Glad you liked them :D My DH took most of the pics, he took like 200, I thought these were the better ones.

Funny, when we were taking the pics of us, several people offered to take pictures for us but we have this little thing where we always take pics of us like this everywhere we go ... I like it 'cause you can't see my fat ;) I wish my hair looked better in the pic though.

I am soooooooooooooo jealous. I would LOVE to see an Orca!!!!

Yeah, Whales and Dolphins have always fascinated me ... when I was little I wanted to be a trainer at Sea World.

DH and I were talking about how the larger Orca had a bend dorsal fin and we wondered why. I figured it has something to do with age, well I looked it up and I was partly right. Here is what I found ...

Dorsal fins are supported by cartilage just like your nose. When a male resident killer whale goes through his "growth spurt" at around the early teenage years, the dorsal fin grows really tall, really fast.

Why is the fin bent? Well, as the fin gets tall it also gets heavy. A whale with a straight dorsal fin has spent lots of time in deep water, where the water pressure keeps the fin upright until the cartilage hardens.

Resident Killer Whales that went through their growth spurt in captivity have a bent fin because the pools aren't deep enough to create the water pressure needed to support the soft cartilage in the fin so the fin's own weight makes it flop over. Once the cartilage hardens, the fin is shaped forever.

Important Note: This phenomenon is not restricted to captive whales, it has been spotted in wild resident populations as well. The theory is that these whales were spending lots of time in shallow bays and shallow feeding grounds during their growth spurt.

Shallow water = low pressure.
low pressure + soft, heavy cartilage = bent dorsal fin

I thought this was sort of interesting and wanted to share ;)

We went to the west coast of canada (Victoria BC to be exact) and we went whale watching!! It was the most wonderful feeling that I can't even explain!! It was like truley being one with the whales...like I said I can't explain it but it was awesome! Dang hard to get a good picture though!! Most cameras do not have a quick enough shutter speed and with digital its even worse!! lol...I think we got a few tips of dorsal fins but not much more! I would highly recommend whale watching to anyone who does not get sea sick!! lol...Best wishes all!!

I went deep sea fishing a couple of time with my ex-husband, I hated the fishing part, but we saw some dolphins which at the time was the first time I ever saw one up close, we got some cool pictures.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keiko_%28orca%29 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keiko_%28orca%29)

He died suddenly on December 12 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_12), 2003 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003), of pneumonia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumonia). He was 27 years of age, very old for a captive whale, but young for a wild one. Following requests from fans of the whale and its films, the Oregon Coast Aquarium held a memorial service for him on February 20th, 2004. 700 people attended the service at which the aquarium's veterinary chaplain said "Keiko was not one of our kind, but nonetheless was still one of us."

That is sooo nice about having the memorial service for him and what was said about him.

4) is that good or bad? Well, I am a web designer and a lady so that is where I got 'WebLady' I have also used 'Flutterby' and 'PaintedButterfly' I can be conservative when I need to be *wink*

Me too!! Undil I saw a picture of Brandi, I NEVER thought she was that kind of girl!!

Yeah, I thought about it after I posted the link and wondered if you all would think different of me ... maybe I should have just posted single pics. I guess I am an odd person so to speak, there are many sides of me ... so now that you all (snoops ;)) know more about the 'real' me, I hope you still luv me :D

CarlosHoney

Yeah, I get that alot ... not many people know the 'real' me, and most that do don't understand me ... I am a cool chick ;)

I have to be real serious and conservative at work and a lot of people only see that side of me, but then I go home kick off my heels and skirt, slip on a pair of sweats and fuzzy pink slippers, grab a beer and be anything BUT serious!!! I will see someone that has only seen my "work" personality and they are shocked.

WebLady
02-24-2006, 11:12 AM
Yeah most people that know me from 'work' or high school would be shocked to see the real me today. I hide it pretty well  Many people that get to know me have said that they would have never imagined that I would have tattoos. I use to take out the piercings for work, I don't bother anymore ... they are not that bad anyway, just a small nostril stud and my tongue, well and my 8 gage earrings. Most people don't say much about that though.

My sister loves to mess with me saying "You're too old for that kind of thing" I say who's rule says you have to be a certain age? No, I don't ask like some rebellious teen, but I like alot of the same things some of them do  ;) I get along better with my 20 yr old brother than anyone else in the family because we like the same music and he is also into tattoos and piercings.

What really bothers me is the conservative 'Christians' say I am a 'bad' person just because I have tattoos and piercings and like rock/metal music. I have had some people try to be my friend and then get to know 'me' and then not want to be my friend anymore ... It makes me almost hate to call myself a 'Christian' sometimes ... but that is another story all together ;) I love and accept everyone, even it they don't agree with me, as long as they treat me right ... I just wish others could do the same. I am gonna stop now ... If anyone cares, there is more about my views on this kind of thing on the website were the pictures are.

For me it's a good thing. I value people more for their uniqueness. Personal experience has taught me that the value of a person in in them not on them! LOL.
