Here are some ideas ...
Ceremony Music
- Seating the guests * This is background music playing as the ushers seat your guests
before the processional starts, usually instrumental or soft love songs.
- Lighting of the alter candles * This is done at the opening of the ceremony, sometimes instrumental music. "Ava Maria", "The Lords Prayer", and "Amazing Grace" are popular
favorites for this spot especially if you are having a traditional church ceremony.
- Seating of the mothers * This is where the grandparents are seated and the mothers light the unity candle. "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "Because You Love Me" are popular songs for this spot.
- Processional/enter bridesmaids * This is for the bridesmaids and the flower girl to enter to, after all the guests and parents are seated and after the groom and minister enter (usually to silence). Classical music is usually played here. Pachelbel's "Cannon In D" is a traditional processional piece.
- Enter the bride * You know what this is! This calls for dramatic music that draws attention to the "main event" which is you! You can enter to the traditional bridal march, you know the old "here comes the bride" or there are a few more up-tempo versions to choose from. Or you can enter to most any song that fits the mood. But remember that you will have to walk down the aisle to this song so it should be long enough for you to make it and it should have a dramatic and romantic feel.
- Unity song * This is the part in the ceremony where you and your groom light the unity candle. This should be some sort of love song, maybe "your song" This is your moment to look into each others eyes and reflect on the promises you are making. "From This Moment" by Shania Twain is a popular one but, most any love ballad will work, you could even have a solo here.
- Recessional * This is the music that plays after it is all over, after you are announced as the new
Mr. & Mrs. as you are walking up the aisle together. This is a happy upbeat song. It can be a traditional classical song such as Beethoven's "Ode To Joy" or this can be a place for a little fun, maybe the old "Hallelujah Chorus" as if to say "Hallelujah, we finally did it"
Reception Music
- Background/Seating * This is background music playing as the guests are mingling before and after the couple enter the reception; this usually instrumental or soft love songs. “Dinner music”
- Cake cutting * Some people choose to play a song during the cake cutting and “sharing” … popular choices are: “When I'm 64” by The Beatles, and “How Sweet It Is …” by James Taylor or Marvin Gaye are good for the cutting part. Then for the sharing/feeding part, “Eat It” by Weird Al Yankovic, the “Mission Impossible” theme, or the “Jeopardy Theme” songs are fun.
- First Dance * This is your special dance with your new husband. This can be “your song” or any love song you like and you can slow dance to. Some couples take ballroom dance lessons and do sort of a performance here. Don’t forget to do the dip and kiss at the end … makes for a great picture ;-)
- Father/Daughter dance * This is where you dance with your father. One of the all time most popular songs for this spot is Bob Carlisle's “Butterfly Kisses”
- Mother/Son dance * This is a special dance for the groom and his mother. A popular song for this is “Wind beneath my wings” by Bette Midler or “Because you love me” by Celine Dion
- Party/dance/mood * After the spotlight dances, you might want to invite all the couples for one more slow song then pick up the pace a bit. You set the mood for your reception. If you want to dance and have fun, some popular party/group participation songs are “The Electric Slide” “YMCA”, “The Chicken Dance” and the “Conga Line” There are various versions of these songs out there. Ask your DJ for more ideas.
- Bouquet and Garter toss * Some popular and fun songs to play in these spots are: “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper for the bouquet toss and “The Stripper“ song for the garter removal and “Lets get ready to rumble“ for the toss and “Oh Yeah” by Yello, from the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Of” when the garter is put on the leg of the girl that caught the bouquet.
- Last dance * This can be a slow song or one a little more up tempo. How about this - “I've Had the Time Of My Life” from the movie Dirty Dancing
- Getaway * This is the song that plays in the background as you leave from the reception. * “Goodnight Sweetheart“ by The Spaniels is a pretty common song to be played here. You could also have a song that maybe talks about your honeymoon destination - “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys

I'm looking for both. I have read probably every list out there on the internet, I just can't make up my mind. I keep switching from traditional to non traditional. I'm concerned about what everyone else thinks and that is my problem I know I need to consider what me and FH want and like but I just can't.

I would only consider the opinion of others if they are paying (and then only "consider") ;) If it is a very formal event and/or in a church (some churches only allow certain music) then you might want to go with traditional, otherwise make it about you and FH :grinhappy:

I got some wedding CDs from the local library to help pick out some traditional music. How old-school is that?!? LOL.

You can always do a mix of both as well. We're doing very non-traditional songs for my processional and the recessional (they are from a video game), but the rest of the music will probably be pretty traditional.
