It's usually a nice gesture to offer to pay if you are requiring them to get it done, but it's not really set in stone who pays for it. I'm not requiring my girls to get it done professionally, but if they want to, they will pay for it themselves.

does this apply to hair and nails as well?

Generally the BM's are responsible for all their attire for the wedding including hair, makeup and nails. However, if the bride requests that they have this professionally done or that they have a certain look, then it would be best for the bride to offer to pay.

For my girls, they paid for their dress, hair and did their own makeup!! They looked amazing!! They were all happy with the way it turned out!! And none of them minded paying to have these things done!!

Nails... I'm going to try to plan our bridal luncheon around doing our nails probably the day before the wedding. If they want to get their nails done they can pay for it.. Unless I find a great package deal then I'll pay for it.

I am going to give them the option if they want their hair done and offer to pay for just their makeup since its only $25 per person.

I'm paying for the BM's dresses and hair as a gift also.

This is also what I'm doing, I think most of them are doing it themselves, but theres a couple that are going to come with me and get theirs done!

I'm getting my girls gift certificates to get their nails and feet done as part of their gift from me.

ETA: Sorry, I just realized you were asking about hair and makeup - my girls are paying for this themselves if they choose to have it done professionally.

I had a conversation with them to ask if they wanted to have their hair professionally done, since I have super-short hair and will be styling it myself for the wedding. Turns out that all three of them thought that they could do a better job with their hair than a stylist could-- I don't blame them! I also don't care how they wear their hair, as long as they're happy with how they look.

So we will be throwing FH out of the wedding suite the day of the wedding and getting dressed and ready there!

i'm only having 1 out of the 5s done cuz she is the only one coming out of town and is the only one that can't do her own hair...

I did not require my girls to get their hair done ... In fact I actually ASKED for them to NOT get their hair done. I personally don't like "done" hair so I just told them that if they don't want to do it themselves, just ask the hairdresser to do something soft and natural.

I think most of my girls are doing their own makeup. I am going to MAC though! I loooove how they do makeup!

But to answer the OP question ... NO it is not required for you to pay but it is a nice gesture if you are wanting them to do something specific.

I'm going to pay for the hair. We'll probably do an afternoon out the day of the rehearsal to get manis and pedis. They can do their own makeup because they are like me - picky! I sell Mary Kay so I'll probably provide some eyeshadows and lip glosses as a gift to them.
