I got this email today from my FMiL:

Please read the attached warning issued today.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS:
You should be alert during the next days:
Do not open any message with an attached filed called ""Invitation""
regardless of who sent it .
It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch which ""burns"" the whole
hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone
who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list, that is why you should send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this
message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.
If you receive a mail called ""invitation"", though sent by a friend,
do not open it and shut down your computer immediately.
This is the worst virus announced by CNN, it has been classified by
Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever.
This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no
repair yet for this kind of virus.
This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where
the vital information is kept.
SEND THIS E-MAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW, COPY THIS E-MAIL AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS AND REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US.

Ok ladies, please keep in mind that I have been sending copies of my invitation to a few people to show them what i have come up with, and what have I been putting in the subject line? :bbconfused: You guessed it: Invitation!
Now people are going to think Ive been spreading an email virus.....:bbcry:

I doubt it. I get that kind of stuff all the time. I open it if I know the person, and if I don't? Delete.

Most email providers have virus check.

yeah, I get virus warning emails all the time. I don't worry too much about it ... I have Norton Anitivirus and it scans all my emails. The best thing to do is to block HTML and not to open attachements from people you don't know.

I just wonder how many people have opened their emails from me marked "Invitaion" and are now freaking out!!!

If need be, you can re-send the emails with another name, and explain that you received an email that made you wonder if they thought that your email was really a virus.

I think people start those "Waring Virus is Passing Around" emails just to be annoying.

Yep it's a hoax. I always go to www.snopes.com (http://www.snopes.com) when I get an email like this and check it out. Here is the info on this email:

I was thinking it might be another one of those hoax emails. What do people get out of starting this kind of :censored: ? I mean :censored:, don't they have anything better to do? :realmad:

This one girl sends me all kinds of hoax emails, I know she means well (as most people that forward this kind of stuff do) I just keep sending her the snopes reference. I don't usually forward anything without checking it out on Snopes first ;)

Yeah I know. Apparently these people have no life!! :bbconfused:

I used to forward on all the emails I got but then I was showed how to find out if they were legit so I always check them out first now. I don't think any that I have ever been sent were actually legit.

I got bored a few minutes ago and pulled up the Snopes website....:censored: ..a lot of emails i have gotten and forwarded on have been false. Now i feel like an idiot and feel like I need to go back and let these people know that these emails were false.

Yeah, I used to feel that way when I would forward stuff and find it to be a hoax. Now, I don't forward these kind of things much at all and if I do, I look it up on Snopes or HoaxBusters (http://hoaxbusters.org) before hand ;)

One time my aunt sent me an email and since I worked with her I went into work and she was freaking out, telling me I HAD to erase this java script from my computer because it was a virus!! So she erased ALL of the scripts on the three computers at work!! After that they all crashed and she was POed, she has a real problem with everything!! Total major mood swings and such!! Anyhow, she wanted me to go home and erase it off my computer!! I told her I would and never did!! lol...when she asked me if my computer had crashed I said no, I don't know what happened to yours!! lmao!! I had a very love/hate relationship going on with her....she loved to hate me, so I did what I could to get back at her when she was always rude to me!! lol...ok I am a very bad peson sometimes!! lol

That’s to funny!

Send emails to people and then make the email look like a virus warning, and follow up with a detailed example of how to format your hard drive to take care of the problem

I think people do that just to get kicks. It is somewhat funny when you hear about people doing what CandainaBride aunt did.

I know Im an over experienced computer user, but to me its as if someone told me I had cockroaches in my house and I should light it on fire to get the problem taken care of.

Ahhh live and learn!
