I thought I'd start a thread for the name card DIY project :flower:

I'm still working on Erik making these, it's like pulling teeth I swear. We must have about 40 of them to made, he's made like 15 in the past 8 months. I guess I'll just have to keep nagging him, I hate doing that.

I thought I'd try making them myself (even though this is his thing) and this is how bad mine look in comparison:

Mine is on the left and his is on the right. Needless to say he has to be the one to make them.

Now I just need to find the cards to fit nicely on the chairs for the name cards.

I think this will be something that will really get people talking. I just love them. I think a regular business card would probably fit nicely. You could get those kits from staples and use a word template to print them. :)

That is a great idea! And so inexpensive. You rock!

These are cute; I have tried to make them myself but they don't look right at all :p

Care to share how it is done? And how exactly do the cards fit in them?

Well I learned how NOT to make them but I honestly haven't watched him every step. I believe he cuts the back wire (not the twisted part that ends up being the top of the back of the chair) and pulls it out from the bottom. He attaches each cut end to the back of the seat of the chair and then bends the twisted part to make a fancy backing. He then puts the seat back in (i am assuming it pops out because it did when I did it) and pinches in the legs so they hold the seat in then bends them out a little, as you can see with his on the right. Did that make sense?

I have NO idea what to do with the cards, I don't want to clue them on but I want them to stay in the seat. I'm thinking maybe if I punch a hole in the card I can tie it to the back...this is something I'll need to test.

How bout for the cards, he can use the ends of the wire that is used for the back of the chair, and have the ends extend down so that they hold the card agains the back of the chair like, well, the back of a chair?

If you want to give him some help, why not do the legs for him (looks like you have that down pat and let him do the backs.

Yeah I could definitely help with the process although I will have to get to work on the cards. I could do some though...

I love them! I was talking to my fiance asking him if we should do something like this. We decided it would take too much time. But I'm glad you're doing it!

It's one of the few jobs he has to do, I'm doing everything else because he really didn't need the big wedding, it was my idea. He has to do this and he has to put together the string quartet.

He's a master procrastinator, it's probably our biggest issue because I obsess about doing things way ahead of time. He's very relaxed about things and I'm super neurotic :D

So...did you have to drink 40 bottles of champagne to get the materials? If you still need more, I am happy to help empty bottles. :bblol:

Any help would be great. We have about 40 and I think we'll need at least 70. People have been giving us some, especially my parents...my mom loves her champagne. Also our venue has been collecting them for us too, I'm going there next weekend and hopefully they'll have a bunch more.

I found these place cards but they may be a little too big for this, sigh. I was hoping I could find something that I wouldn't have to cut each and every one. I suppose I could use these for something else...

I bought some thick paper to make the programs out of and I think I'll just have to make the cards for the champagne chairs out of that instead.

Sounds like us :)

What about business card size? You can buy them perforated & ready to print at an office supply place. You might even hole punch the top and hang them with a bit of ribbon, from the back of the chair.

Business cards are too big actually, these need to be about double the size of a fortune from a fortune cookie. That's how small.

Can he do other things like that? You guys could sell them. Those are great.:bblol:

He repairs string instruments for a living, he can do a lot of things. Someday we are going to have our own business repairing string instruments and fixing furniture, etc. He's very talented.

In fact he's still making something for my birthday that was back in February.

Folded in half (tent fold) and placed on the chair seat?

Those are so cute!! Yours looks just as good as his, his heart is a little better but other than that you did a great job :) Good luck with getting him in gear to finish these!! I have faith in him..

Ok...thanks for saying mine looks good but it doesn't...it looks deformed :D

This weekend I'm going to try to figure out what to do about the card on it, I think even a business card folded in 1/2 is too small. Figures, there are no ideas to help me with this project because I'm not sure anyone has done this before. We may just need to cut paper into about the size of 2 fortune strips (from a fortune cookie).

I am also determined to get Erik to do like 5 this weekend.

I have sad news.

It is looking like we may not collect enough of the cages to make enough chairs for the name cards. We'll still try to use what we have for something else but not sure yet. Sucks though, I was so excited.

Ok, does anyone have ANY suggestions what to do with the chairs if we don't use them for the name cards? Mind you the size of paper you can fit on them is about twice the size of a fortune from a fortune cookie. I have no idea yet really except maybe love quotes but then it would be really small.

bichonlvr

Can you incorporate them into centerpieces anywhere?

HisMuse
04-27-2008, 03:39 PM
I'm not sure. Our centerpieces will be plants that people can bring home. Other than that we're not having anything else on the tables.

Maybe put them on the table with the food and have the food description on them? Unless you are being served then that won't work....hmmm...Maybe stick them in the centerpiece, hot glue them to a long stick and make some sort of tag that references the wedding? (Maybe the love quotes on them that way?)

We are being served. I'm thinking of just putting quotes on them around the room.

Maybe you could make a mobile of them and hang family photos from them (small ones). I noticed there are huge beams in your venue you could hang it from there ...

Here is the place cards I've come up with (thanks for ALL the help Danielle, I couldn't have done it without her) since we can't do the champagne chairs anymore. I think I'll either use the chairs for little signs to say what stuff is or to place quotes around the room.

We could never invite him, I'd end up ignoring the groom. That is also why Dave Grohl isn't invited.
