Hey all! I am thinking more and more about my card box. Tonight I will finish my favors, so I need some cardbox ideas.

One of my BM's came up with the idea of using one of my milk cans for the card box, just putting a lid with a slit on it. I can paint it, paste pictures on it, whatever I want to do to it. But I'm still looking for ideas. I figure the milk can will go well with my centerpieces, but I'm also thinking that it could be overkill.. cuz we have SO MANY milk cans.

I like the tool box idea, where I can get a tool box and put a slit in the top of it.. fancy it up a bit....

But I'm still lookin for ideas!!

Here's the milk can I can use:

Ohh I think that the milk thing would be TOO cute!! Just as long as the top is wide enough for the cards to go into it! You could get some cute ribbon or fabric to decorate it up with!! I will look for other ideas and post some in a minute :)

I agree that the milk can would be over kill... IMO. For a tool box, go to a store and get a fishing tackle box that is plastic and that way you can paint it what ever color you want and take the trays out inside and cut a slit in it... or

What about taking a regular box and setting it down in a bail of hay with a slit at top... i know what i am thinking but hard to explain... maybe get a bail of hay keep it tied together and somehow cute the middle out and set a box down in and replace the top of the hay onto the box with a noticeable slit for cards??? its kinda countryish and you could have some pots of daisies or whatever flowers you use around it...

You know what...I looked and searched just about everything on google and I think that you have a great idea with the milk can!! That would be so unique and cheap since you already have one ;)

I like the hay idea, but it won't stay together if we were to cut the top off of it and try to keep the bale together.. it's a great idea though, specially if we got a box and glued hay to it to make it LOOK like a bale of hay.

The milk can will be my backup if I can't find something else... I wanted to use the two milk cans that I have for arrangements - one for either side of the arbor, then move them inside the barn. We will see.. but I love the idea - just thinkin it might be a little overkill. Hmmm.....

Well what about a saddle that has a saddle bag on it and you can do the saddle on maybe a gate or coral kinda thing like the cowboys do and if it has a saddle bag just have some cute saying on the saddle that could be decorated with flowers and have them slip in it a side bag on the saddle. The just have a family member every so often go by the saddle to empty it so no one takes a card....?

Or what about getting a horse (fake or real, rocking or not) and put a saddle bag on it like this...

OR!!!!

What about trying to find a pair of large cowboy boots... that are cheap of course and they can put the cards in there... and have a cute saying with it....

Or!!!

Get a 10 gallon foam cowboy hat... then get a round bond and sew the foam hat onto the edges of the box.. which you'll need a bigger needle and thicker thread to accomplish... sew the rim of the round box onto the rim or opening of the hat.. then slice a slot in the top or side of the hat and then people can stick in through....

a hat like this.. they say it comes in numerous colors...

http://www.7ware.com/Group/Group486/Catalog/17820.jpg
and then a round box like a hat box which Im sure you can get at a hobby shop.....

It comes in red, blue, yellow, orange and im sure you can remove the star and wrapping around it...

I'm on a mission to find a tire... one that's about 20" diameter and 15" wide.... Maybe a quad tire! I love the idea of using a tire under the cowboy hat, then just put a bottom in the tire, and attatch the hat to the top of the tire... Hmmm... My mind is goin now - Matt wants to use a cowboy hat for sure though, so I have to incorporate that somehow.

What about... using the cowboy hats over a pair of cowboy boots???? Somehow attaching the hat over the rim of a pair of cowboy boots, but making it look like the hat is slanted off...?

Something like this...

Well, Matt doesn't like the tire idea. He *kinda* likes the boot idea, but he's really digging the hat on the milk can idea. So far he's not swaying... he loves the idea of using the milk can with the hat secured on the top and cutting a slit in the top of the hat.

Hmmm....

BrideInCuffs21
03-13-2008, 03:02 PM
In my opinion a hat on the milk can would be an odd combo.... Hmmm.. what about a box covered in hay to look like a bale of hay with twin on it to look like its wrapped and then the hat on it and maybe a rope to look like a laso???

