So I was going to have bamboo fans and programs for my wedding, but then I ran across these and I think they adorable. I think if I played around for awhile I could make them pretty easily but I was wondering if anyone had a template or directions of how to make these.

On another note have you guys checked out craftbits.com. I've gotten great ideas from there.

Hey there! I saw this too! If I hadn't already bought matching gartner studio program paper, I'd get this DIY. I found a template (I didn't download it or anything) available

Thanks you guys, you both were very helpful. I better get a move on making these, some of the comments on that page that they were very time consuming to make. So I better start now!

I am in the process of making mine now. I only have the brown paper that I am usnig and still have to order the pink paper. They are actually pretty easy to make. A couple of problems that I came across is finding colored paper that was thick enough and printing the outline on the dark paper. I ordered samples of a few different colors of brown paper and pink and then decided on them. Since brown paper is hard to print on I am only using it as an accent color. I will try and take a picture of the sample that I made and post it tonight. I play vball at the Y on wednesdays so hopefully I won't forget. The only difference between my sample and the actual ones I am using the the number of leaves I am using. If you need some places to order paper let me know and I will give you a couple websites....I have them bookmarked at home and not at work.

Why don't you make a template out of some white cardstock and trace it onto the dark paper using pencil, since pencil lead shows on dark paper?

I got the outline printed on it alright but the shadow of the scissors gets in the way at times (haha). You have to make sure that you have plenty of light to see the line to make sure you stay straight. But for printing words or anything else on the dark paper it won't work that well. One of my BM is a sales rep for a paper company and that was the first thing she told me was that it is going to be hard to print on the dark paper except for obviously black. The place that I got the template from actually makes them for people and she normally prints them on white or other light colors and then incorporates the colors into the font and pictures.

I recently realized that I need to make some sort of fan also, since the average temp. at noon where we're having the ceremony (outdoors) is 85 degrees, and I think these are really cute!

Oh yeah I forgot but the link that I got the template from that also makes them uses a die cut machine to cut hers out instead of with scissors.

What kind of cardstock did you guys use? How heavy is it? Where did you get it? And one last question, did you print at home or did you take it to a copy place and do it there?

You have to use pretty heavy cardstock, like 100# or higher for the fans to really work! You can order it at a ton of places or you can check out local craft places.
I found some heavy cardstock at a office paper supply place locally!
To print the heavier stuff I suggest taking it to a local copy place, they do a nice job and sometimes you can get really good deals if you wait for the color copies to go on sale!

I got my brown paper at www.paperandmore.com (http://www.paperandmore.com) - it is only 80lb and I am getting the pink at www.bluedotpapershop.com (http://www.bluedotpapershop.com) and it is only 80lb. It is harder to find the heavier colored card stock. I do see now though they have a 111lb brown at www.lcipaper.com (http://www.lcipaper.com). Oh well my sample works just fine. Some to most of the paper places online will let you order a sample sheet. I think I ended up getting about 4 or 5 different browns and just one pink. I will print it all at home. I have printed on 110lb cardstock at home and it worked well. Hope this helps!
karriel - to answer your question it isn't hard to open and close the fans....you just have to make sure of how tight you put the eyelets but once you open and close it once or twice they work well.

I purchased my white and red card stock at office depot at 110 lbs so it was heavy enough.
I one upped it and wanted a design. So I went to an arts and crafts store and bought designer card stock but pretty thin. Printed on them and used a glue stick and stuck it to the white card stock.
