To go along with the tavern-ish type feel of the venue, we thought this wooden crate worked perfectly.

I posted this in my journal but figured I'd post it here in the DIY section, too.

Supplies and Costs:
wooden crate- $6 (AC Moore)
wood stain- $3
brushes- $2
ribbon- already had it from my BM cards
card- already had it, too!

$11 cardbox...MUCH better than the price cardboxes sell for in stores

It is a tiny bit big, though--about 14 inches long??? It was the only size they had. (It will be easily seen on the gift table, so that's a plus, right? :bblol:) Besides, we plan on using it in our house afterwards for storage or something...

The picture on top is obviously of our dog, but we'll be using a similar frame with a picture of the two of us. I just don't have any pictures of us framed upstairs with me right now.

Before (excuse the ugly carpet, this was taken at work)

After one coat of stain.

Finished!

I love it! I really like the idea that you can retrieve the cards easily, any size card will fit, and that you will use it later.

What a great idea! Are you going to put a removable "bottom" on it or just use the table top as the bottom?

It looks WONDERFUL and of course I love the photo of your fur-baby on the top of it!

ETA - Okay...so I just re-read that you are going to replace the photo with one of you and J- How about a family picture with all the fur-babies too?

Oh gosh, I forgot to explain about the bottom. Thanks for bringing this up!

We have access to boxes, cardboard, etc at work, and we're going to attach a piece of thin cardboard to the bottom and have it covered in the extra fabric I have most likely. Something than can be very easily removed without damaging the wood and won't be noticeable just by looking at the outside of it. We'll probably add this at the last minute so we can use the crate for wedding storage right now. LOL

I hadn't thought of using a picture of us with the furkids, but that's a great idea--if we can manage to all get in the same picture with everyone behaved. :bblol:

Thanks. Feel free to steal it. I can see this box working for so many themes. It would be really easy to change it up a little.
