FH and I went to Dallas this weekend to see my brother...and to get my present from him....my Canon!!

I heart it. And I'm signing up for photography classes tomorrow (something I've been wanting to do for years now!)

I wonder how sick of me FH will be with this new toy? I followed him around all night tonight snapping pictures. :bblol: And I already made him take me to Best Buy so I could look at accessories. LOL

Cool! Hope you have fun with it :bun:

I was gonna teach a photography class once, but the class ended up cancelled cause not enough people signed up.

I would love to do something like that one day, but with grown ups or older kids :p I wonder if this is something you could do online

I haven't started the classes yet....the first one is this Thursday, though. I can't wait!!

I haven't really been playing with the camera too much, so no new pictures yet. I've been busy and it's been ugly outside here...but as soon as I can, I plan to venture around and test out the machine. :monkey:

I decided on the camera because 1) I desperately wanted a DSLR and 2) I'd been eyeballing Canons forever. I've always wanted the Canon D20, but it's simply way too much camera for me right now. I then started looking at the Rebel and chose the XTi because it has a higher MP (10.1mp) than the regular one and it's a semi-pro....a great camera but nothing TOO overwhelming...and doesn't have a thousand features that I'd never use.

However, there's plenty that I need to learn already. Hehe!

I'll keep ya updated on how the classes are going and what I learn. Maybe I can teach ya something. :bblol:

BTW, I was talking to my wedding photog the other day and I mentioned I got this camera. He seemed VERY excited about it...and said that, in the past, he made a LOT of money using his XTi. Nice endorsement!

Yep, we use the XTi as our "daily driver" for everyday stuff, and we bring one to every wedding. It's a nice little camera. :bblol:

Tango I don't know if this is the camera you have but I have been eyeing this baby for about 5 months....

My only concern is that it doesnt have image stabilization... I finally got my first credit card so I decided why the heck not get one of these babies and since you posted I have been researching and looking more and more into it... and well I am gonna get one!!! Just undecided on what... :(

You don't need image stabilization with a nice camera like the XTi. Usually, that's a feature on consumer cameras because there's a delay in the shutter, but DSLRs don't have that issue. Go for it, you will not be disappointed. They are super cheap these days.

Ok, I just got home from my first photography class!

Since it was a beginners class, I assumed the first couple of classes would be boring...like, "here is the lens...here is the ON button....here is the flash" type of stuff.

It wasn't boring at all, though; it was very interesting!

We were first forbidden to use the automatic feature EVER (which made most everyone groan because it's all we have done so far). :bblol: Then she taught us about shutter speed and apertures. We also learned how to meter, which was cool...and which I need to majorly practice.

It was great! I wasn't ready to leave at 1.5 hours....but there's always next time. (It's a 6-week course.)

It WAS a little scary...there was a woman in our class who called herself a "wedding photographer" and talked about some jobs she'd done. All I could think was "WHY ARE YOU IN A BEGINNER'S CLASS IF YOU CHARGE PEOPLE MONEY TO SHOOT THEIR WEDDINGS?!?!"

:purplex:

So anyway...I highly recommend taking a class. I've already learned tons more than I went in knowing.

Woot!

I put a 10.something MP camera on our registry. I don't expect to get it, but a girl can dream right?

Congrats on the new toy!!!! How exciting!

You have NO IDEA what kind of jokers are out there. It really is scary.