FFC

I talked to Matt about this at lunch - for some reason he's lovin the idea of the milk can with the hat on it... Wierd, cuz usually he says "whatever you want" when it comes to stuff like this. I'm almost to the "grrness" point on this, cuz you're right, it is an odd combo.

BrideInCuffs21

You could get a big box that is roughly the size of an ordinary bale of hay, then paint the box a yellow golden color, then use craft glue to put hay on it and then use twin to tie it up like an actual bale... cut a hole in the top of the box... then you could somehow sew or tack the hat to the bale, then put a pair of boots on it, and a laso and have the milk can next to it maybe???

I am in the same spot...when I ask charlie if he likes something he usually doesnt like it one way or the other so the things that he really gives me his opinion on I go with it. I think that it would look good with the hat on top of the milk can....have you tried to put it together to see what it looks like??

I feel ya. Um, no I haven't tried putting it together. I think I will do that tonight and take some pics. I have a hat - but it's MY hat - not one that I'd be willing to cut up LOL. But it'll give us an idea of what it'll look like. I still have to sand the milk can and re-paint or refinish it. But right now it's white, and the hat is black :) Works out pretty good...

Like putting the milk can in a box, hang the hat and lasso from it? Or hang the hat and lasso and burlap sack from the handle of the milk can... you're onto something :D

BrideInCuffs21

Maybe have the milk can decorated and then have a laso hanging from the handle and a pair of cowbooots next to the can and a hat hanging from it somehow... this way it will be more western then 'just' a milk can....

Hey! We're doing a cowboy hat for our cardbox. I got it from a used charity store for liek 5 bucks. We're cutting the top off and then setting it on top of an empty beer case (so the cards will fall in the beer box). We're cutting like stars and moons or something wester around the box (a bunch of like coin sized cut outs). I'm puting basting (the stuff you use for edging fabric) to make the whole nice and cleas. We're also putting some battery operated lights inside so you can see where the slit is and so they'll shine through the cut outs on the box. Haven't actually done it yet, but I'll post pics when I do (if I figure out the whole posting pics thing)

Here's what I threw together hecka fast tonight... just a hat and 2 pairs of boots. I'm thinking that I can put a sign up that indicates that it's for cards..... ? I have to put it on a crate or something next to the gift table cuz it's too low the way it is, and too tall to put on the gift table.

One's with the flash and the other is without..

To me it seems like it is missing something... maybe a laso or I would really love to see it with a bale of hay and maybe those daisies you planned on using.. I think it would tie it all together.. but I understand FH didnt like the hay idea.....

I agree.. and if we do this I will use a Lasso. Maybe even prop a saddle next to it. But I found today that I have a smaller milk can - one I forgot about. I'll post pics tonight. But it's about half the size of that one. It would work just the way it is - after a little paint :)

Here's another milk can I found layin around. This one is about half the height of the full size can, and I'm thinking I like it without the hat on it. I can either cover it with cloth or wrapping paper to set the patter I want on it, or I can leave it the way it is - but I don't think I'll leave it the way it is. It doesn't really go with my theme. I'm thinking I'll do this one with maybe children's boots next to it and a small hat and lasso...

What about using that smaller can and instead of the hat on it, have a pair of cowboy boots next to the can with the hat kinda hanging off the boots??? It just looks like a hat on a can, not a hat AND milk can....

I totally agree. I was thinkin of not even using the hat, maybe a pair of kids boots next to it with a little lasso. I like the look of the milk can just the way it is - but of course I'd have to paint it or cover it with something.

I finished it!!!

Matt cut the hole in the lid for me, but in doing so he also sliced the sides on accident, so I stuffed the sides with daisies and then wrapped the ribbon around the lip so that you couldn't see the daisies poking through. I also used hot glue to fill in the raw metal edges around the inner rim (daisies cuz those are what I"m using for my centerpieces anyway) :
