One of the great things about living in NYC is the cost of fresh flowers at just about every deli/bodega on every corner. I picked up 3doz roses ($12) and a few different other flowers (Lisianthus and Caspia) for about $20...I am ordering my flowers online and wanted an exact idea of what I would do for each bouquet so I knew how many to order, and also wanted to have an idea of how to work with the flowers, tape, wire, so I wasn't fumbling and learning the day before the wedding. I am SO thrilled with how easy it was and how beautiful the bouquets came out:
This is for the bridesmaids' and maids of honors' bouquets, I wanted them small; about 5 Vendela (pinkish cream) and 4 white roses, 4 Lisianthus stems and 3 sprigs of Caspia.

I also picked up about three different colors of light pink roses to get an idea of what shades I want to use in my bouquet, I decided the really pink ones were too pink. I'm going to use about this many and also have a few fillers (Lisiathus again and maybe Sweet Pea and/or Rannunculus)

K silly questions but if flowers are so cheap in NYC, why order them online?

LOL, that's not a silly question at all. I'll be living in MA at the time and am getting married on Cape Cod; I don't have any friends in NYC I trust enough to get the right flowers and the bodegas can't order them for you (mostly the don't even speak to you). But I am going to the flower district next week to talk to a nice supplier to see if they can order specific colors and have them all ready for someone here to pick up on the way to the Cape for the wedding, save us about $120 in shipping.

Beautiful... I actually love white bo-ks with barely anything else added to it.. and the bo-k of just roses with maybe some little added sprays here or there.. but simplicity can be complex....

they look great... what flower district are you going to? I may have to head out there during lunch one of these days... I don't want to do my bouquet myself, but i do want to get flowers for the centerpieces and do those myself... let me know where you are going for flowers out here... thanks. M

Hi, I just saw this!

For the wedding, I've been getting my supplies (candles, vases, floral tape/wire, Oasis) at B&J and Jamali, both are on the north side of 28th St between 6th and 7th. I am purchasing the roses and dendrobium orchids (10 stems for $7.50) from:

H.U.P.S. Flower Corp
(212) 807-7875
108 W 28th St,
New York, NY 10001

HUPS is also on 28th between 6th and 7th (closer to 6th, on South side of the street) and is only open until 2pm (they do open at like 4am though), and from what I have seen have the best prices along that stretch of 28th St. They did say that I could "place an order" with them to make sure they had what I wanted the two days before the wedding. This was when I was only going to get a specific color orchid from them though, not sure if they can/will do that for all flowers.

I have been getting my "practice" roses for $8 for 24 at several different bodegas on the UWS (around 96th and Columbus) - all the bodegas have great prices on flowers, IMO, but the UES and UWS seem to have the best deals.

You're awesome!! Thanks so much.. I'm in Chelsea, 8th and 17th, so the walk to 28th is nothing... i'll probably check them out soon or wait it out, not sure yet... the wedding is not until 2009 august... :)
