View Full Version : Napkin Holders - layout ideas
Alright, so I got these hand towels for my napkins. I don't like linen napkins, cuz they tend to smear instead of absorb. So mom and I found these at an awsome deal at Kohls. So we bought them, and now that they're not the actual linen napkins, I'm thinking about doing some sort of napkin holder for them. Here are what I have, they're 12x12 square
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/napkins.jpg
I wanted to fold them in thirds and drape them over the side of the table where each plate would go if it weren't a buffet. But now that they're more of a towel material, I think I need to enhance them a lil bit.
Any folding/decor/additional ideas for these? I don't want to fold them all fancy, but I'm open to ideas!
TIA!
So far we have some ideas as to using ribbon and an etched cardstock tag on them. I like the idea of using rings with "diamonds" on them, but those are costly... Just trying to explore the possibilities :)

I found this picture that is cute too:http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/791/547024.JPG
Sarah I love that idea, using just plain party garland (I forget exactly what it's called). I can tell it's going to be hard for me to decide on this one :D :D

My theme is trucks/rocks/tools.... and somehow countrifying it without being too redneck
I love the snap bracelet idea, but they don't have any solids or patterns that jump out at me. I will do some shopping around and see if I can find other patterns.
Still open to ideas!
OH, I love the idea of friendship bracelets - kinda symbolic I would think.. but finding all in the right color would prolly be tuff.

I can't remember if you are using any red in your decorating, but they are mixed red and blue bandana print. Perfect for the barn theme you have going!
Thanks! Yes I did see those, and they're tempting, but I'm trying to keep blue as an accent color, and my blue is a lot lighter blue than that. But those are an option I can run by Matt and see what he says :)

You could also spray paint the bracelets to match you color. Just a thought :)

Maybe you can get some bandanas(SP??) and cut them in strips and tie the napkin with that...

Great idea.. I wonder if there's such thing as like a latex paint? Like once it dries - it stretches? Normal spray paint would crack. But if there is a latex paint I'm sure it would work.
Also the bandana strips is a good idea!
Oh, I can also use strips of my centerpiece material that way they're the same color... hmmm....

Ooooh - you could cover the slap bracelets with your centerpiece fabric - you wouldn't even need to sew, just use the iron on adhesive stuff (I can't remember what it's called)

Okay, maybe this is redneck, but if you're doing a trucks/rocks/tools theme, what about hose clamps?
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/parts/tweekerparts/clamp-hd-std.jpg
Like I said, maybe redneck but I think it would be cute! You can get them in blue too.

That would fit her theme great :)
Oh man!!!! Matt's asleep already and I SOOO want to wake his butt up so that I can show those to him!!! I LOVE that idea! You're right, a bit redneck, but it'd go hand in hand with the favor tool keyrings :)
I'll letchya'll know what he thinks tomorrow - if I wake him up I'll end up out with the dogs tonite :D

How about rope? That is kind of country like as in lassos ....
Rope is another great idea... even like a black soft rope would be cool...

The hose clamps are awesome!!! You can always put them to use afterwards! LOL!

Heck yeah I can, you can never have too many hose clamps! LOL. Matt loves the idea, but I'm kinda iffy about it. I'm going to talk to my BM's about it and see what they say. It's so us, but I really really don't want people coming to our wedding and saying "Oh that's so redneck". Somehow I want it to be country/redneck but still simply elegant in a way.

Justina, I think you're right. The hose clamps might look really cool as an unexpected contrast against something more formal, like a crisply ironed linen napkin.
Since your napkins are a little more casual and fuzzy, something a little sleeker is probably in order.

You are so resourceful! I love this idea!!! And I used to LOOOOVE slap bracelets!!
We might be going with a twisted cord - kinda like an elegant rope. I figure that would go real great with the milk cans and the barn. If I wanted to go REALLY hick I could use zip ties

I like the idea of something simple like a ribbon with maybe a little dangly thing on the end. For example the little pieces that say "thank you" or "our wedding" or you could do something time consuming and FUN and cheap :)
Get ribbon, add those big chunky beads (can buy a bag of assorted or clear for about 5.99 and their are alot. Put two or three beads on each side of the ribbon and tie the name tag to it. geez hopfully i can find a picture :)

The hose rings are so innovative--maybe they could be dressed up with a glued on flower??? or a tied on tag with your monogram?
It's a thought.... But since I'm trying to DIY so much other stuff, I might just keep em simple and do the cord. I actually got a couple feet of black cord. Hopefully tomorrow I can take some pics of it!
Alright, so I *think* I'm going to go with NO holder at all! I played with a bunch of the ideas here, and the "napkin" doesn't look right rolled or folded up.
Here are some of the ideas I used that came up in this thread (I don't have any slap bracelets so I didn't get to try that one).
Hose Clamp:

Rope (black wouldn't do for sure)
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/WeddStuff1012.jpg
Ribbon: (this one's okay)
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/WeddStuff1011.jpg
Also, the final pieces of my favors came in today, so I was able to set a place setting up, and I just love the way this turned out! Nothin holding the napkin but the favor itself.

I think you are right about not using anything to tie the napkins. The favors on them look great without anything else! Your place setting is perfect!
Thanks!! OMG this is crazy it's all comin together! Today I got my favors, my centerpieces (for the most part) and my place settings figured out! Time to update my journal :D :D :D
