Ok...the wedding dress I have already looks like this only its barely an off white and has a tulle (i guess thats what it is) over lay:

I will have to have it taken in a little because its too big, but i also wanted to have it "fancied" up just a little. It has a scarf with it. I had looked in to the wraps and coverup thingys, but thats just a little too fancy for my wedding. What can i do so that its not quite so plain, still keep it simple? Ive got an appointment to take it in to be altered in a few weeks and wanted to have my other ideas ready to discuss.
Thanks girls!

What is your headpiece like? Maybe just adding a little longer veil and some dramatic jewelry will do the trick. CHeck out Claires Boutique (do they still call the earring place that?) They always have sparkly stuff for proms and stuff. That might dress it up just enough.

I wasnt going to wear a headpiece.....just some flowers in my hair maybe.
I think they have a Claires near here. Ill have to check. I was just going to wear my new opal necklace I got for Christmas from my FMiL.
I have people telling me its just fine the way it is, but i dont know. Brian says if i fancy the dress up too much, then before we know it I will have him in a tux.....not a bad idea I dont guess.
Thanks....I think I will check into the headpiece thing and see if there is anything that i like.

You could always make the opening in the skirt a little bigger and higher up, add a layer of lace/tulle underneath, and get some of those lacey embellishments that you can sew/iron on and add them to the hem/neck line. Maybe a stripe of Teal at the hem.. Or even change the neckline or back to be more dramatic.

I love the dress, but I can see what you mean. It needs a little 'sprucing up'.

$15 for a dress in PERFECT shape.......I couldnt complain. And it could easliy be changed a little to make it "mine".

Depending on when you have your wedding maybe you could put one of those "shell jackets" on over it, it would give it some sleeves and I think it would still be simple and give it a more unique look. If you did that you could even put some embroidery on the edge of the front of the jacket and maybe at the bottom of the dress to match. If you know a seamstress you could probably have it done really cheap. They have the sheel jackets at David's Bridal for $20 I think!

This is just my personal style, but the simple dress with flowers in your hair and some nice jewelry would be very classically beautiful. I love the simple dress with beautiful accessories look, but that's just me.

However, if you want to dress it up a bit maybe look into replacing the overlay with something that has a pretty pattern on it...it wouldn't be too hard.

I love the dress, i think its very pretty. I think some nice sparkely jewellery will help make it a little fancier.
You could also look into having someone put some beading on the front arround the neck line to dress it up. Or you could use a teal ribbon arround your waist to add some punch and keep with the colour theme of your wedding.

I agree with the other ladies ... nice jewelry, a sash, a lace jacket ... something like that would look nice and spruce it up a bit. Maybe ask the seamstress for ideas too.

I did actually talk to one today. She said she would need to see the dress before she could give me her opinion, but she did recommend looking at a fabric store at the applicays (totally misspelled that word)

Yeah, it is 'appliques' (had to spell check it though  ;)) But that might be nice, if she could sew or iron on something at the hem.

Even if you wear a nice simple head peace and some nice simple jewelry, that should dress it up some and if Brian wears a dark suit, he won't be out of place ;) But the veil is a little more formal IMO

I agree about the veil and I think its WAY too formal for what we are trying to pull off. I wanted Brian to wear a suit, but I think Im gonna have to settle for the khakis and white polo. Im not complaining because he did threaten bermuda shorts, a wife beater and his flip flops.

That would still be nice :)

OMG, LMAO ... I would be so mad. My DH wore jeans and a gray shirt. I wanted him to wear black khakis but he didn't want to buy anything new. Oh well, at least he didn't wear his everyday cargo shorts and a wife beater ;)

Funny, slightly off topic ... I saw an add for girls tanks called 'boyfriend beaters' :bblol: I had to laugh ;)

I have been trying to think of a suggestion for you. Everything the girls have suggested sounds good. Since you are taking it in to be altered soon maybe your best bet is to get the seamstresses opinion. She would have a better idea of what can and can't be done and approximate price of what it would cost.

I have to say though I agree with Kelli simple is classic and elegant. :D
