiction! hehe now I play every now and then and I know I can easily get addicted again! i love the game and its expansion I was overthrilled with "seasons" and it didnt dissapoint me.
I have costum made neighborhoods with all costum made sims, all college graduates and I just love sending them on vacation.
Another thing I have is that after a year or less I am getting bored of my sims and I reinstall so I have the game all fresh ready to get started again!
I am telling you I love to play sims2!

Here in this picture is Alexander Goth who turned into a plantsim and his plantbaby!
Oh yes they are soo much fun to play!
Plantsims came with "seasons" expansion pack. In order to turn a normal sim into a plant sim you have to make them plant some veggies or some orchand trees and when these plants get infected with bugs (little white thingies all over your plant/tree) use pesticide, a lot! Then after a certain amount of pesticide your sim is becoming a plantsim! The transformation is cool also!
Plantsims need sun and water! And love of course!
No more hunger, energy, bladder etc. You have to buy a greenhouse light to keep in the house to provide them light during the night!
Also a disadvantage is that they die earlier. Not so many days of life.:purplex:
Many pleasant surprises you will get when you play a plantsim and I am not going to spoil it for you more than I did already!

There's lots of ways to kill off your sims. Some of these are:
- Make them go swimming, then take away the ladder.
- They can get electrocuted if fixing a computer, tv, etc with low mechanical skill.
- They can start fires on the stove, grill, etc. if cooking with low cooking skill.
- If you send them outside to "look at the clouds", there's a small chance a satellite will fall on them (I've actually had this happen).
- Starve them to death.
- They can be scared to death by ghosts of people who have already died.
lizardbnorton
04-14-2008, 03:27 PM
If you have them read books, the can read about cooking, which leads to learning. Does actually cooking teach them also, I don't remember. That might not work in sims 2 though. I know it happened in sims 1. I haven't playes sims 2 in forever since my comp didn't support it.

This is funny and sad if you can figure it out.
DROWN IN YOUR OWN TOILET!!!
Requirments:
boolprop testingcheatsenabled true cheat,
a sim you want to dispose of,
a toilet,
move_objects on cheat,
rodney death creator gravestone.
you see that this is a funny way to die first pause the game so you can grab the sim and put him( or her )on the toilet then go to spawn after you entered the cheat and held shift on the keyboard look for the rondey death creator then click on it pops up a gravestone click on die by drowning then resume the game and watch the sim drownd in the small toilet.
I found it on http://www.neoseeker.com/Games/cheats/PC/sims_2.html

Yep, if there is a gravestone on the lot, then there's a chance that a ghost will come out of it at night.
The original game included ghosts and aliens. Each expansion adds a different creature:
University - zombies
Nightlife - vampires
Open for Business - robots
Pets - werewolves
Seasons - plant sims
Bon Voyage - bigfoot
Freetime - genie in a bottle (although you can't actually control him)
