I have been having headaches and dizzy spells off an on lately ... I went to the Dr today and they think I may have Migraines. They gave me some pills ('Maxalt', I think it was) and said if they help (which they did) that it is likely Migraines.

But I always thought Migraines were really bad headaches with light and noise sensitivity and such but mine are not that bad ... aside from the dizzy spells.

Anyway, the took some blood to run other tests to be sure to rule out other things. I am suppose to go back to my PCP next week.

Anyone else every had Migraines?

My step mom (the last one, #7, not this one) has them. She had terrible headaches and the sensitivity thing. Glad you're feeling better, though.

Migrains can very depending on the type of migrain. One of my friends used to get them and they would be so bad that all she could do is shut herself in her bedroom keeping the curtains closed to keep the room dark as light made it worse.

I occasionly get them, but all I get is squiggly lines in my vision and if I take panadol (asprin) straight away then I'll be fine. Sometimes if I don't take something then I may get a headache after the squiggly vision but its not horrendous - nothing bad enough that will stop me from doing whatever I'm doing.

The squiggly vision is horrible though cos it disorientates ya a bit.

Hope its nothing serious WebLady.

I have always suffered with migraines but i can go years in between having an attack, oddly enough i have had to go back to the Drs this week 'cos ive been having them very often the last few weeks. I dont get much of a headache with them, but i have disturbed vision, lose all feeling in one of my hands, my face goes numb, my speach slurs and i become disorientated. Although i take tablets as soon as i feel an attack start all else that can be done is to ride it out - usually in a quiet room, reading and the computer seems to aggravate them too. Hope you only get this one batch of attacks lady xxx

I get a migraine about once a week. They can vary in each person. For example I usually get severe pain on the left side of my head and neck with sensativity to light and smells. (sound doesn't bother me) I also get a lack of coordination and loss of strength. There is also the extreme exhaustion that follows where if the headache is a bad one I could sleep for a couple of days afterwards. My body temperature also drops, my nose gets dry, and sometimes I have trouble remembering things right after the attack as well.

My mother on the other hand gets a migraine about as often as I do. But she has the sensativity to sound as well as light and smells. She does't have the loss of strength and memory but gets very dizzy and loses coordination.

You won't find two people who's attacks are the same. There has been a lot of research in the last 10 years and they are finding out that migraines are really a lot more in depth than just a bad headache that goes away if you take a nap. It is actually a medical condition.

I get them occasionally. Before I had my daughter I could count on at least once a week. Since I've had her I may get them once every few months. I think someone up there knew I couldn't handle a baby and the headaches. Anyway, I have experienced vertigo with some but only a few times. Good luck I hope the meds keep doing the job, and good thought for the test results!

I have some major mirgrains. When i first started getting them i was about 13 and they hit me so hard i would pass out. Fortunetly i haven't done that lately. But if i wake up in the morning with one i usually am throwing up within 5 minutes. I get kinda nautious and a bit dizzy at times. Sound gets a little fuzzy, and extreme scents make it worse.
Smells like orange scented stuff, alot of cleaners, and sometimes onion makes it worse or triggers them.
Usually i try to lay down and have a nap. Sometimes it helps sometimes it only feels worse to wake up.

Wow, I didn't know the symptoms could vary so much. I was told there was no real clinical diagnosis, that if they had ruled out everything else then it would likely me migraines.

Most of the time I just get headaches that don't seem to go away. Most of the time I have a headache off an on all day ... yesterday was bad and I had too dizzy spells. Usually I can deal with them though. It wasn't until these last few weeks that the dizziness came into play. Smells don't really bother me, but cigarette smoke makes me sick more these days, I never really liked the smell but now it makes the headache worse or can give me one if I don't already have one and sometimes makes me nauseous. If the headache is bad, sound can bug me a little, but light doesn't seem to bother me.

Today was the first day I haven't woke up with a headache in some time ... maybe that is a good sign.

I used to get migranes when i was about 11 or 12...I haven;t gotten one in a very long time becaues I know what to watch for and talk meds RIGHT AWAY to avoid them! My vision gets screwed up, I can't read and see spots. (the letters actually move on the page!! freaky!! and they dissapear too!!) I am seriousily sensitive to light and need to lie in a pitch dark room with complete quiet!! And I get sick to my stomach!! (can you imagine going through all that at 11? I thought I was going to die!! lol) But they seem to run in the family! my dad gets 'em and my Grammy gets 'em real bad too! (and not to be disgusting) Usually once I throw up, the pressure is so relieved on my head I can almost function again! Like I said before, I am lucky that I know enough not mess around if I'm gettin a headache!! I take something right away so that it won't develop into a dibilatating migrane. (some of them used to last two and three days at a time back then!!!)

Brandi, its a good thing to get checked out for these things! I hope for the best for you!!

A friend of mine was having a lot of the same symptoms you are having and she was taking meds for migraines. Come to find out it was her glasses. She needed a different prescription. As soon as she got new glasses, everything went back to normal. She worked with a computer all day and didnt notice anything different with her vision. And her prescription only changed a tiny bit.

Wow, I couldn't imagine what that would be like so young ... glad you don't have problems with it anymore.

Yeah, I have heard of getting headaches and eye strain from working in front of the computer a lot. I don't wear glasses, but it has been years since I had my eyes checked ... I do get headaches from being in front of the computer sometimes but I get these symptoms even when I am not at the computer at all.

Im supposed to wear glasses to use the computer, for reading, and driving at night. My vision is fine, it the glare that bothers me. I dont wear them  but the only time I have any problems is when I drive at night.
