So I found these baskets at Target for a buck a piece. I'm thinking I'll get spray paint and paint them white (they're off white right now). I want to use satin ribbon or something to make them cutesy white and black flower girl baskets. Any suggestions?

Same with the second pic - that's Sierra's key basket. I wanted to make a satin handle for it with satin bows at the base of each side of the handle. I'm not reall crafty with ribbon though, so I was hoping that ya'll can help me out with some ideas!

I would just paint them like you said.. and add a little ribbon that they will be adorable :)

With the first set of baskets you could weave them with black and white ribbons and don't forget the handles. You could end those with bows or streamers.

With the second basket I would just use small (2mm to 4mm) ribbon along that top edge ending with bows.

Interesting ideas gals thanks!! I didn't even think of using small ribbon for the second basket. I was thinking about weaving white and black ribbon in the two flower girl baskets, just unsure where to start, but I guess I'll never know unless I play with em.

I am going to try to work on them this week!

i like the idea of weaving the ribbon in a downward position or maybe if you dont like that- maybe glue ribbon all around the handle, add some pearls or cryatals on the basket. Maybe you could dangle ribbon from the bottom to? Ar eyou looking to make them uniform and the same or are you doing them different

I'm thinking I want both of those two the same. Since the flower girls are the same age, wearing the same dresses, I'm going to try to do them exactly the same.

You could get silk flowers that are similar to your bridal bouquet and glue them on there or do an alternate of the flowers and ribbon, with crystals or pearls glue down the ribbon.

that's a good idea!!!

I had about 8 minutes yesterday while Matt and Sierra were outside, and I was cleanin up the house. I happened to have the baskets and the bag of ribbon in my hand at the same time and said what the heck - I put this together real fast, and am thinking to keep going with the black in the same pattern that I was using, but I might switch the black with the white (positioning), and use a thick black in the middle of each section with thick white on either sides. I'm just playin around, I want to cover the outside probably, but I'm not sure. I want to play around with these a LOT more.. it was kinda fun!!

Maybe try weaving one side to the other, that way everyone can see both colors :)

I like the woven idea. That will look really cool. For my FG baskets I just bought those little tin buckets at michaels covered them in satin fabric and wrapped ribbon on the handles. I had no clue what I was doing, but after playin around, i ended up with cute baskets! So good luck, heres mine if you wanna try the ribbon wrapped handles.

OMG nikloveskev I'm almost regretting putting the last 1.5 hrs into getting 2/3 of a basket done. I was playing around with ideas with the ribbon, and I ran out of ribbon once I decided on a design. I am not positive what I'm doing with the base of the basket yet, but I do know I want to wrap the handles and put some flowers and bows at the base of each side of the handle. Here's my creation so far. It's 10pm and I want to run to Walmart so bad to get more ribbon so that I can finish. But I think I'm going to wait till tomorrow morning and work on wedding stuff alllll day!!!

Sierra decided to hang out with me :whoohoo:

I tied off 3 pieces of ribbon to a section like this:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/Easter081.jpg

Then wove them up to loop over the top 'rail' of the basket:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/Easter082.jpg

Then started gluing them down over the outside:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/Easter084.jpg

And pulled a black ribbon down over each bracket on the basket like this:

Here's what it looks like from the inside - for now

And the final "look" from the outside sides (haven't begun on the handles or the base or the inside yet)

Thanks!!!

So, I did run out of ribbon last night, and was going to go to the store and get more so that I could finish, but Matt was wanting to go to bed and I didn't want to stay up half the night alone, so I went to bed too. *DOH* Walmart, Target, Michaels, EVERYWHERE was closed today :( GRRNESSSS. So I had to put them off for a couple days.

Well, I did find 2 more rolls of the white ribbon, so I was able to finish the ribbon on one basket.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/things118.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/things119.jpg

Now, what on earth to do with the excess ribbon on the base. I wanted to just even them out lengthwise and use flowers to kinda tie it together and let them dangle, but I didn't like that look and I couldn't get the side ribbon to lay straight if I pulled everything together at the base. So I decided to pull the ribbon up through the bottom and glue it inside the basket:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/things125.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/things001.jpg

Pulled, glued and trimmed the excess ribbon *yeah, I wasted a lot in small pieces*, but when I started I had no idea what I was going to do.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/things004.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/things006.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/things002.jpg

Now I had no idea how to cover that hideous hole, so I used some of the extra ribbon (I might put some iron on flower patches on there just to spruce it up a little)

So from the side it looks a lil snazzy:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/things007.jpg

So mom and I got some black and white satin for the inside, and I decided if I can find the black ribbon to do the other basket in opposite colors, I will do that, but here's what I came up with with the satin lining:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/things010.jpg

And wrapped the handle with some black and white striped ribbon to give it the two tone effect:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/things011.jpg

So I'm indecisive when it comes to this touch... I kinda wanna put small daisys or sunflowers around the rim of the basket so that the lip of the black satin is covered, but whaddya think... with or without the hearts? It'd be just barely covered by the flowers on the rim of the basket. (I still gotta buy the flowers).

Thanks ladies!! Matt loves the extra ribbon around them cuz it incorporates our theme symbol (my BM's jewelry, our custom napkins, our programs probably, etc). I think I like it like it is, but I still wanna try putting a couple flowers on it - but only a couple... to see how it looks. I gotta get some first though :)

i like it without the the flowers because i think its cool to be able to see the black ribbon on the other side of the heart ribbon. keeping with the two tone sort of deal

Well, I went to Michaels and I picked up the ONLY black satin ribbon they had over 1" wide. This was 2.5" wide, but it was satin, and it's black. So I figured what the heck. The second basket went a heck of a lot faster!!

First of all, I only used one strand of ribbon per section, whereas on the other one I used 3 strands of ribbon per section. Then of course there's the fact that I knew what I was doing this time around.... last time I was kinda just playin it by ear.

I am still unsure whether or not I'm going to add some daisies and some 4mm blue ribbon or not....

getting it set up:

I'm thinking bout using 4mm blue ribbon that I have to wrap around the handle, only a few wraps - to bring in the blue, and end it at the base of the handle in a bouquet of daisies or something... I'unno yet. I gotta get some wired flowers to play with the idea.. maybe I'll just try it with what I have. I got done well after 11 last night so I'm beat  But I got a lot done last night! :)

Thank you Danielle :flower:

I was talking to my mom a few mins ago and she says that, since Sierra's basket is made with pearls, I should use a string of pearls around the top of the baskets, that way they'll cover the glue and the seam of the satin around the edges. I just might do that! :)

So I officially finished all three of the flower girl baskets today. I just made the handle to Sierra's basket and figured that it's pretty as it is - if I put a lining in it it's going to detract from it's simplicity.

So, I put the string of pearls around the lip of the two matching baskets, and lay a string of pearls in down the middle of the ribbon I cut for the handle of Sierra's basket. Here's how they turned out...

Sierra's basket:

And the FG baskets:

Touched up the FG baskets tonight, and added our little charm that we're going to place throughout the wedding! This was totally simple and took like 20 mins.
