Alright, so I set up my dining room table today... and I wasn't just blown away excited. But then again, I had to use tons of tulle to get a "black" table to reflect black linens. So I think with real linens it'll look nice. I still need to put the napkins in a dryer so that I can soften them up a bit, and get rid of the creases in them.

Here are a few that I came up with, what do you like better, and please let me know if you have any additional recommendations!!

I usually warn about pics for dialup users - but yes, I was trying to draw attention because I'm so lost with these centerpieces. See, I have the material to use the blue material under every centerpiece, but if I go with mirrors for all the centerpieces then that means buying or renting at about $5 a piece or more and I am going to have about 33 centerpieces. Hmm maybe I can do both. I'm using 8' and 6' tables, I can put a center centerpiece instead of two of them (one on either side of the tables), and then on either side of the center I can do just the blue. I'unno... Do you have enough blue fabric to do a table runner type of thing???You could put them the short way to save fabric if you are having 8' banquet tables... then you could forget the extra expense of the mirrors, or if you like the mirrors by themselves you can buy smaller mirrors at Dollar Tree for $1.00:flower:

ALSO-- I love you little Milk Can Flower Vase- very cute, but I think the Silverware layout takes away from it. I would just put the Knife next to the Spoon. The napkin looks a little crowded with the Pen on there too. Maybe station a couple of kids- or the RB & FG- at the door before the reception with baskets handing them out as people come in, they will be more likely to put them in a pocket or purse and won't leave them on the table... Just my 2 cents!!!

I'm really not crazy about the table runner look, but then again, I haven't tried it. I guess I should try it before I write it off. If I do it short ways across the table, then I *should* have enough blue material. I bought a whole bolt - I think it's 22 yards, and I could cut it down the middle to make two runners per piece. I'll have to give it a shot.

I think what I don't like about the fabric is that it seems messy. Maybe if you cut it into a square instead of folding it, it would look better? Of course, the mirror looks best.

You have a good point - that's the kind of criticism I need . I'll play with ideas - maybe some cardstock on the pen with a note or something. That can be handed out at the door, and the favor bags can be at the place setting. I'll be playing with the centerpiece idea soon. I need to get a black sheet so I don't have to use my tulle every time I want to set up the table LOL.

A few things...

First, let's go with the elements that are currently visual eye-grabbers...the tablecloths and centerpieces. Wonderful idea on the centerpieces BTW...the flowers are so pretty and the holders so neat!!

Now on to the rest...and this is just my opinion, which isn't professional or anything like that :).....

The blue cloth - something about the color on this blue cloth I just don't like. I'd like to see what the table looks like without the cloth. Either that, or, if it's possible, try a light shade of aqua/turquoise (if that works with your color scheme).

The stones - Definitely beautiful, but any stones should be removed that blend in with whatever surface they're on (ie no black stones on black tablecloth, etc.). They don't show up as a nice element, only as a lump. Suggestion: remove blue cloth and only use stones which catch the eye.

Organza bags - same thing goes for these re color. White bags get lost on the napkins. May want to not use them at all.

Silverware--it's getting lost in the black, and the main reason it's there is to add some 'oomph' to the table. Not sure how you would address this one, but it seems a waste to have a nice place setting go unnoticed.

Lastly, you may find a napkin in the dryer equals a plump fluffy one :monkey: Do a test on one before you put them all in. May have to use an iron on those instead.

Hope I didn't sound critical--you're doing a fabulous job! I found when decorating for my 2 friends' weddings that the table design was a tedious process, finding just the right way to combine all the design elements that my friends wanted to see on a table. I have another friend getting married in May, and thankfully she's renting centerpieces for each table and basic white tablecloths :sweatdrop:

You can bet there'll be pics! I actually talked about it somewhere else on here, not sure if it was on this thread or not. *fingers crossed*... It's a LOT cheaper than using the diamon plate (which is my favorite idea), but I think if I get the right one it'll look great...

Do away with the blue thing but maybe get some marbles that are blue and place them on the mirror i think them on the mirror looks better and not scattered.

Look at these cause it adds details with it and is blue:

Okay, here we go... (you have a truck or tire theme too, right?)

Remove the blue cloth, and stones. Place the yellow flower centerpiece on table with blue glass rocks. Either with or without metal tray.

Optional, but an interesting table element that brings a little more color to the table:

Buy some heavy cardstock in light blue, and print either your menu or reception program on it. Cut it out in a silhouette of a truck, place it on top of each napkin.

Also optional: Tie a bow of blue fabric around the container, or 'puddle' some blue fabric around the container.

Beautiful choice of colors!

Great ideas! Actually I've been considering trying just the tins on the black tablecloth with the blue marbles scattered around it, and maybe using a little ribbon around the top of the tins to incorporate the colors.

I LOVE the idea of using cardstock and cutting it in the shape of a truck and doing our program or menu or something on it that's a great idea! It's been mentioned before to find truck shaped cards, but I didn't even think to cut them out.

PLUS, our tables are going to be named after different ford vehicles. We can almost do whatever kind of vehicle that table is named - for the cards. Oh I love it!

Here's another thing for you (gosh, I love this :puppy:)...

For your table numbers, you could do the same silhouette outline (cut out after printing of course), on the same blue cardstock, and the number (or name) could be in the Eagle GT Font (free) here:

OH that way I can get my tire tread look after all!!!! I wanted to do mud tire brands for our table names, but everyone vetoed that with the preference for Ford types (matt likes ford types as well). Yes I can change the font. I chose this one for now cuz it's readable with the white/black/gray. Yes, I like the idea of doing this on a blue cardstock, black tire tread, white writing.

OR, I can print the tire tread on the blue cardstock and just use white paint and find someone who can paint and have them paint the name over the tire tread.... hmmm....

I love to play around with stuff like this, so let me know if you want to see other versions! To outline the tire tread I:

opened your image in photoshop,
selected the tire tread (I actually selected everything that was black, and then unselected what I didn't want)
copied and pasted the tread on a new layer
added a "stroke" to the new layer

i like the last one sarah did the best it ties in with your theme and is sooo cute by far my favorite. Also i like the rocks maybe like someone said just keep the turqoise ones. and even though you kinda moved on from here i like the mirror w/ the rocks.
this might be cute. you could get some fabric made into table runners and add one to the middle of the table. Paint the tire tread patern you want onto it. Then just add the cute flower centerpiece. From far off it would look like a cute design on the table runner but when you look closer you see it.

I don't have enough material to make enough table runners. So far the only blue on the tables is going to be some of the chocolate rocks, maybe blue ribbon around the mouth of the vase, and the blue favors. But that's only SO FAR :)

Thanks!! I love that idea of the tire tread on the table runners though!
